DiCaprio Says 'Titanic' Sunk Him

Leonardo DiCaprio says he now regrets accepting the role in Titanic that brought him fame and notoriety. In an interview that will appear in the December issue of Vanity Fair, DiCaprio says that he wishes that he had instead accepted the role of a porn star in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights that eventually went to Mark Wahlberg. He said that the public attention that accompanied his success wrecked his ability to land offbeat roles. "It's a really obvious thing to say, but the more people know too much about who you really are, and it's a fundamental thing, the more the mystery is taken away from the artist, and the harder it is for people to believe that person in a particular role," DiCaprio remarks in the magazine interview.

Ever think that some people might care about enjoying their careers more than the money they get? If I were Leo I would regret Titanic too, because after that there was nowhere for him to go for YEARS until finally came Gangs of New York and Catch Me if You Can.

Yes, because money equates happiness.

I, for one, think Leo is an underrated actor and that he probably deserves a lot better than he receives from the movie community.

All those movies proved is that a fantastic director (Speilberg with Catch Me If You Can, Scorsese with Gangs of New York) can cover up an actor's flaws.

Name those flaws.

Okay, how about the fact that he can deliver dialogue in two moods: cornball romantic, and slightly more solemn cornball romantic? Or maybe the fact that he has next to no screen presence?

I disagree. He wasn't doing cornball romantic at all in Catch Me if You Can, and he had screen prescence in Catch Me if You Can. Spielberg wasn't protecting DiCaprio or covering up for him at all; in maybe one or two scenes Leo did anything cornball romantic.

If you think Dicaprio only has two moods to deliver a dialogue in, go watch The Basketball Diaries. He was fucking class in that movie. Although, only watch that movie if youre feeling a little too good about yourself, cus it will drag you down like nothing else.

That movie is excellent. It's a true story about his character Jim Caroll. As far as I know, the real Jim Carrol is still alive and still writes. I think I've even heard he used to sell heroin with Dee Dee Ramone.
