  1. I always end up getting lost in those games. I have a really bad sense of direction.
  2. "I merely worked for an oppressive regime for free."
  3. I wouldn't expect anything outside the four games mentioned. We got Hi-Fi Rush as a surprise shadow drop last year, but there had been rumours about that for a couple of weeks beforehand. I haven't heard anything similar this time round. Ara is the one I'm most curious about. It's supposed to be akin to the Civilization games, which will always pique my interest, but Oxide's only previous game was generally considered quite mediocre, so I won't go in with lofty expectations. I'm yet to be convinced about Hellblade 2, partly because we've seen hardly any gameplay. I'm concerned it's going to be Microsoft's attempt at "prestige" storytelling, i.e. the gaming equivalent of Oscar bait, where you're funnelled down a corridor and expected to gape in amazement at the cutscenes. Hopefully, this showcase will allay some of those fears.
  4. It says it's a free trial when I looked. I think it must be one of the occasional "Free Play Days" offerings you sometimes get with Game Pass.
  5. Well, I might as well give it a go, then.
  6. GAME will stop accepting trade-ins later this year, with pre-owned games being scrapped once existing stock runs out. While standalone GAME shops are much fewer and further between these days, it's a significant sign that the business model has changed. It's always been a matter of time before the all-digital console market kicks in, so I suppose video game retailers are going to have to adapt sooner rather than later.
  7. I remember when my Medieval II Total War playtime figures were much higher than they should have been because I didn't realise that the launcher application stayed active when you quit the game. That meant that Steam still counted it as being played.
  8. Maybe the game is idling in the background for long periods of time and that contributes to the recorded time.
  9. I'd still like to see him have a doubles run with his brother. That would be a little less taxing on his body and would round off his career nicely. The prize money probably isn't enough to motivate him, though. Whatever he ends up doing, the fact that he's been able to do as well as he has in his mid-to-late-thirties with an injury that would ordinarily be career-ending is seriously impressive. That's on top of the ten Grand Slam finals he reached and the three he won, all during an era with three all-time greats in their prime. Spending time at the top of the world rankings shouldn't be forgotten either.
  10. Neither Djokovic nor Alcaraz were looking amazing in their first tournaments of the year, for what little that's worth, but I do agree that Djokovic ought to be the most likely champion. I wouldn't be surprised if Sinner reached a Grand Slam final or two this season, and I hope that Jack Draper can stay injury-free because he's good enough to be a top 20 player in the near future.
  11. I think the 2023 release I've been enjoying the most is Dave the Diver. I'm a fan of games that let you alternate between action and shop management (Recettear and Moonlighter come to mind), but this game keeps adding more and more odds and ends to keep you engaged. It's reasonably calm without skimping on player agency and varied without being overwhelming.
  12. Forest and Everton are expected to be charged with breaking FFP rules tomorrow. Both clubs are at risk of fines and points deductions.
  13. I consider that a decent start. While the scale was a little smaller than the original series, owing to the difference in arena sizes, they made good use of the space and managed to have a good go at emulating the feel of the show. I'm glad they didn't do what Sky did and make all the Gladiators heels. The old series was mostly good natured and friendly, which is what they're clearly trying to do here as well. All the events were fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing Power Ball return next week, if the preview is accurate. If I'm going to nitpick, it would have been nice to see the old Eliminator theme tune come back. It's also clear that this is a first series because the crowd doesn't really know the Gladiators' personalities yet, but that's something that should sort itself out if the show gets to keep going long enough.
  14. I like it when games don't display an objective marker straight away, but let you find out the direction you're supposed to go in with a button press. I think it's an elegant solution that caters to everyone.
  15. I still don't understand how you can use video footage and get decisions like that wrong.
  16. There will be an Xbox Developer Direct show on Thursday 18th January. It will feature Avowed, Ara: History Untold, Hellblade 2 and the new Indiana Jones game.
  17. I wonder what the BBC employee policy is on advertising through wrestling booking simulator forums.
  18. It looks as though Luke Williams will be leaving Notts County to become Swansea's new manager. I'll be sad to see him leave, but it was always going to be hard to keep him when a club two divisions higher and closer to his family came knocking.
  19. They got the old theme tune and the general look of the original series back. This looks a lot better than the ill-fated Sky reboot.
  20. Even though it's sad Steve Cooper had to go, Forest have looked like a different team since Nuno took over.
  21. Matt Turner is a gift to every opposition player he faces.
  22. I won't take any because I've already got too many Steam games, but that's nice of you.
  23. Brighton must be the most exciting team in the league right now. They've had ridiculous wins and ridiculous defeats.
