WWF presents... WCW?

Recommended Posts

"And the name on the contract does say McMahon!

However, the contract reads...

Shane McMahon!"

The words echoed through Panama Beach and the wrestling business like nothing before it. Most of us already knew that Vince had purchased WCW but only Vince himself knew of the fate of his former competition. Vince had two choices that had equal backing. He could run a straight-up WWF vs. WCW "Invasion" angle that would see the watered down version of WCW go up against and be crushed by the WWF juggernaut or on the other hand he would reap the profits of the past success of WCW and tapped into it's loyal fanbase and run it as a seperate entity and milk it dry. Both options had there advantages and disadvantages. Vince naturally had reservations as it was a huge gamble to run a second brand especially under the name of "World Championship Wrestling". Unlike Vince's past side projects he knew that the fan base was there for WCW. And he was safe in the knowledge that if the ratings were flagging he could easily pull the plug.

After Vince negotiated a friday night time slot on TNN for Nitro the question on everyones lips was "Who would run the new WCW?" The choice was easy. It would be another McMahon. Shane McMahon. The prospect of running a company alongside the WWF empire as an extended brand provided an excellent opportunity for Shane to cut his teeth in the business and serve his apprenticeship in preparation to one day take over the reigns of the WWF juggernaut once his father is ready to hand them over. Shane would be working on a shoestring and it would be up to him to generate interest and above all else revenue to make World Championship Wrestling mark 2 a success. There would be no way of reprising the likes of Goldberg and Scott Steiner as they would command huge salaries he had to do with what he could afford and pin the hopes of the company on new stars. Shane didn't have the luxury that Bischoff did when he was handed control of WCW of opening up a blank Turner-endorsed cheque book and handpicking the stars he wanted. Shane had the task of picking through the detritus of the defunct ECW and renewing the contracts of second and third rate WCW wrestlers.

With WrestleMania X-Seven out the way, Vince leant the way of WCW to give Shane a helping hand in getting started. A host of WCW talent were featured at WrestleMania sitting in the sky box while their new boss took on the evil Mr. McMahon. Shane was able to pick up the victory when WCW Champion Booker T interfered in the match nailing Vince with his patented scissor kick. But this isn't the story of the WWF. This is the story of WCW like you've never seen it before. Ladies and gentlemen... WCW-Lite, if you will.

"Shane's First Nitro"

After the new WCW Nitro video package ends piecing together past footage from the likes of Booker T, Shane McMahon, Jeff Jarrett, Diamond Dallas Page Lance Storm and Rey Misterio's respective careers ends we're taken straight to the announce table at ringside where the team of
Scott Hudson
and
Arn Anderson
welcome us to the "new" WCW and promise a historic night of wrestling that includes some huge matches. Matches that will see the team of Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defending the World Tag Team Titles against Billy Kidman and Rey Misterio. Not to mention "Sugar" Shane Helms defending the Cruiserweight title against Lash LeRoux and Lance Storm taking on Hugh Morrus as well as "much, much more".

As soon as Hudson and Double A are through taking us through tonights plan of action "Here Comes The Money" starts off the nights proceedings as the new WCW Chairman
Shane McMahon
bounds out onto the top of the new minimalistic WCW entrance ramp. Shane is wearing a leather jacket that is open to reveal a T-Shirt underneath baring the WCW logo. He laps up the approval and makes his way to ringside up the steel steps into the ring. His music fades out and he is left with chants of "Shane-O-Mac!". As the chants fade out Shane begins to address the crowd starting with "What's up WCW?" before reminding the fans that WCW is entering a new era and that he will personally foresee that the wrongs of the past will never be repeated again on his watch and WCW will provide new opportunities for both new
and
old this time around. He then goes on to introduce the man that will lead WCW into the future as its champion and embody the very spirit of the company... Booker T.

Booker T
's classic entrance music plays setting off huge flame pyros either side of the ramp. He eventually reveals himself from underneath the smoke with the WCW World Heavyweight title around his waist and the U.S Title over his shoulder wearing smart-casual clothing and sporting a short haircut. The Bookerman looks intense and focused as he makes his way into the ring. Shane and Booker shake hands and the WCW Chairman leaves the ring. Booker straight away begins to rip into the old WCW regime as he gets on the mic and tells tales of how he had to sit and watch as the likes of Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash ran riot holding him and everybody else who worked their asses off down. He then stressed how he stayed loyal to WCW even in it's darkest days and always did his best for the fans even when he knew what he was told to do was bullshit. He referes back to what Shane said about him being the very spirit of the company...

Until "SELF HIGH FIVE!" sends the fans across the arena into a frenzy.
Diamond Dallas Page
staggers out onto the top of the ramp throwing up the diamond with his hands and bringing it down with a huge BANG! DDP has a microphone in hand and calls for the music to be cut. DDP tells the audience of his respect for Booker T and how he remained loyal all those years and gives him credit for being a five time World Champion but asks the question of where "The Bookerman" was when he was single handily taking apart the poison that was the New World Order. He reminds him that he was too busy fighting for television titles while he was mixing it with "the big boys". Dallas Page then challenges Booker T for his World title tonight and Booker T accepts much to the fans delight. Both men exchange looks as the sequence ends as Nitro cuts to a quick commercial break

MIKE AWESOME vs. ELIX SKIPPER

As Mike Awesome made his way down the ramp it was clear that he couldn't be any further away from his "Fat Chick Thriller" gimmick as he walked with the same swagger that harked back to his ECW days. Both men went through the motions of exchanging elbow tie-ups with Awesome gaining the obvious advantage. Skipper resorted to stomping down at the knee of Awesome and hitting the ring ropes and connecting with a spinning heel kick taking the big man down. Skipper tried to keep the pressure on Awesome but his strength was too much for "Prime Time" as began to reel off his power moves stringing together a Overhead Belly-To-Belly Suplex and a big release German Suplex.

As Skipper recovered from the huge suplex he pointed two thumbs toward himself and shouted "Awesome bomb, baby!". He dragged Skipper in and hoisted him up only for Skipper to reverse with a Hurricanrana! Skipper went for the pin but only got a two count. Skipper awaited Awesome to get up and prepared to hit him with his patented Play Of The Day. Awesome countered and planted his big boot into the gut of Skipper and delivered the Awesome Bomb! Awesome casually pinned Skipper and picked up an impressive victory.

Shane McMahon is seen backstage shaking hands with Hugh Morrus and Lash LeRoux before turning away down the hall. As he turns he bumps into none other than
Chris Kanyon
who looks like he's been sleeping rough for the past few months. Shane steps away from Kanyon in disgust while hiding a laugh. Shane asks Kanyon what he can do for him and Kanyon immediately begins pleading for him to give him a job in the new WCW seeing as he wasn't assigned to the deal that Shane brokered when he bought out what remained of WCW. Shane is unsure at first until he has an idea. He promises Kanyon the prospect of authority as his face lights up, but Kanyon's enthusiasm ends as soon as Shane pulls out a mop and a bucket and gives him the role of WCW's new janitor. Kanyon becomes furious with McMahon until Shane tells him to relax and that he's joking. Shane reinstates him to the WCW roster under the condition that he is willing to "seize the day" in WCW rather than be the lackey that he was to DDP in WCW's past incarnation. Shane departs leaving Kanyon to ponder his future.

WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

SHANE HELMS vs LASH LeROUX

Shane Helms looked to carry on his arrogant "boy band" gimmick without the likes of Shannon Moore and Evan Karagis as he made his way to the ring. LeRoux and Helms bought different "games" to the match as LeRoux adapted the high flying style while Helms tried his best to ground "The Ragin' Cajun". After using a Head scissors maneuver to propel Helms into the turnbuckle LeRoux began to gain momentum. As Helms staggered towards LaRoux he teed off on Helms with jabs, dropped to do the splits and took him down with a spinning clothesline! LaRoux urged Helms to get up as he prepared to finish this one and gain an upset victory using the Whiplash. He elevated Helms up into the DVD position but Helms resorted to putting his thumb in LaRoux's eye! As LeRoux staggered Helms connected with the Sugarsmack Super kick removing all Lash's momentum. After a moment to regroup Helms covered Lash getting a two and a half!

Both men got up to their feet and resumed the combat. LeRoux attempted to Irish whip Helms but Helms reversed and hit the swinging side slam back breaker! Helms covered again but once again got a two count. Helms complained to the referee as he began to wonder what he had to do to put LeRoux away. LaRoux span Helms around as he complained but Helms was quick to react as he fell to a knee and low blowed him! This gave him the opportunity to hit the Nightmare On Helms Street and finally get the three count! Helms quickly rolled out and snatched his belt from the timekeeper leaving the ring in a hurry.

We return from the commercial break hearing loud cheers echo through the arena as "Mean"
Gene Okerlund
stands in the middle of the ring holding a microphone. He briefly goes over how great it is that WCW is back and how he grateful he is that he can be apart of it. He then announces that his guest is going to be none other than "The Stuff"
Buff Bagwell
as the fans boo as soon as they hear his familiar music blaring from the sound system. Bagwell arrogantly struts down the ramp wearing his trademark over sized top hat and gets into the ring joining Okerlund. Okerlund asks him of his plans for the future now WCW is back and he answers by saying that he's going to do what he never managed to do in the old era and that's win the WCW World Heavyweight title. He then claimed to be the most "charismatic man" to never win a World title which cued some unfamiliar-at-first music. A reworking of "Walk" by Pantera. The fans began to go wild as they started to recognize the music and none of than "Mr. Pay-Per-View"
Rob Van Dam
appeared at the top of the ramp with a huge grin on his face. RVD made his way down the ramp wearing cut off jeans and an "EC-F'N-W" T-shirt as Bagwell looked on furiously. Van Dam hopped up onto the apron and began pointing inwards with his thumbs giving both Bagwell and the fans the "Rob... Van... Dam" treatment.

Okerlund turned his attention toward Van Dam as Bagwell stood aside unimpressed. He announced that he's here for the new opportunities that WCW can offer and when Bagwell claimed to be the most "charismatic man" to never win a World title he couldn't sit back and listen no longer. Van Dam claimed that title for himself before Bagwell interrupted by saying that while he himself was mixing with the likes of Goldberg, Hogan, Flair and Nash on a regular basis Van Dam was cutting his teeth in "Extremely Crappy Wrestling". Van Dam laughed off Bagwell's statement then quipped that he would rather wrestle in Crappy Wrestling than "Wheel Chair Wrestling" which infuriated Bagwell to the point of him throwing a hard right hand in RVD's face! Both men exchanged blows and RVD got the upper hand of the seasoned Bagwell and took him down with a spinning wheel kick! Van Dam then ran to the turnbuckle and jumped to the top right with cat-like agility. Van Dam taunted once again and came crashing down with a huge Five Star Frog Splash! RVD, out of breath, picked up the microphone and challenged Bagwell to a match next week on Nitro!

LANCE STORM vs HUGH MORRUS

Before the match Lance Storm subjected the fans to a rendition of the Canadian National Anthem which cemented his heel status once again. Hugh Morrus took it straight to Storm with hard rights and lefts keeping away from a technical battle. Hugh Morrus began to take control until he attempted to Powerbomb Storm, Storm grabbed the leg of Morrus and roll through locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf! Morrus roared out in pain as he was eventually able to grab the bottom rope and break the hold. Morrus limped up and Storm continued working on the weaked limb of Morrus. Morrus eventually recovered and hit a running DDT which got the crowd on their feet as he climbed to the top rope ready to end the match with his No Laughing Matter Moonsault! Storm got up to a knee and purposely fell against the ropes leaving Morrus to drop crotch first into the turnbuckle. Storm drop kicked Morrus off the turnbuckle as he fell awkwardly back into the ring. Storm then polished Morrus off with a superkick nearly putting his boot through Morrus' face as he hooked the leg and picked up an impressive victory.

As the match ended were taken straight to the parking lot where a white limo pulls up. The camera teases for a moment before the door swings open. A boot steps out the door and the camera pans upwards revealing the man to no other than "The Chosen One"
Jeff Jarrett
. The fans boo as they more than likely assumed that Jarrett wouldn't be apart of the "new" WCW. Jarrett adjusted his shades and reached into the limo pulling out an acoustic guitar. Jarrett grinned and walked into the arena leaving Hudson and Double A to speculate on his involvement in the company and his intentions for tonight. The scene then cut to the commercial break which involved ordering information for the upcoming WCW pay-per-view

Gene Okerlund is back on our screens again this time backstage with the team of
Rey Misterio
and
Billy Kidman
who are preparing to take on the team of Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo for the WCW World Tag Team titles. WCW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

SEAN O'HAIRE & CHUCK PALUMBO vs BILLY KIDMAN & REY MISTERIO

The fans were right behind the team of Kidman and Misterio from the get-go as they went in search of the tag team titles. Kidman and Palumbo started out. Palumbo gained the advantage using his size and strength over the relatively small Billy Kidman. He hammered down on Kidmans back with his forearm and leveled him off with a big boot before tagging in the ultra-focused Sean O'Haire. O'Haire picked up where his partner left off and stomped down on Kidman. O'Haire set Kidman up and attempted to take him out with a Roundhouse kick but Kidman was able to avoid it and hit a springboard bulldog. Kidman immediatly tagged in Misterio who ran into the ring and took Palumbo down with a springboard dropkick. Misterio grabbed O'Haire by his hair and pulled him up only getting a huge elbow to the gut in the process. O'Haire took Rey Rey down with the Roundhouse kick that was intended for Kidman earlier on and tagged in Palumbo once again.

The tags exchanged back and forth with no team gaining any real advantage. With O'Haire and Rey the legal men in the ring, Kidman and Palumbo battled on the outside of the ring near the announce desk. After Kidman downed Palumbo, he fell into the timekeeper and when he resurfaced he had the Tag title belt in his hand and cracked the skull of Kidman taking him out the game! As the referee concentrated on the belt shot this allowed KRONIK the perfect opportunity to make their presence felt as they ran down to the ramp way and got into the ring laying both Rey Misterio and O'Haire out with two devastating High Times! Kronik then left the ring with the damage done. Both O'Haire and Misterio were laid out but O'Haire recovered quickest and covered Misterio gaining the victory! Palumbo rolled back into the ring leaning against the ropes staring up the ramp at Kronik as they celebrated the damage they had caused.

WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

BOOKER T vs DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE

Both men gained positive ovations from the fans as they were billed as "WCW loyalists" by the commentary team. The match started out in a respectable fashion as they began with a tie up. DDP overpowered Booker T and bought him down into a headlock. Booker T reversed using an elbow to the gut and whipping him into the ropes. Booker T took a side on stance as he prepared to level him with a kick but DDP saw it coming a mile off, ducked, and hit a clothesline. DDP stomped on Booker T as the gentlemanly conduct of the start of the match seemed to have been thrown out the window. Page dragged Booker T up to his feet and steadily readied him for a Russian leg sweep. Booker elbowed out of it and threw Page to the ropes once again, ducking in the process, DDP stalled and hit a swinging neck breaker! Page made the cover. Two count only. Page banged on the ring canvas as chants of "Booker T" rang out from the crowd. Page dragged Booker up to his feet and Booker wasted no time in teeing off with right hands, a gut kick, and a hard sidewalk slam! Booker threw his hands up to the crowd to acknowledge their cheers. Booker T then walked over to the turnbuckle getting up onto the top rope awaiting Page to stand up. As Page stood groggy he turned around right into a missile dropkick! Booker wasted no time making the cover getting a two and a half.

Booker T seemed to be in firm control until he attempted the Harlem Sidekick which DDP dodged and kicked Booker in the gut and nailed a spinning sit out powerbomb getting a near fall of his own. Both men got to their feet to mixed chants of both "Booker T" and "DDP". DDP threw up the Diamond as a portion of the fans booed whilst others cheered. DDP advanced on Booker T and shaped up for the Diamond Cutter... Booker T grabbed a hold of DDP's arm, span him around, BOOK END! Out of nowhere! Booker T quickly covered Page as referee Nick Patrick dropped to the mat and counted the three. Booker T got up and took hold of his World title from Nick Patrick. DDP got to his feet and both men stood face to face in the ring. Page extended his hand and Booker T gladly accepted. DDP then threw Booker T's arm in the air.

The celebrations were short lived though as from out of nowhere, at least from the TV viewers prospective,
Jeff Jarrett
appeared from nowhere holding his famous acoustic guitar, and rolling into the ring right behind Booker T and DDP. Jarrett smashed the guitar over Booker T's head from behind sending him down in a heap. DDP turned around to face Jarrett but was also taken out by Jarrett as he hit him with the remains of the guitar. Jarrett stood over both men, his shades still in position, as the fans threw garbage into the ring to show their disgust. Jarrett then jumped up onto the second turnbuckle and raised his arms into the ring as Nitro went off air!

I'm liking this so far and I'll definitely be reading. I like that Vince and Shane's company are affiliated meaning that we could potentially see inter-company battles, and perhaps a more successful Invasion angle. This also makes me curious to see if WWE prospects at the time, such as Lesnar, Cena, Orton, or Batista, show up in WWF or WCW. I think the main event of this show was great because it highlighted the top stars of the company at the time. I don't mind the Mike Awesome match but I think a squash match isn't necessarily the best idea for showing a "new WCW." That's not that big of a deal though. I love the format, very easy to read. Good stuff!

Nothing offensive to read, but nothing spectacular either, I like your choice of roster and love the fact you didn't just oust Jarrett despite his history with the real WWF/E. I think for a first show it's got a formula, but it's not one that you want to stick to, methodical wrestling/booking can only go so far. I'd like to highlight though that your match writing is very enjoyable, not ridiculously simplistic, not overly complicated, just right :)

I think you first show was enjoyable, and does start feuds ready for the new WCW.

I like forward to see where you take RVD/Buff and if the 'ECW' shirt was a possible sign of things to come.

Shame you didn't bring over the cruiserweight tag titles, but that is just something on a personal level as i feel those titles could of produced some amazing matches, but it is understanding.

Look forward to see what new talent you bring to WCW, so keep up the good work.

I like it so far...

No real complaints.

Just wondering why you decided to keep Lex Luger and Meng around?

Is there any chance in seeing a full-fledged WCW roster or is it going to be a WWF-CW version?

OOC: I've been scratching around for something else to write alongside the diary as well as the shows and haven't come up with much, to be honest. But the one idea I have had is to incorporate the feedback given in the diary into a "mailbag" kind of deal on a fictional WCW.com. So, thanks for the people who gave my first Nitro feedback and hopefully this answers anything that you hinted towards wanting to know...

"THE MAILBAG"

The Informer
answers your questions!

I think everyone has been surprised by the recent success of the rebooted WCW. I think the majority of people in the business never even expected the new brand to even make it past week one. I think when the roster of talent available to Shane McMahon was first released a lot of people were unsure as to whether or not the company had the "star power" to bring back the fans who were use to seeing the likes of Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Sting and Goldberg on a regular basis but that seems to have really bought out the "A Game" in what is at the disposal of McMahon. I'm talking about the likes of Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Buff Bagwell and the man nobody expected to see back here, Double J himself Jeff Jarrett. But that's enough of what I think and it's time for us to hear from the loyal WCW fans and answer any questions that they may have.

Even though I've been a fan of WCW since the mid-90's I kinda like the idea that WCW is now affiliated with the World Wrestling Federation if only for the fact that now it's a possibility to see more cross-company stuff happening similar to what we saw at WrestleMania when Booker T interfered in the Shane/Vince Street Fight. I think there's also an opportunity to see new talent from the WWF's training facilities cut their teeth in WCW. I loved the first Nitro and enjoyed the main event between Booker T and DDP but was the Mike Awesome squash match neccessary? I don't think it was the best way to showcase what the new WCW has to offer.

There are no plans afoot for a cross company "Invasion" but the means for it are definitely there and you can never say never in this business. I agree, maybe a Mike Awesome squash match wasn't the best way to reboot WCW but you can rest assure that we're going to be seeing a lot more of Awesome in the coming weeks. -

I thought overall Nitro was pretty ordinary. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't too good. I was glad to see Jarrett back, though. I'm glad that his past problems with the WWF didn't ruin his chances of a return to WCW.

We're glad to have Jarrett back. He's a fantastic wrestler and his experience is invaluable to the younger guys in the back as build for the future. -

I thought Nitro was enjoyable and did well to start new rivalries. I liked the RVD/Bagwell stuff and look forward to seeing what will happen in the future between the two. Was RVD's t-shirt a sign of things to come? I would of liked to have seen the Cruiserweight tag titles bought back if only for the potentially great matches it could bring. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Craig. RVD impressed alot of people backstage on his debut and the fans really took to him. If you're refering to his "EC-F'N-W" T-Shirt has a sign to come I can neither confirm or deny, just watch this space. I too was a fan of the Cruiserweight tag team titles but WCW simply no longer has the quantity of wrestlers to pull off such a division at this moment in time.

Alex Whipper (

Is there any chance of seeing a fully fledged WCW roster anytime soon?

I'm guessing you're referring to seeing the likes of Goldberg and Hogan once again inside a WCW ring. Well, I can catergorically say no. And that situation is highly unlikely to change in the future.

Thanks a lot for your questions and comments. Keep them coming, in our attempts to maintain our high standards we love to hear from the fans whether it be negative or positive.

"Return Of The Chosen One."

The new intro for Nitro on TNN ends and were taken straight to
Scott Hudson
and
Arn Anderson
who are sat at the announce desk at ringside. Hudson starts off by damning the actions of Jeff Jarrett last week as Nitro ended with him leaving both World Champion Booker T and Dallas Page down on their cheaks after two "Acoustic Equalizers". Double A and Hudson then take it in turns to go through tonights scheduled matches. We learn that Shane Helms will again defend the Cruiserweight title this time against Chavo Guerrero, Mike Awesome will take on former Natural Born Thriller Mark Jindrak and also Rob Van Dam, making his Nitro in-ring debut, takes on Buff Bagwell.

Hudson and Anderson are then cut-off as a deep SFX voice sounds over the sound system saying "Ch-Ch-Ch-Chosen One!" followed by the guitar riff that can only be associated with
Jeff Jarrett
. Jarrett walks out onto the top of the ramp sporting wrestling gear and a "Chosen One" T-Shirt. He is holding his Acoustic guitar. The fans immediately voice their disapproval by booing. He ignores their chorus and makes his way down the ramp and into the ring. He stands on the second rope and poses as the pyros go off behind him. The music fades out and he takes a microphone. He begins by forcing the fans in attendance to watch his "triumphant" return to WCW last week on Nitro where he struck both Diamond Dallas Page and Booker T down from behind on what was formerly once known as the TurnerTron. He goes into detail as to why he had to do what he did and citing Booker T's claims to be the "very spirit" of WCW earlier in that same night as his main reason. He insults Booker T's credibility by saying the only reason the fans are cheering him so much is because Goldberg wanted too much money. This comment cues the music of the new WCW Chairman,
Shane McMahon
.

McMahon makes his way out onto the top of the ramp to a huge ovation. He walks down the ramp with the swagger that only he could. He takes a microphone of his own and the music fades. Shane reminds Jarrett that he isn't like Eric Bischoff or Vince Russo which means that he hasn't got the license to swan around WCW doing what he wants when he wants because nobody is bigger than WCW anymore. He goes on to say what Jarrett did last week on Nitro wouldn't go unpunished and tonight he'll go one-on-one with Diamond Dallas Page in the evenings main event. Jarrett looks on displeased but things are about to get worse as the music of the current WCW World Heavyweight & U.S Champion blasts over the PA.
Booker T
makes his way out onto the ramp. The Bookerman has a microphone ready as the music fades out as he chooses to remain on the staging area. Booker T starts off by saying that he does embody the true spirit of WCW but Jarrett embodies everything that was wrong with past regimes which gets a huge cheer of agreement from the fans. He then stresses that tonight it should be he that faces Jarrett rather than Dallas Page. Shane agrees that Booker T should get a chance to avenge what happened to him last week but not tonight on Nitro to the distaste of the fans. The fans are soon appeased as Shane announces that he's not a man to go back on his word so Booker T will take on Jeff Jarrett next week instead. Booker T looks the happier of the two as Jarrett prepares to run the gauntlet of taking on DDP tonight and Booker T next week!

WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

SHANE HELMS vs CHAVO GUERRERO

Helms dominated this encounter in the early going pummeling Chavo with right hands topped off by a couple of European uppercuts. The match exploded into action as Helms had an Irish whip reversed and was taken down by a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker getting Chavo a near fall. Chavo kept the pressure on Helms by connecting a stalling brainbuster, once again getting a two and half. Chavo whipped Helms against the ropes and ducked his head looking for the back body drop but all he got was a swinging neckbreaker from Helms. Chavo staggered up to his feet and found himself on the end of a single knee facebuster. Helms swept Chavo up looking to hit the side slam but Chavo swung his way out of it and hit an hurricanrana!

The action continued to go back and forth. The action spilt onto the outside briefly as Helms attempted to level Chavo with his Cruiserweight title before they returned to the squared circle. Helms dragged the Cruiserweight title into the ring with him although he found himself on the end of a powerbomb from Chavo. Chavo went up top and signalled the Frog Splash. As the referee concentrated on Chavo up top Helms reached and grabbed the Cruiserweight title. Chavo flew off the top rope and landed on Helms connecting with the Frog Splash but to the fans shock he bounced straight off grabbing his head! Helms got up as Chavo staggered and connected with the Nightmare On Helms Street picking up the victory and another successful title defence!

We return from the commercial break as the camera is positioned outside of Shane McMahon's office. We hear giggling from two women as the fans become suspicious of what could be going on. As the camera pans backwards we see
Kanyon
standing outside the office hesitating whether to go in or not. He eventually builds up the courage and bursts in through the door without knocking in. The camera follows him into the office and we see Shane sitting at his desk with both
Stacy Keibler
and
Torrie Wilson
perched on the edge of his desk. The fans cheer and Scott Hudson speculates as to what has been going on in there. Shane stands up from his desk and asks what the hell is wrong with Kanyon and warns him to knock next time. Kanyon apologies and says he just wanted to thank Shane again for giving him a chance in WCW and promises to head his advice of "seizing the day" and he strongly advises him to keep a close eye on tonights event because he's going to make an impact. Shane ushers him out the door and returns to his desk to continue his liaison with Torrie and Stacy.

MIKE AWESOME vs MARK JINDRAK w/ MIKE SANDERS

As Mike Awesome makes his way to the ring a video is shown of last weeks Nitro when Awesome destroyed Elix Skipper in the first match of the new era. Mark Jindrak makes his way to the ring with his mouthpiece Mark Jindrak. Jindrak impressively took it to Awesome in the early going with rights and lefts backing him into the turnbuckle corner. He topped off the early offence with an impressive-looking standing drop kick earning a two count. Awesome took the advantage back by exploding with an overhead Belly-To-Belly suplex knocking the wind out of Jindrak. Awesome went up top and came crashing down towards Jindrak with a top rope flying clothesline but Jindrak landed a right hand burying it into the ribs of Awesome and dropping him with a Belly-To-Back suplex, once again getting a two count. Sanders encouraged Jindrak banging on the apron as Awesome got back to his feet. Jindrak attempted to take Awesome into a sleeper hold to slow down the former ECW Champion but all he got was a release German Suplex!

Awesome got up to his feet and signaled the Awesome Bomb. Sanders jumped onto the apron but was taken down by a right hand! Jindrak axe handled Awesome from behind and whipped him into the ropes. Jindrak bowed his head and Awesome stalled... and dragged him under his legs. Awesome took him up and slammed him down with a devastating Awesome Bomb! Awesome made the cover and got the three count. Awesome didn't have time to celebrate as immediately Chris Kanyon slid into the ring and began opening up on Awesome with right hands from behind. Kanyon taunted the fans as they booed at the random and unprovoked attack!? Kanyon picked Awesome up and bought him in for the Kanyon Kutter but Awesome elbowed out of it, booted him in the gut and delivered the Awesome Bomb! I don't think that was the impact that Shane McMahon was talking about making.

We return from the commercial break with "Mean"
Gene Okerlund
standing in the middle of the ring. The fans give him a generous reception but the mood soon changes as he welcomes his guest to the ring, The former WCW Triple Crown Champion,
Lance Storm
. Storm's music plays as he makes his way down the ramp to a chorus of boos. Okerlund attempts to ask him his first question but Storm stops him in his tracks and encourages everyone to raise for the singing of the Canadian national anthem. This time around the anthem isn't interrupted as the crowd meet it with boos throughout. Storm pours scorn on the complete lack of respect the fans are showing towards him and his great native country. He then goes on to say that he thought WCW had learned from its mistakes and questioned why Diamond Dallas Page was granted a shot at Booker T's WCW World title last week on Nitro because if anybody deserved a shot at the title it was him. He reeled off his past achievements from his days in ECW and his time as the only ever WCW Triple Crown Champion as well as his credentials from being trained in Stu Hart's Dungeon.

Okerlund asked Storm about his future plans here in WCW and Storm responded by spelling out that he was ready to weed out the weak and the decrepit that still hobbled around WCW and was going to bring back an age when methodical technical wrestling ability spelled dominance in the world of professional wrestling over style and stupid catchphrases which created more animosity towards Storm. He stared chillingly down the camera as the fans got increasingly hostile towards him as he told them not to blame Canada but to blame themselves.

We find ourselves back in the office of
Shane McMahon
as he stands up from his desk. Infront of him at either side are
Billy Kidman
,
Rey Misterio
,
Sean O'Haire
and
Chuck Palumbo
. After last weeks events on Nitro both teams are shouting about how they want a shot at Kronik tonight after they attacked both of them. Both teams pleaded their cases before Shane stepped in and told them that BOTH teams will get a chance to take on Kronik tonight. Both teams looked satisfied with the outcome until Shane intervenes by warning them that it can only occur under one condition and that's to take half of one team and half of the other to face Kronik which means Palumbo will be teaming up with Misterio. Palumbo laughs and shoves Misterio as both teams begin to shove each other in the middle of Shane's office. Shane steps in splitting the two teams apart saying that's its his way or nothing so Palumbo and Misterio reluctantly accept the stipulations.

REY MISTERIO & CHUCK PALUMBO vs KRONIK

Chuck Palumbo is first out with Rey Misterio trailing him behind by a few feet clearly annoyed that he has to come out to Palumbo's music instead of his own. Palumbo starts this one out against Bryan Clarke. The two big men unloaded on each other with right hands with Clarke getting the early advantage. Clarke tags in Adams and Adams takes it straight to Palumbo with a range of chops and head butts. It's all Adams until Palumbo turns the tide of the opening of the match with a diving shoulder block. Palumbo gets up and tries to tag in Misterio who dodges the tag! Palumbo looks on furiously as Adams comes from behind with a clothesline. This prompts O'Haire to come out from the back pointing at Rey who hops off the ring apron to meet O'Haire at ringside. O'Haire points at the action in the ring as the shoves Misterio on his ass. The referee leaves the ring and tries to get O'Haire away from the action giving Kronik the opportunity to double team Palumbo and connect with a high impact double turnbuckle powerbomb. O'Haire gets even more pissed off as he can't get to the ring and continues arguing with Misterio. O'Haire goes to turn away with his hands held up before turning back and taking out Misterio with a hard right hand. Kidman runs down the ramp and jumps on O'Haire from behind leveling him with right hands.

As Kidman and O'Haire battle on the ramp, Palumbo lays out in the ring as Rey rolls back in now alone to face Kronik. It's just a matter of time before Rey succumbs to Kronik's brute force and ends up one the receiving end of the High Times as Adams covers to pick up a controversial three count. Kidman and O'Haire brawl to the back as Palumbo rolls out the ring holding his head with Misterio down and out in the ring.

walking down the hallway dressed in full wrestling gear similar to his traditional ECW attire. The camera then cuts away to
Buff Bagwell
who is stood in his dressing room backstage pacing back and forth holding a cellphone to his ear. Bagwell asks the person on the other end of the phone whether or not they're going to make it tonight. Bagwell ends the phone call with a broad grin on his face as he leaves the locker room.

We're also shown
Booker T
as he sits in his private dressing quarters causing Hudson and Double A to reiterate the fact that the Champ is still in the building.

BUFF BAGWELL vs ROB VAN DAM

The crowd are red-hot for this one as Van Dam makes his in-ring debut here on Nitro. Both men circle each other to begin with and lock up. Bagwell over powers RVD and takes him into a headlock. Van Dam finds his way ouf the headlock and whips Bagwell towards the ropes and attempts a standing wheel kick which Bagwell ducks out of the way and tries a clothesline of his own which RVD avoids then catches him with a spinning heel kick. Van Dam picks Bagwell up and sends him to the turnbuckle and hits two shoulder thrusts in a row, takes a step back and back flips before running into Bagwell again with a shoulder thrust. Bagwell staggers out of the turnbuckle holding his ribs and walks right into a thrust kick knocking him off his feet. Van Dam keeps the momentum up and hits the ropes, rolls and looks for the Tumbleweed leg drop which Bagwell avoids and Van Dam finds nothing but ring mat. Bagwell sits up and taps his head as if he knew what was coming and drags Van Dam up to his feet and connects with a Butterfly Suplex and gets just the two count. Bagwell follows up with some quick elbow drops and tries to cover Van Dam again but gets the two count once more.

Bagwell rolls out of the ring and reaches under the bottom rope dragging Van Dam with him. While hes dragging him on the outside he connects with elbows to the gut and prepares to bounce Van Dam's head off the railings. Van Dam blocks it with his hands and knees Bagwell in the gut and drives his head into the railing. Bagwell lays against the railings with his arms outstretched as Van Dam takes a step back and hits a spinning heel kick collapsing the barricade. The security at ringside restore the barricades to where it was as Van Dam drags Bagwell back in to the ring. He drags Bagwell to the turnbuckle and jumps up onto the top rope and attempts the split legged moon sault but Bagwell is once again wise to it and moves out the way. Bagwell takes full advantage of the groggy Van Dam and takes him down with a neckbreaker. Bagwell gathers his barings, looking around and signals the Blockbuster as the fans boo. Bagwell climbs up onto the top rope and awaits Van Dam to turn as he staggers around groggily. Bagwell dives off the top rope looking for the Blockbuster but Van Dam moves out the way as Bagwell lands flat on his back! Van Dam checks his surroundings and jumps up onto the top rope himself ready to end it.

As soon as Van Dam positions himself the camera cuts to the ramp way as Lex Luger sprints down the ramp holding a metal bar. Luger gets onto the apron and slams the bar across the back of Van Dam sending him back into the ring with a thud. The fans boo and throw garbage the way of Luger as he and Bagwell embrace in a hug. Luger taps his chest as he mouths the words "Totally Buff, baby" to the camera. Bagwell begins stomping away at Van Dam prompting the ring keeper to repeatedly ring the bell. Bagwell stops and both he and Luger stand over the fallen RVD on his Nitro debut with their arms raised in the air.

JEFF JARRETT vs DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE

We return from the commercial break with Dallas Page halfway down the ramp way getting a huge ovation from the fans as he seeks revenge for last weeks assault by Double J. As Jarrett makes his way down the ramp he looks back a couple of times as the announce team remind us that, Jarrett's Spring Stampede opponent Booker T, never left the building. DDP dominates in the early going with his usual arsenal of clotheslines and shoulder blocks as he looks to assert his physical strength. DDP continues to assert himself as he connects with an Inverted Atomic drop which leads to another clothesline and a two count for DDP. Jarrett gets back into the game when he plants a thumb into the eye of Page and connects with a snap suplex. Jarrett grabs the leg of Page and begins to stomp at the inside of his knee to the distaste of the fans. After a few measured stomps he drops his own knee into the inside of Page's leg grounded him completely. He drags Page up and whips into the ropes and jumps up for what looks to be an hurricanrana but Page reverses it into a sit out powerbomb and gets another near fall. Page gets up to his feet limping visibly in pain from the punishment his knee took earlier in the match.

As the match wears on DDP's pain is causing him visible discomfort as Jarrett continues to go back to it with chop blocks and stomps. Jarrett sets DDP up for the Figure Four but as Jarrett turns around he kicks The Chosen One away sending him the ropes. DDP hobbles up to his feet and throws his boot into Jarrett's gut and attempts the Diamond Cutter. Jarrett reversed it into a reverse DDT and got a near fall. Jarrett gets up pissed off and shoves the referee into the corner getting in his face. DDP gets up to his feet and spins Jarrett around and tees off on him with right hands. Both men exchange tired rights and lefts until Jarrett gets the thumb to the eye and scoops DDP up and slams him right back down. He grabs both DDP's legs and signals the Figure Four until Booker T appears at the top of the rampway holding the WCW World Heavyweight title. Jarrett stares at Booker T whilst still holding Page's legs and this gives Page the chance to roll Jarrett up into a small package and getting the three! Page springs up celebrating and rolls out of the ring still walking gingerly due to the focus that Jarrett put on his knee. Jarretts reaction couldn't of been any different as he made a bee line for the referee who rolled out to avoid any confrontation as Jarrett kicked the bottom rope and stomped around the ring pissed off. Jarrett pointed angrily at Booker T as the champion grinned. Nitro faded off air.

Great start to the diary. I enjoy your writing style and I like the roster. I was always a huge WCW fan, and I like where you are going. I only noticed one mistake...

DDP tells the audience of his respect for Booker T and how he remained loyal all those years and gives him credit for being a five time World Champion but asks the question of where "The Bookerman" was when he was single handily taking apart the poison that was the New World Order.

Booker T was only a 4-time WCW champion in the official WCW...I think he won his 5th WCW title from Kurt Angle in the WWE. But that's only a minor thing, haha.

I'm also glad that you are pushing Mike Awesome. I always thought he was horribly misused and saddled with stupid gimmicks. I look forward to reading more!

Hey Chill, I came across this when I saw your sig, and it intrigued me. I've read through most of what you've done and I'm really impressed.

In my diary, I've got a roster absolutely stacked with talent- but it's much harder, both as a writer and a creative "booker" to come up with ideas when you're a bit strapped in terms of roster size, and in your case money (not wanting to sign Goldberg and Steiner etc.)

Anyway, I do have one question.

In-game, assuming you're playing this out in EWR or TEW, is WCW a seperate company from WWF, or are you running them as one and just giving us the WCW portion.

The reason I ask is because somebody mentioned above about Cena, Orton, Lesnar possibilities in WCW, which wouldn't work if they were seperate companies. I think that having to wait out a contract and then stealing a worker from another company makes their arrival much more significant, and it'll probably increase my interest in this diary when a few people start jumping across- if they do.

I'm a fan Chill, you keep postin and i'll keep readin

20th April, 2001
"The Stampede Shapes Up."

The new Nitro intro ends and we're taken to the announce desk at ringside where Scott Hudson and Arn Anderson are sat as the Nitro theme plays in the background as they speak. The tandem welcome us to the third installment of Nitro under the WWF banner and we are shown a video from last week's main event featuring Booker T costing Jeff Jarrett his match against DDP and a graphic is shown of tonight's non-title match that will see Booker T take on Jeff Jarrett. Hudson and Anderson then alternate between announcing the rest of tonight's festivities that will include Rob Van Dam teaming up with Diamond Dallas Page to take on Totally Buff and Lance Storm in a handicap tag match. And on top of those two huge matches we'll see Palumbo and O'Haire defend their World Tag Team titles against Kronik as well as Kanyon taking on Hugh Morrus and Elix Skipper versus Lash LeRoux in cruiserweight action. And also, Mean Gene Okerlund will speak to Diamond Dallas Page.

As Hudson and Double A finish a riff similar to 'Walk' by Pantera plays over the sound system bringing the fans to their feet. Rob Van Dam walks out from behind the curtain wearing black boots, cut off jeans and the new RVD tank top. Van Dam makes his way down the rampway absorbing the cheers and slides into the ring. He poses for the fans on the turnbuckle before hopping off and grabbing a microphone. The music fades out and we're left with resounding "R-V-D" chants. Van Dam begins by stating that when he joined WCW he had no intention of starting off jerking curtains and wrestling in preliminary matches and that's what prompted him to come out and challenge Buff Bagwell on his debut. He goes on to say that he had respect for Bagwell as an athlete and a professional wrestler but that respect went right out the window when he had Lex Luger interfere on his behalf. Van Dam went on to challenge both Bagwell and The Total Package to a match at the upcoming pay-per-view Spring Stampede. The fans welcomed the prospect by cheering, but Van Dam continued, adding a stipulation to the challenge. Seeing as Bagwell had a "mystery partner" interfere last week on Nitro he has decided to call on an old friend to team up with him if Totally Buff are willing to accept the challenge.

This lights dim in the arena and the epic theme music of Totally Buff plays accompanied by a chorus of boo's as both Bagwell and Luger walk out onto the top of the stage wearing matching blue jeans, Bagwell is shirtless whereas Luger is wearing a white vest. The music fades and Luger brings a microphone up to his lips. Luger starts off by announcing that the fans had been waiting for a real star to make an impact in WCW and he couldn't help but grant their wish. And while he was on the subject of "real stars" he would like to accept the challenge laid out by Van Dam on behalf of himself and Buff Bagwell. At this point, Bagwell took the microphone from Luger drawing even more heat from the fans. He challenged Van Dam to forget about Spring Stampede and bring his partner out tonight when he teams up with Diamond Dallas Page to take on himself, Luger and Lance Storm. Van Dam was shown on camera grinning as Bagwell continued to talk and question who Van Dam's partner could possibly be. Van Dam, giving nothing away, bought the microphone back up and said that they would have to wait and see and the only clue that he was giving them was that his partner won't be carrying a whistle! Van Dam's music re-hit as Nitro's opening signaled that Spring Stampede was beginning to shape up.

ELIX SKIPPER vs LASH LeROUX

We return from a Spring Stampede promo with ordering information in the middle of Shane Helms' entrance down the ramp. He walks around the perimeter of the ring and takes a seat with Hudson and Anderson at the announce desk. He lays the Cruiserweight title in front of him and lets the announce team and everyone at home know that he's out here to scout his competition in the Cruiserweight division. He talks throughout both LeRoux's and Skipper's entrances to the ring about how he is the number one Cruiserweight in the industry today.

Skipper and LaRoux begin by circling each other and locked up. LaRoux attempted to lock Skipper up in a wrist lock but Skipper reversed and whipped him to the ropes and landed a dropkick. LaRoux hit the mat but bounced straight back up and found a knee planted in his gut. LeRoux doubled over stunned which allowed Skipper to run and jump onto the second rope and then to the third and catapult himself backwards into a leg drop on the back of LaRoux's head! Skipper covered and gained a two count. The commentary team were quick to applaud Skipper but Helms put it down as "needless showboating". LeRoux and Skipper both got to a vertical base and began to duke it out with rights and lefts with Lash gaining the advantage and connecting with a head scissors that sent Skipper into the turnbuckle. As Skipper staggered out the turnbuckle LeRoux teed off with a few jabs, span around, did the splits and connected with a huge right! The fans began to get behind LeRoux as he made the cover, getting a two count.

The action battled back and forth in the kind of encounter that seemed worthy of an acrobatics show. Skipper went for a hurricanrana but LeRoux countered it into a Death Valley Driver position and connected with the Whiplash. LaRoux covered Skipper and got the three count and a huge victory. As the referee raised his hand Helms got to his feet and sarcastically clapped in the direction of LaRoux who was leaving the ring. Helms then made his way up the ramp behind LaRoux until the lights in the arena went out. Mist began to rise around the stage highlighted by blue lighting. The huge Nitro screen lit up and a loud Godzilla-like roar bellowed through the arena and the words "ULTIMO DRAGON... RETURNS TO WCW" appeared on the screen sending the fans into a frenzy as Helms was shown on camera clutching his coveted WCW Cruiserweight Championship belt.

We return from the shocking announcement of the return of one of the most decorated wrestlers in history, Ultimo Dragon, to Chris Kanyon, who is standing beside new backstage announcer Chris Leary. Leary asks Kanyon about how much Shane's speech had affected him whenr he spoke to him on the first Nitro and whether interfering, and getting his ass kicked by Mike Awesome, was the kind of impact that Shane was encouraging. Kanyon reacted furiously and said that last week was a mistake and Mike Awesome was interfering with his destiny and that he wanted to forget about and tonight he was going to beat Hugh Morrus and begin his route up the WCW hierarchy and become WCW World Heavyweight Champion!

CHRIS KANYON vs HUGH MORRUS

Hugh Morrus dominated the start of the match hammering away with hard right hands forcing Kanyon to the turnbuckle corner. He whipped Kanyon aggressively to the other side of the ring and swept him up into a huge sidewalk slam and got a two count. Morrus pulled Kanyon up to his feet and Kanyon planted an elbow in his gut and connected with two European uppercuts. Morrus swung a clothesline at Kanyon in retaliation only for Kanyon to move and hit a Russian leg sweep. Kanyon covered getting just a two. Kanyon bounced off the ropes and leveled Morrus with a well measured knee drop and continued to stomp away. Kanyon turned to the crowd and received boo's and taunts from ringside. Morrus got to his feet using the ring ropes as Kanyon taunted and took him down with a short arm clothesline.

Kanyon staggered up from the clothesline and Morrus hit a running DDT and covered Kanyon almost getting the three. Morrus climbed up to the top rope to end the match and came flying off the top rope with his patented Moonsault and got nothing as Kanyon moved out the way. Kanyon stood up groggily and dragged Morrus up and attempted to hit the Flatliner. Morrus elbowed out of it and swung for Kanyon with a right hand but received a thumb to the eye for his troubles. Kanyon then hit the Flatliner and covered Morrus using the bottom rope for leverage. The referee got down unknowingly and counted the three count. Kanyon celebrated as if he had just been crowned World Champion and rolled out the ring. But little did he know that Mike Awesome was lurking behind him.

Awesome took Kanyon down from behind with a huge clothesline to the delight of the fans. Awesome picked Kanyon up by his trunks and bounced his head off the ring apron. Using his hair, Awesome dragged Kanyon over to the announce table and booted him in the gut. Awesome signalled the Awesome Bomb and dragged Kanyon under his legs. Kanyon dropped to the floor and wriggled out of the predicament to the dismay of the fans in the arena. Kanyon rolled into the ring and backed up... into Hugh Morrus. Morrus tossed Kanyon out of the ring back into the direction of Awesome. Awesome once again pulled Kanyon in, lifted him up and delivered a sickening Awesome Bomb straight through the announce table! The fans chanted a mixture of "ECW" and "HOLY SHIT!" as Anderson and Hudson stood in disgust as their working area had been destroyed at the hands of Mike Awesome as he repaid the favour to Kanyon for interfering in his business last week.

WCW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

CHUCK PALUMBO & SEAN O'HAIRE vs KRONIK

O'Haire and Brian Adams started this one out. The two men circled each other before the locking up. The much more experienced Brian Adams took control in the early going and powered away with his limited wrestling ability unleashing an array of chops and headbutts. The action swung back and forth between these rivals as both teams exchanged tags with their partners but things got interesting when Rey Misterio and Billy Kidman began to stroll down the ramp to the delight of the fans. They stood at ringside taunting the action in the ring and getting involved at every opportunity. Eventually, Kidman caused a disqualification in favour of Kronik when he levelled Brian Adams with one half of the WCW Tag Team titles from the outside.

As the referee called for the bell and Kronik were announced as the winners, even by disqualification, this caused all hell to break loose in the ring between these three teams. As they brawled in the ring various referees from the back and road agents attempted to split the battle up as Nitro went to a commercial break.

He says he's sick of seeing the three teams outside his office wanting to tear each other apart and he's found the perfect solution. So he announces that at Spring Stampede it's going to be Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire defending the WCW World Tag Team Championships against Rey Misterio, Billy Kidman and Kronik. ROB VAN DAM & DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE vs TOTALLY BUFF & LANCE STORM

Before the match begins the announce team heavily emphasis that Van Dam and DDP were happy enough to compete in a 3-on-2 match and ponder as to whether Van Dam's "mystery partner" will show up tonight. Totally Buff and Lance Storm entered separately whereas RVD and DDP entered together to show their unity. DDP and Buff Bagwell started out and DDP gained the early advantage as he unloaded with hard right hands and a few clotheslines for good measure. Bagwell began to worm his way back into the match as he planted a knee into Page's gut and bought his forearm down onto his back knocking him down to the mat. Bagwell taunted the fans before tagging in Lex Luger. Luger stepped through the ropes and approached Page and walked right into an Inverted Atomic Drop. Luger staggered around the ring holding his groin before being decked by a clothesline from Page. DDP tagged in RVD as he bounded through the ropes getting a huge cheer from the fans. Luger swung a right towards RVD and got nothing but air as RVD countered with some forearm shots before throwing him to the turnbuckle. RVD followed up with a running big shoulder block and took a step back and back flipped before heading back towards The Total Package and finding nothing but a huge clothesline from Luger. Luger dragged RVD up and hoisted him up for a hanging vertical suplex and got a two count.

Luger dragged RVD his team's corner and tagged in Lance Storm. Storm stomped away at RVD in the corner. Storm picked RVD up into a Somoan Drop position and ran towards the middle of the ring but RVD slid off his back and pushed him into the opposite turnbuckle. Storm turned around and swung a standing spinning wheel kick at him which Storm ducked and connected with a drop toe hold. Storm ran at the ropes and attempted an elbow drop which Van Dam avoided and hit Storm with the Rolling Thunder as he held his elbow on the ring floor. Van Dam covered but the pin was broken up by Bagwell who dragged him off. The referee ushered Bagwell back to his corner and Van Dam tagged back in Page. As the match progressed the three on two advantage became increasingly evident as Totally Buff and Storm began to use underhanded tactics at every opportunity to gain even more of an advantage. Storm evaded Page in the ring and tagged out everytime he was in the ring with him to the distain of the fans.

The encountered came to an end once Van Dam began to brawl with Bagwell on the outside leaving Page isolated against Luger and Storm. As the referee checked on the brawl on the outside near the announce desk. Page hit the Diamond Cutter on Luger and was ready to end this one until Storm hit Page across the back with a steel chair. Page fell onto the top rope and turned around straight into a Super Kick. Storm dragged Luger on top of Page and rolled out of the ring. The referee turned and counted the three count. The announce team questioned as to where Van Dam's "mystery partner" was and if he even had one.

BOOKER T vs JEFF JARRETT

Finally the main event had arrived as WCW World Heavyweight & United States Champion made his way down the ramp way over his "Yes, yes... No, no" theme. As Booker T posed with the belts the pyros either side of the stage were set off. As the smoke rose from the stage, The champion never materialized. At least not until he came rolling down the ramp way with Jarrett in pursuit holding a broken guitar! The fans booed as Jarrett stomped away at The World Champion at ringside and still hammering away with the remains of his broken acoustic guitar. The music cut out and he dragged Booker T up to his feet and he threw him into the steel steps. Jarrett picked out a member of the crowd and told him to "Shut the hell up!". The Chosen One continued to stomp away at Booker T as he walked around ringside and grabbed a microphone.

Jarrett rolled into the ring as Booker T lay against the steel steps recovering from the suprise attack as the fans chanted "Booker - T!". Jarrett lent over the top ropes and shouted out the name of Shane McMahon. He said that McMahon was sitting back there in his office dealing with Tag Team title issues and burying his head in the sand. Jarrett invited Shane to look at his Champion, Booker T, and look at the mess that he had left him in. he continued to rant and said that if that's what Shane wanted to represent the new WCW then he and the whole of this company could go straight to hell. As the fans booed loudly, Booker T got to his feet and leant against the ring apron, and Shane McMahon made his way onto the stage without music looking pissed. McMahon bought the microphone up and said that Jarrett had ruined tonight's Main Event with his cowardly antics. But he was willing to compensate the fans here tonight and WCW fans around the globe by making the match that everybody wants to see at Spring Stampede where Booker T will defend the WCW World Heavyweight title against Jarrett in a No Disqualification match. The fans went wild and Booker T rolled back into the ring still looking out of it. Jarrett dropped his microphone and began to stomp at Booker T again, dragging him up to his feet, but Booker T elbowed him straight in the gut and whipped him towards the ropes and connected with a Harlem Side Kick! Jarrett quickly rolled out of the ring and fell on his ass onto the ramp as he backed up.

Jarrett looked into the ring as Booker T taunted over the ropes still feeling the effects of the earlier assault, and behind him, stood the WCW Chairman Shane McMahon who stood with a broad grin on his face as Nitro went off air.

First of all, the spacing grates on me. Not majorly just something that struck me as odd and never got any easier to read.

Your writing is impressive and better than I expected for a first real diary. Admittedly you have taken your time before dipping your toe into the Dome but I have to say I'm impressed with what I'm reading. WCWWF is always going to have to take into account some backstage politics but you are working very well. The roster is standard 2001 WCW minus some obvious big names although where is The Wall? :(

I'm a big Sean O'Haire fan so it's good to see him being used correctly, and the trio tag thing going on is decent booking to get the WWF fans interested in WCW again.

Booker T - Jarret on free tv is a big call, but fair enough. I won't argue for now.

Anyways, I shall try to feedback each show from now... but know this. Even if I wasn't supposed to feedback because of the Ring, I'd actually keep my eye on this.

answers your questions!

Last week on Nitro we learnt that Spring Stampede is going to be headlined by Booker T and Jeff Jarrett as they compete for the World Heavyweight Championship in a No Disqualification match. WCW.com can also exclusively report that Diamond Dallas Page will take on Lance Storm in a match to decide who will be the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title. WWFE and TNN are said to be delighted with Nitro's TV viewing figures. This week, Nitro managed to pull in a 6.50 average compared to Raw's 7.46 and Smackdown's 6.91.

WCW Chairman Shane McMahon recently paid a visit to the WCW Power Plant, now ran by the notorious Killer Kowalski, and was said to be pleased with the talent that was showcased. His visit, although brief, was not pointless. He was there specifically to monitor several wrestlers who he deems ready to be promoted to WCW's full roster to bolster the tag team division. McMahon seemed particularly interested in the progress of Jamie Noble, AJ Styles and Air Paris.

WCW is delighted to announce the signing of Glenn Gilberti (Disco Inferno). Speaking of signings, the question that has repeatably been asked since WCW was purchased by the WWF is whether or not there is the possibility of "cross trading" between the two companies. WCW is somewhat limited by it's own means but that doesn't mean it's impossible for WCW to acquire certain wrestlers. Negoiations are currently ongoing to bring two WWF Superstars to World Championship Wrestling pending on the success of Spring Stampede. With that said; let's answer a few questions.

I have a question regarding how WCW is ran. Is WCW a seperate entity like it use to be or is it ran by the WWF completely. And is there a chance of seeing upcoming wrestlers tried out in WCW first before they break into the WWF ranks. I'm a fan so far, I'll continue to watch.

Again, I'll reiterate how WCW is ran. WWFE owns the rights to World Championship Wrestling outright. WCW is being ran as a seperate brand to the World Wrestling Federation as you know it. Both companies have different Chairmen. On the subject of young potential WWF Superstars appearing on Nitro it's in the balance. WCW is no way a feeder company for the World Wrestling Federation and such young wrestlers would only appear to benefit WCW and not the WWF. - I

I'm a fan of Sean O'Haire and I'm glad he made the transition over to the new WCW and I'm glad he's being used well. I like the tag trio feud even though it seems like something straight out the WWF. I've got one question though, where is The Wall?

I'm glad you're enjoying the tag division. WCW is once again, limited by its means, and there are plans afoot to bolster the tag division from within. It's just a case of sitting tight. We regret to inform you that WCW has recently released The Wall, aswell as Mark Jindrak, we wish both of them the best of luck for the future. - I

Thanks a lot for your questions, comments and feedback. We hope you'll keep them coming, in our attempts to maintain our high standards we're always glad to hear from the fans whether it be in a positive or negative fashion.

PRE-SPRING STAMPEDE NITRO

PREVIEW

27th April, 2001

The feud between Rob Van Dam and Totally Buff rages on as Mr. Pay-Per-View prepares to take on Lex Luger this week on Nitro in the Main EVENT. Will RVD's "mystery partner" make himself known or will Totally Buff continue to establish their dominance over the new fans favourite RVD?

WCW.com is once again glad to report exclusively that Diamond Dallas Page will take on Lance Storm at Spring Stampede in a match to determine the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. After DDP questioned Storm's Main Event capability, Lance Storm will attempt to prove his worth by competing in a Three-On-One Handicap match! Storm's opponents are yet to be named.

In a preview of the WCW World Tag Team Championship match that is set for Spring Stampede, Rey Misterio will take on Sean O'Haire and Brian Adams in a Three-Way Dance. Can their respective partners keep out of the match or will all hell break loose?

Also, Mean Gene Okerlund will speak to Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms and Mike Awesome teams up with Hugh Morrus to take on Chris "Impact" Kanyon and Elix Skipper. And of course, as momentum builds towards Spring Stampede, Booker T and Jeff Jarrett will both be in the building.

Yeah so this was initially going to a long spiel and thorough spiel about stuff in your diary but since EWB decided to crap out on me, I'll just write something different. Overall I must say that I am intrigued by this piece of writing. It isn't like the greatest thing ever but it is certainly entertaining enough for me to come back. I am a bit iffy about certain things like Shane Helms either changing alignments weekly or just being confused and some of the Booker, DDP and Jarrett confrontations that I would tag as a bit "Russoish". This is not the style or manner that they meet but more some of the promos done; like DDP and Booker on the first show where they suddenly shift between kayfabe and real backstage politics and also the "Goldberg wants too much money" comment seems like a bit too old WCW for me, granted that you want to take WCW in a new direction. I like that you are giving exposure to people like Kanyon and Morrus on a WWF controlled program but also the few new stars brought into WCW, Rob Van Dam. I am also enjoying the apparent push of KroniK. The message board thing is also a neat little feature.

Also, ARN ANDERSON!!~! :w00t:

A few thoughts:

1. I am enjoying the main event scene so far in your new WCW.

2. I like the format of the diary.

3. The messageboard feature is cool.

4. I don't really like the fact that Scott Hudson's broadcast partner is...Arn Anderson. Why not bring in Stevie Ray?

5. Any plans on making new tag teams?

6. What do you mean when you say WCW is "limited by its own means"?
