I regret opening this thread because I now have another game on my wishlist.

My biggest worry has always been that the story will fall into Kingdom Hearts levels of convoluted nonsense. Having one or two new twists and turns doesn't bother me, but excessive wibbly-wobbly timeline claptrap probably would.

It seems that the most common complaint is that the open world gameplay can be a bit tedious and pads things out more than is necessary. I found that Remake had a few sections that dragged, so I'm not surprised, and while it's a bit of an annoyance, it doesn't sound as though it will ruin the overall experience.

Presumably, your thought process when you see them is "Oh, here we go."

I'm enjoying the Unicorn Overlord demo. I use the present tense because I still haven't finished it after two hours of play. With Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload and Eiyuden Chronicle coming in the first four months of the year, it's a remarkably busy time for tactical/turn-based RPGs. I don't think it's much of a stretch to think that many fans of those games will also be looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

It felt to me as if they put something together more for the sake of tradition than anything else. Most of the game covered today had already been announced. I think Nintendo is at the point where they don't have much that's ready to reveal before they formally introduce the next console. That's apparently been pushed back to Q1 2025, so it will be interesting to see if they're in a position to talk about it before the usual June Direct.

I would expect the new consoles to come out in 2027 as that aligns with the Activision case leaks and the general seven-year console cycle we've seen so far this century. However, if Sony releases a PS5 Pro, there will probably be some internal pressure to release a similarly powerful Xbox hardware revision, so it's likely that we'll see something before the "proper" next generation begins.

You can control your party members in Reload, as well as in 4 and 5. The battle mechanics are all very simple and quickly explained through in-game tutorials, so there really isn't much that you're likely to be confused about. I think it's worth bearing in mind that you're not likely to do everything in a single playthrough. You allocate your activities to sections of the day, meaning that in-game time is finite.
