Remember the video of the player kicking that owl? Well he's been sentenced;

Panama international Moreno ordered to do community work at a zoo after infamous owl kick

Panama international Luis Moreno has been heavily fined and ordered to do community work at a zoo after infamously kicking an owl during a Colombian championship match.

It was the latest unhappy twist for Moreno who has already completed a two-match ban imposed by the league for the incident in February and is now serving a seven-match ban for kicking a grounded player in another game.

Pereira defender Moreno kicked the owl, regarded as a mascot by the home crowd, after it had strayed on to the pitch and been hit by the ball during his team's 2-1 defeat by Atletico Junior in the Caribbean city of Barranquilla.

The city's Office for the Environment (DAMAB) slapped a 26.78 million Colombian peso (£9,080) fine, equivalent to 50 times Colombia's minimum wage, on Moreno on Wednesday.

Moreno will also have to meet costs of 600,000 pesos for treatment of the owl, which died two days after the kicking incident, make a public apology to the city and do community work at the local zoo, DAMAB director Humberto Mendoza told the local daily newspaper El Tiempo.

He's still a bastard.

Also this;

Dutch football club VVV 'signs up' hat-trick toddler

A Dutch football club has awarded a toddler a symbolic 10-year contract after watching video of him scoring a hat trick into his toy box.

When Baerke van der Meij, one and a half, drove three balls into the box one after another, his father Jorg posted the video on YouTube.

VVV, the club in the south-eastern town of Venlo where the family live, invited Baerke for a "trial".

They were doubly impressed by the fact his grandfather had played for VVV.

"Baerke did his best to amaze professional footballer Ken Leemans with his football techniques," the club said.

"One can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kick technique, perseverance and, importantly, football genes of grandfather Jan van der Meij."

Importantly, too, the little Dutchman can shout "bal" (English: ball).

The signing of the contract, with a little help from Jorg, was toasted with a glass of orange juice.

The video originally posted on YouTube has been viewed at least 1.67m times.

The kid obviously has some talent but it's all a bit silly when they're at that age. Wish I was given an opportunity like that when I was a kid though, may have made it pro if I had!

Former Sunderland and Leeds United striker Michael Bridges has announced his retirement from professional football. The 32-year-old moved to the Newcastle Jets in 2009 and scored six goals in 15 appearances during his first season in Australia but has since struggled with a knee injury.

Sadly an early retirement was probably always on the cards for Bridges. In his younger days with Sunderland and Leeds he always looked like he would become a world class player, but injuries always held him back. Apparently he'll stay at Necastle Jets as the A-League club’s international football and business development manager.

I was there the night he returned from his first injury against Metalurg something or other and, even though I was just a kid, I remember people saying that he wasn't supposed to come back because his initial injury was that bad - he was out for the best part of 2 years IIRC. I'll never forget the applause from that night, bigger than the full-time whistle at scum, bigger than Beckford's goal vs Bristol Rovers; I think it was only paralleled by Lucas Radebe returning last season (or the season before, maybe) and Healy's winner vs Preston when we thought we were staying up :shifty: I was also there when he was reinjured against Malaga(?) a few weeks later, his career ended that night really. :crying: Great striker though.

He must surely be the most injured player of all time? As in the player who missed the most matches due to injury while under contract at a club. Saying that, Owen Hargreaves is giving a run for his money

Hargreaves is shocking, 8 minutes of football in the last two seasons and only 39 games in total since we bought him, and 34 of them were in his first season. I really am gutted for the lad because he was a world class player before his injuries.

KIRSTY GALLACHER IS RETURNING TO SKY SPORTS NEWS, TODAY AT 3.

Football's world governing body Fifa will hold a two-stage testing programme for goal-line technology, with the results to be discussed in July 2012.

Interested suppliers must apply by 3 June and the first tests will be held between September and December.

A shortlist of the best systems will go forward to the second round, between March and June 2012.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has already said that goal-line technology could be used at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Blatter's stance changed after Frank Lampard's disallowed goal for England against Germany in the 2010 World Cup, but he is demanding the systems show they can offer complete reliability.

Lampard was at the centre of another controversy last weekend when he was awarded a goal for Chelsea against Tottenham, despite television pictures suggesting the whole of the ball may not have crossed the line.

Bidding companies will need to demonstrate 90% accuracy rates for their prototype systems in order to get through the first phase of testing and then return a 100% success rate in the second phase.

Each firm can select the stadium in which they would like the tests to take place and the process will be divided into three parts:

- Shots from all over the pitch into an empty net. A 100% success rate is needed to pass phase one.

- 'Dynamic' tests: a ball-shooting machine will fire shots into the goal where a fixed wall will at first stop the ball crossing the line, and then be moved back inside the goal at different distances from the line. A 90% success rate is needed to pass phase one.

- 'Static' tests: a ball is placed on a sledge and moved at slow motion across the goal-line, sometimes with the ball rotating. A 90% success rate of this test is also needed to pass phase one.

For each test, an immediate signal that the ball has crossed the line must be sent to a referee's watch.

Suppliers that successfully pass phase one will be subjected to more rigorous and scientific testing in phase two, and Fifa said these will be carried out in "different lighting conditions as per the Fifa requirements for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil".

A statement from the governing body continued: "A higher volume of tests will be conducted to ensure a more precise evaluation of the fitness of a technology and to provide a full statistical analysis.

"This will include more simulated match scenarios as well as other factors including: software reliability; transmission signal quality; performance under changing weather conditions as well as on different pitch surfaces."

The International Football Association Board, the game's law-making body, will be presented with the findings at a special meeting in July 2012.

British company Hawk-Eye is expected to be one of the firms that apply. It believes its technology is 100% accurate but was not part of the first tests at Fifa headquarters in February because it needed a stadium in which to use its systems.

All 10 companies tested in February failed - including one system that registered a goal when the ball was two inches above the crossbar - although three did come close to being 100% accurate.

Our defenders are so tight the keeper just gets bored,

One Meville pass contains more class

Than all the house of lords,

With Micky it's a travesty that he's not England's number three,

See the size of Butler's thighs - he's running on pie energy,

Solid granite three-feet thick is softer than Chris Makin,

Survive him and we've Sorensen to save our Danish bacon!

It's hard to beat a football team that plays with a magician,

And Allan Johnston's cast his magic spell on this division,

Lee Clark is a mackem - talking with his feet,

We look through Alex Raebans so we're just too cool to beat,

It's plain to see that Summerbee could outwit Aristotle,

And all the Samsons in the land won't full up Bally's bottle,

FC Kairat player banned for life after astonishing kung-fu kick on rival

It’s fair to say that the people of Kazakhstan have taken a fair kicking over the years - mainly thanks to a certain Sacha Baron Cohen - so is it any wonder that the lads of FC Kairat are chomping at the bit for a good old rumble?

Unfortunately Lokomotiv player Radmir Muksinova may have looked slightly too similar to incestual, chauvinist spoof reporter Borat for Armand Masimzhanov’s liking.

The Kazakhstani’s are known to carry a venomous hatred for the man who’s tarnished their countries reputation across the world with his antics as Borat, so it seems plausible that’s what prompted Masimzhanov to launch an astonishing, unprovoked, flying kung-fu kick right into the back of poor old Muksinova.

Unsurprisingly ‘super-sub’ Masimzhanov has been banned for life following his best Eric Cantona impression, but how he’s the only one we’ll never know.

Scottish 'bad boys' Barry Ferguson and Alan McGregor will certainly feel slightly hard done by with their 'life-time ban' from the national team for childish swearing into a camera when they watch the below clip

Oh well, at least now if it all goes wrong for Joey Barton at Newcastle, he knows where to go.

Not that England's 'best' midfielder will have any shortage of takers of course...

The guy should be put in prison for that, he could have broke the other guys spine. Ooh Ahh Cantona...

Me mate just sent me this a few minutes....brutal absolutely no need for stuff like this in football. Good to see he's banned for life but he really should get done for that, no way he should be able to go unpunished.

Was just coming to post this. Was trying to keep an eye on everyone to see where it would happen but no need! 10 seconds and in and he literally launches across the screen and flattens him.

I'm not gonna lie. I laughed a little to myself.
