Much like the United States Presidential Election, the I-3 Championship will be decided by an electoral vote with the first man reaching 270 votes leaving as champion. Here's how it will work.
With the U.S. Electoral College, each state has a set amount of electors based on population. In the I-3 Championship Electorate, we have compiled the total votes each of these former champions and challengers has accumulated over the past year (starting with April Duels 2016) in all 'championship matches' (primaries were not included.) Then we took the average of that total and rounded to the nearest whole number to give each participant a set amount of electors. Each popular vote a person receives in this poll then translates to that set amount of electoral votes. So if someone has (20) next to their name, they would receive 20 electoral votes for each popular vote they receive.
Umaga has appeared in the most polls, 4, so his total votes were divided by 4 to give his average. William Regal appeared in 3 polls, so his total votes were divided by 3. Current Champion Low Ki, Sean Morley, Ultimo Dragon, Santino Marella & John Bradshaw Layfield only appeared in one poll each, so thus their total electors would be the same as their number of popular votes in the corresponding polls, as follows:
Low Ki (23 in December): 23 electoral votes
William Regal (13 in December, 20 in October, 18 in August; Total=51/Average=17): 17 elecoral votes
Umaga (11 in October, 14 in August, 30 in June, 21 in April, Total=76/Average=19): 19 electoral votes
Sean Morley (10 in August) :10 electoral votes
Ultimo Dragon (5 in August) :5 electoral votes
Santino Marella (17 in June) :17 electoral votes
John Bradshaw Layfield (20 in April) :20 electoral votes
So despite only appearing in one poll each, Low Ki & John Bradshaw Layfield come away with the highest number of electors, while Umaga who appeared in 4 polls comes away with 19 electoral votes. William Regal meanwhile has the same amount of electors as Santino Marella, 17, even though Regal appeared in more polls. Multiple time champions Sean Morley and Ultimo Dragon meanwhile come in with the least amount of electors and will need the most popular votes to win.
Regal, Dragon, and Morley, the 3 men who have held the belt the most times fittingly, are the only 3 men who have appeared in all 4 I-3 Championship Electorate matches. Umaga became the first man to capture the title in the I-3 Electorate last year, the first time the belt changed hands at Fight Fest in 5 years after changing hands at all of the first 3 Fight Fests. Low Ki lost the title to Dragon at the inaugural Fight Fest and went 7 years and 10 months before holding the belt again. With 7 men competing this year, this is the least amount of men who have competed in the I-3 Championship Electorate, while at the same time the most countries are represented, as Low Ki & JBL both represent the United States, while Umaga represents Samoa, Regal represents England, Morley represents Canada, Dragon represents Japan and Marella represents Italy. JBL is the only man in this year's poll who has not held the I-3 Championship in the past, while Low Ki is on his second reign, Regal and Morley have each held the belt 4 times, Dragon 3 times, Marella and Umaga 1 each.
Low Ki would only need 12 popular votes to surpass 270 and retain the title 8 years after losing it the first time. Layfield meanwhile would need just 14 popular votes to give him enough electoral votes. Umaga would need 15 popular votes to win his second I-3 Title Electorate in a row. Regal and Marella both would require 16 electoral votes to reach 270 and claim their 5th or 2nd reign respectively. Morley needs 27 popular votes to reach 270 and become a 5-time champion, while Ultimo Dragon has the steepest hill to climb, as in order for him to become a 4-time champion and tie Regal & Morley's record, he needs to garner an astounding 54 popular votes. Each man has a 14.29% chance of winning this match, with an 85.71% chance of a new champion being crowned. Will the I-3 Championship change hands for the second year in a row and the 5th time overall or will it be retained for the 5th time at Fight Fest?
So think things through and make your choice(s) on who will leave 'Fabulous February Fight Fest FIX' as I-3 Champion.
Vote now!
