  1. General Television Thread

Last night’s Curb Your Enthusiasm was tremendous.
  2. General Television Thread

I absolutely love the regular characters without the established major resumes. Great performances all around.

Yeah, Wire first. And to jump off what GoGo said, Season 1 Of Boardwalk is a tougher go than some (though not that bad), but it’s a necessary prologue to the rest of the series, which is pretty damn great.
  4. What Did You Watch Today?

I fucking loved The Little Hours. Funniest film I've seen in a long time.
  5. General Movie Thread

I've started it! Need to finish it. In the running.

Pretty much all of those are on my list. That said, exploitation films like those can sometimes be a bit much for me. For example, I had to turn off Maniac after the first kill. It was as though I was supposed to identify with this very realistic tortured murderer.

Several people have recommended Tucker and Dale to me. I do intend to see it. That said, I'm looking more for the unironic films that have no self-awareness.
  8. What Did You Watch Today?

Yo Puke! How'd you feel about It?
  9. General Movie Thread

Suggest some slasher films for me to watch. Especially stuff that's available on Netflix, Hulu, HBO, YouTube, or Tubi. Sleepaway Camp is my favorite so far. The worst thing a slasher can do is be boring. I'm also open to other horror of the cheap thrills variety.
  10. Twin Peaks

A friend of mine has formed a group on Facebook wherein the members will all watch the full series again, one episode per week, and discuss as we go. We'll likely choose a podcast to follow along with that in concert as well. Then we'll discuss each week's viewing/listening. Some people have seen it all, some are brand new, so we're discussing it spoiler free as we go. We start the week of October 1st.
  11. Favorite Youtube Channels

I've never liked Red Lettter Media, despite the fact that they cover the stuff I like. Feels like part of a larger cynical culture around "bad movies" that includes really dumb stuff like "Everything Wrong with." (Instead of being playful and celebratory like the better angels of MST3K.) Sidenote: Are all the embedded videos making it difficult for anyone else's browser to load the page? This thread always slows mine to a crawl, sometimes crashing.
  12. Game of Thrones

    The damn hell?
  13. Twin Peaks

There are definite echoes of Eraserhead. A bunch of Episode 8 and pretty much anytime something remotely industrial appears. (i.e. Jeffries as a kettle, etc.)
  14. Twin Peaks

Would that mean the protagonists were going up against Explanation all along? That would be incredibly meta.

Hobo hit on something worth pointing out. I got to watch this one with friends as it aired for once. One of them theorized that everything genuinely was resolved once Bob was destroyed. But then Cooper's hubris got the best of him. All the cheering and great feelings last week were for a man who - while entirely good - reaches beyond his grasp. He couldn't let well enough alone and had to try and save Laura - to do the impossible, to upset the order of things. It becomes stranger when you consider Laura apparently DID see Cooper in the woods way back in Fire Walk with Me, which would imply this was all destined to happen. First the boughs of innocence are gone, then all good. The angels disappear and we fall forever, faster and faster, on fire. Perhaps, in the end, this has all been about the loss of innocence.
