  1. This isn't the proof of concept thread, it's the greatest game thread so there's your answer as to why people are stating SA as their preference. While GTA3 was a great game in its own right, as the trilogy moved through, Vice City and on to San Andreas the general consensus is that they kept on building and improving the game - although it does seem close between VC & SA. Since people are preferring to put the GTA Series in as one entry since it's quite possible it'd have 4/5 entries (is GTAIV looked at more fondly now, bar cousin phone calls?). GTA3 was very much the proof of concept in how it all goes together and has been refined fantastically as time goes on. Maybe some who missed it at the time will overlook it since it was during the latter part of the trilogy that the series really came to life but because those games that followed on from it were so ridiculously good it doesn't come to the forefront as easily. That would be why a series entry seems to be the easiest way to do GTA the justice it deserves! For what it's worth, although it's slightly too early for this discussion my favourite thing in the GTA games was in 2 when you were playing the various factions off against each other. I know it's more story based now so understand why it's taken out but damn I miss that

  3. I still have fond memories of cruising Grove Street in a lowrider, listening to "Hood Took Me Under" and "How Could I Just Kill A Man". 3 and VC were fine, but I don't have the lasting memories of those like I do with San Andreas. They were good, and they were fun, but SA was the one that really got me to care. I didn't have that investment in the characters in 3 or VC, because they were all these OTT bad guys.

  4. I think San Andreas is the best GTA game, and possibly the best ever. GTA V obviously surpasses it in a number of ways like mechanics, graphics and overall world detail that couldn’t realistically have been on a PS2 game, but San Andreas was just so fucking good. The mission variety is incredible, whether you’re shooting up the hood, heisting a casino, burying someone alive in a portable toilet, jumping out of planes on to other planes, sneaking around a rappers mansion to steal his rhymes or trying to shoot down RC planes with a minigun (fuck that mission btw), they were all just so fun to play, and so much more memorable to me than any other games missions. The characters were amazing, larger than life and brilliantly portrayed, whether serious like Officer Tenpenny and Mike Torino or ridiculous like OG Loc and The Truth. The interactions and relationships between the characters were great. The dynamic between CJ/Sweet/Smoke/Ryder and the big plot twist. They gave you a reason to give a shit about the random characters, like Madd Dogg, Woozie, Zero etc. Even Officer Pulaski. I remember 11-year old me feeling so good about myself when I rid the world of that bastard (though that may just be because it took me a while to complete the mission). Then there’s the cameos from Salvatore Leone, Claude, Ken Rosenberg and Kent Paul. I could go on about the map seeming massive even though it’s smaller than GTA V, the variety of the cities and landscapes, the vehicles, activities like street racing, driving/flying school, dancing, basketball, etc., the character customization, the fun cheat codes, the amazing soundtrack and so on, but we’ve all played it and you all know the deal. I think the thing that really seals it for me is that it's fucking hilarious. San Andreas is the best As for anyone who disagrees:

  5. Because personally it seems a bit silly to put 4 versions on the same game into the discussion. GTA III is the most important since it was the first and was the blueprint and changed games. But GTA-SA to me was the last iteration that added 'stuff' (swimming, push bikes, car customisation, proper aeroplanes, player customisation driving/flying school? etc.) and had improved upon the previous iterations in a significant way. The way I think of it is if they remastered every version to have the same graphics but kept everything else the same, SA is the version I'd want to play. It had the best soundtrack and besides the underwater stuff I don't think they've added anything super significant since.

  7. Most innovative ≠ Greatest San Andreas took GTA 3, tore out its flaws and put it in a far more epic and enjoyable package than III and Vice City managed. It wasn't just an open world game, it was a downright adventure. This very sub-forum was literally born out of everyone trying to discover stuff in San Andreas.

  12. Speaking personally, I watched the first two episodes and was so appalled by the misfortune heaped upon those orphans that I haven't had the heart to continue watching. (until later this week probably)

  24. Sorry but I don't buy the notion that Kerr had no choice but to sit everybody. He could've split things up and sat one or two guys the game before. They're good enough to win with two or three starters out. Just punting away a game against the team you're competing with best record for is a joke.

  25. X-Men Legends 2 should also bee in the mix, I think. It was basically everything the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games wanted to be (though MUA 1 was pretty great in itself).

  30. I remember the days of Napster where Ben Harper was confused for many artists. Two that stand out was 'In Your Eyes' cover version by Jeffrey Gaines, and Eagle Eye Cherry's 'Falling in Love Again'. When DJing a friends wedding, I played Bruno Mars 'Locked out of Heaven', and someone asked what Sting song was that.

  33. That is huge for us, Quinn revamped the OLine in one year. Completely turned over. And he got Lang and Wagner cheaper than what Warford and Reiff cost. This also should totally focus Quinn on defense for the draft.
