(Un)Official Metal Thread

Face it. There's not enough love for metal on here >_>

I barely see the genre as a whole mentioned, and that must change <_<

So, to start it off, what are your three favorite metal bands?

1. Metallica/Iron Maiden

2. Nevermore

3. Dream Theater

I'm guessing this topic is just going to compress all genres of metal into a large super genre called "metal", which works for me. So...

1. Nine Inch Nails

2. Type O Negative

3. Danzig

I've always been into NIN, and to a lesser extent TON, but I've just recently been able to discover Danzig, due in part to my finding out how to play my iPod in my car.

Dude, have you ever posted here? ¬_¬

Like, every other thread is a metal thread. And if it isn't, it turns into one very quickly.

#1: Tobias Sammet Related Projects (if I didn't group them all together, there'd be no point in a top three ¬_¬)

#2: Rhapsody Of Fire

#2: Finntroll

#3 changes from time to time, depending on who's my current flavour of the month ¬_¬ It's usually Hammerfall, but I've been in a Bloodstocky mood recently.

Danzig is indeed awesome, if you can get past his immense ego. Outside of that, though, his music is solid, to me atleast. I can't say I dig the music he releases under Glenn Danzig, but everything else I regularly jam to. Except for Danzig era Misfits, seeing as how I despise that era for some odd reason.

Meh, the Misfits era sucks. I don't like the Misfits at all, and although I haven't heard much of Danzig, I can see that that band is great (unless they only have a few good songs <_<)

Is anyone here into Elvenking, or Tyr, or other folk metal? I just started to get into them, and I'm really liking this genre.

Anyone heard any of the new Dream Theater? I was kind of worried after I heard that it was going to be the 'heaviest' album they've put out (I'm not overly fond of the heavier Dream Theater stuff, well I am, but I prefer the "Metropolis Pt 2" kind of stuff), but the two songs I've heard have both been pretty good. So I'm pretty psyched.

Anyway, best metal bands (I'm FAR from a metal buff, if I were to be honest);

1. Dream Theater

2. Opeth

3. erm...something else, probably "In Flames"

I'm gonna take a slightly less traditional definition of metal and say:

1) System Of a Down

2) Rage Against the Machine

3) Metallica

Certainly my tops in terms of most listened to. And the least edgy list ever. Still, one must be honest. :P

1. The Mentors - These guys were fantastic. The lyrics are a bit of a novelty, but are still cleverly written, and funny. They were all accomplished musicians, making the whole package great to listen to. Their music is sort of reminiscent of a heavier sounding Black Sabbath.

2. Toxic Holocaust - In the studio, this band is actually a one man operation. I don't know the guys name, but he does a great job, and is also an accomplished musician. Considering the skill of which he plays guitar, drums, and bass says something about his general musical prowess. On top of that, he is playing some of the best thrash that has ever existed. Hell it is the best thrash that has ever existed.

3. Motorhead- I don't think I need to explain much about Motorhead. They simply came out and kicked fucking ass, playing rock the way it should be. It's rough, it's nasty, it's loud, and it's fucking great every step of the way.

On top of those three groups I've also been playing a lot of Bludwulf, Bolt Thrower, Sodom, Celtic Frost, Aggression, and Destroyer 666 as of late.

Man, this thread might get me flamed. It's hard to list the metal bands I like in order, but if I had to, it'd look something like this:

1. Marilyn Manson

2. Motley Crue

3. Guns N Roses

Slayer is overrated IMO.

I just never thought they were that great, besides Kerry King. I've tried hard to get into them, but it just doesn't work.

Side note, Raining Blood has the best metal riff ever.

Uhhh Dave Lombardo? It's not King that makes Slayer for me it's Lombardo. Listen to his work in Fantomas for other examples of how immense he is.
