The best thing I could come up with was have one of his kids die and have a bitter ex wife/husband cut contact with the family and refuse him or anybody else allow see his grandkids, but alas she needs a nanny! Boom return of Mrs Doubtfire! Or some other character seeing as he couldn't conceivably use her again, seeing as she's a TV star.
