UFC PREDICTION LEAGUE - SEASON 2

Previously, on the UFC Prediction League:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcCSVWH-qcE

In Season 1 of the UFC Prediction League, HeadCheese emerged triumphant, fending off the challenges of the likes of Gazz, JohnnyPerfect and Disturbed. Latecomers JHS and Drock007 battled it out to not finish last, with Srar emerging triumphant after Drock did not predict the last event, and things have been so much different at the top had Jasonmufc not missed predicting two of the cards, abstaining from predicting the Bellator card and no-showing the TUF 18 event.

After a one month break from the league, what will happen this season? We're going to find out.

We're going to be changing it up a little for Season 2, as the UFC has also changed their model a little. Basically, due to the Fight Night cards thinning out a little in terms of recognizable names, the Fight Night cards and perhaps the TUF Finales will be having 3-5 fights. The major cards, the PPVs and the FOX cards, will have around 6-8 fights each.

Season 2 will begin on February 1st 2014 with UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber II, to UFC 172: Jones vs. Teixeira on April 26th 2014. That will be 10 events in total, one more than last season's. Also, there will not be a non-UFC fight card this time around to predict.

I will be sending PMs to those that participated last season as a reminder in case they want to join again, but anyone new is more than welcome to join as well.

Just as a reminder, here are the League Rules:

1) Each UFC PPV and UFC on Fox card will have six to eight fights for prediction.

2) Each UFC Fight Night and The Ultimate Fighter Finale card will have three to five fights selected for prediction.

3) A valid prediction is one with your predicted winner bolded. The manner in which the fight ends need not be stated.

4) Different fights will have different points. So, for instance, title fights, main events and co-main events will be worth more points. Preliminary fights will usually be worth less points.

5) There will be bonus questions that are not required to be answered, but are worth points.

6) If you wish to change a prediction after having posted your entry, you may do so, and you need not tell me, as I will only be tallying the scores after the fights.

7) The deadline for each entry will be one hour before the beginning of the Facebook / UFC Fight Pass fights.

8) For your first prediction of the season, please state your common board name (ie. Mehddie’s is Bad Eddie EddieG) at the top of the post so that I can help identify you down the season in case you change your username.

9) Anyone can join in anytime the season, but you will of course be at a disadvantage due to predicting fewer events than the rest.

10) Once I have posted the first card of the season, you can instantly join by predicting that fight card. I will then have you added to the list of people playing.

11) After you have joined, I will personally remind you when the deadline for each prediction period is looming near in case you want to change your mind and will also gently prod you if you have not predicted after a few days since I posted the fight card.

Below are the dates for Season 2. The points in brackets represent how much points are being contested for that card.

February 1st 2014 - UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber II (27 points)

February 15th 2014 - UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi (13 points)

February 22nd 2014 - UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann (26 points)

March 1st 2014 - UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway (12 points)

March 8th 2014 - UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa (13 points)

March 15th 2014 - UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler (25 points)

March 23rd 2014 - UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson II (13 points)

April 11th 2014 - UFC Fight Night: Minotauro vs. Nelson (13 points)

April 16th 2014 - The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia Finale (13 points)

April 19th 2014 - UFC On Fox: Werdum vs. Browne (23 points)

April 26th 2014 - UFC 172: Jones vs. Teixeira (27 points)

The first event, UFC 169: Barao vs. Faber II, will be up next Sunday. While we're waiting, however, here's a hype video for UFC 169.

Fun Facts

  • Unfortunately, most people got a lot of the bonus questions wrong by flipping the results; it was the Bantamweight title fight that would end in a finish while Aldo would cruise to victory via decision in the Featherweight championship bout. Most people had predicted the very opposite.
  • Gazz was also the only one to predict that Bagautinov and Lineker would get an even number of knockdowns, which being a big fat 0. Something tells me Gazz knew that both men were tough enough to not get knocked down, at least not against each other.
  • Poor Lamas, no one thought he would win, and unlike the infamous MacDonald vs. Lawler fight from UFC 167, this time everyone was right.

Jason, our resident flake ( :P ) from last season, comes out in the new one with a bang, winning the first event by one point, over defending and reigning champ HeadCheese. Slightly behind are myself and Drock, who last season came in midway through the season. Looks like this season he and Jason are being serious, intent on taking the crown away from HeadCheese.

First timer Chris2K has started his UFC Prediction League career nicely as well, with 21 points, on par with Rich, who seems to have washed away the demons of last season with a strong start here, and JHS, who narrowly beat Rich last season to climb into that third last position. It seems like their rivalry will continue here, as they are on the same points.

JohnnyPerfect, who finished in the top 4 last season, has started this season horribly, coming up dead last. Both he and Cymru, who sits in the second last position, will be blaming Herb Dean for what many feel was an early stoppage in the main event.

With that, we're on to our next event on February 15th from Jaragua, Brazil, with some major Middleweight title implications at stake, at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Mousasi.
