  1. This. I love that movie. So much. I have in my possession, Ghost Dad. I don't care what you say. I love this movie. I'm glad it's the last film Sidney Poitier directed. I don't know how to quit you. And I don't want to.

    Like hell, more food!

  3. While we're at it: holy fuck, thank you evolution for Julie Newmar.

That episode also has the tremendous "selections from Jack Palance's journal" segment.

I want so many of these.
  6. Don't forget Santa Claus. I love this discussion. There's a shit-ton of great stuff on the series that's largely forgotten. Am I the only one who loves Marsha Queen of Diamonds and Shame?
  7. Well, I can't point you to a source for that - other than the movie itself. I'm quite certain it was all intentional.
  8. Disqualified, as they knew exactly what they were doing. And it was brilliant.
  9. The truth is that the "Homer and Lisa" episodes are the best episodes of anything.
  10. "Pierce, wake up! Jeff's gonna heal us all!" "Is she going to powder her vagina?" " . . . porque es muy rapido."
  11. I have little to no desire to see the show continue on a different network or direct-to-DVD. I'd bet good money that nearly all of the voice talent, producers, and major writers feel the same way. All I'm asking is that Fox give the show ample notice (at least through the end of Season 24, considering how long each episode spends in production) of its nearing end, so that a) the creative forces behind the show can give it a proper finale and b) the final season can be well-promoted. A 25th season would be nice, but that has no significance outside of being arbitrarily considered the year for a "silver anniversary."
  12. This really does piss me off. I get that not everyone enjoys the show like they used to. I get that others just plain dislike everything after about Season 8 (Season 4, for some.) I get that the show is not the mega-pop-culture phenomenon it once was. And I get that many other shows have cropped up over the past 20 years that mostly fill any gap this cancellation would leave behind. But we're talking about a series that arguably made Fox what it is today. There is no other series you can point to that can make a better argument for being "the flagship." Moreover, there have been few shows in the history of television that can boast the overall cultural impact that The Simpsons has had. How many other series can claim to have entered a new word into the English language that perhaps outlasts the show itself? What of the many, many shows that have come (and gone) since this show began that bear the distinct influence of The Simpsons? Hell, just consider the influence on animation, primetime or otherwise. Consider how rare it once was for a primetime comedy to so frequently, directly, and deftly tackle taboo social and political topics. Hell, consider how rare that is today. If you're Fox, you can even ignore nearly all of that and just consider how much fucking money this show has made for you for over two decades. But yeah, the profit margins are slimmer than they once were. That certainly cancels out everything that came before. I'm not saying the show should never end. It must end, sooner or later, and we've always known that. However, The Simpsons has transcended being just a TV show and has become a cultural institution. Give it a respectful ending, on its own terms, and respect the people who put in the work to make it happen. Fuck you, Fox.
  13. I want to be reasonable, but all I can think right now is "Fuck Fox."
  14. This really does bear repeating. The very best terrible movies are the ones that have no idea they're terrible. It relates to something the Rifftrax guys tried. As an experiment, they riffed one of film history's true greats - Casablanca. The theory is that in order for a movie riffing to be great, the one true key component is that the movie take itself seriously. So, to me, that's the number one thing any truly awesome terrible movie has going for it: it takes itself seriously.
  15. I'm sure many of you won't care by now, but the Simpsons is once again in danger of ending because of a money dispute.
  16. My list was edited. Lisa was a major oversight, and served the same purpose as Mr. Bergstrom in many more episodes.
  17. Sonofabitch, I gotta get Netflix.
  18. I am not necessarily upset that we get a full season of Whitney, but only because I remember what it was like to have to hide from the horror of Outsourced.
  19. And I'll take up smoking and give that up!

  20. I loved the House premiere, but anyone who knows me isn't surprised at all.
