You guys do realise that the more you talk about 2001 WWF, the more I'm going to end up (consciously or not) stealing half your ideas. :shifty:

(Actually one of my main plans re: Invasion-ish stuff has already been mentioned...but I'm not going to say what because there's a good chance I'll end up changing my mind anyway)

I have no idea why this was included in the quotes but I'm too lazy to remove it. :shifty:

I can't hate on the 7th season of Red Dwarf for 2 reasons.

    1. The first episode was fun, especially the extended version.

    2. Because it gave us this....

I honestly think Tikka to Ride is one of the best episodes.

I was rather fond of it as well, as you can see from the above. Lister exploding cameras and wrecking history from the 20th century on because he fancied a curry.

I enjoyed that episode but it had no laugh track (on Netflix at least) and it was just dead weird without it. One or two episodes later I gave up trying to watch it and haven't gone back since.

The original versions have laughter, but the Netflix ones don't. It's past the second episode that the series nosedives, in my opinion.

I purchased the vhs tape back in the day and it didn't have a laugh track and yeah, it felt really weird. Still that tape got plenty of play due to the extended scenes like the song in the video further up in my post.

    Zidane eyes Man United job

French boss wants to replace Mourinho

After leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season, Zinedine Zidane has his eyes on a job in England, according to L'Equipe.

The French manager had his eye on coaching his country, but with Didier Deschamps having won the World Cup, Zidane has now turned his attention to Manchester United, where he would like to take over for Jose Mourinho.

New Manchester United midfielder Fred could have gone somewhere other than Old Trafford when he left Shakhtar Donetsk this summer.

"There were options in England and in Europe," Fred told me in Miami during United's preseason tour. "Manchester City, PSG, but I chose United. I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who played for Arsenal. He told me that United was a huge club. I spoke to my family and friends. When I said United, I saw their faces. I'm sure that I made the right choice. I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best league in the world. I had a proposal from China too, but I didn't want to go there because I wanted to join United."

In the face of interest from better teams, United scouted and contacted Fred, completing his signing on June 21. The credit for that goes to executive vice-president Ed Woodward, head of corporate development Matt Judge and manager Jose Mourinho. Maybe Fred will become a world-beater; maybe he will underwhelm as much as other Brazilian midfielders to have played for United. What is certain, though, is that his transfer, like that of Marouane Fellaini in 2013, will be viewed as part of a window in which his new club failed to get the other players they wanted.

That failure dominated the build-up to the new Premier League season. Mourinho spoke continually about his frustration in preseason, while United sent a different message. Paul Pogba, who was made captain on Friday for the win against Leicester City, said something else entirely. United is not a club at which everyone sings from the same hymn sheet and that is far from ideal, but each of the parties involved have their own -- valid -- points of view.

Mourinho did not get the players he wanted. The club feel that they have backed him strongly since he arrived in 2016 and maintained that top money was available to sign a young, world-class defender who would have improved the current team. What they would not do was break transfer records for players only marginally better than those already on the books, which is fair enough.

The relationships between Mourinho and Woodward and Mourinho and Pogba could be better. Maybe, one day, they will. Maybe, as Mourinho suggested on Friday, managers will become more like coaches who work with a sporting director, a model Manchester City or Barcelona have found successful. United have long been advocates of the manager having all the power. During the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, he was very much in charge, though he relied on trusted assistants like his brother Martin or assistant manager Mike Phelan to watch potential targets and offer a second opinion.

"We didn't want to do that (director of football)," Woodward told me in 2013, soon after taking his current role. "We have a manager who we want to give our full support to make his decisions about the players and the decisions about the academy. [David Moyes] has the same power that [Sir Alex Ferguson] did."

Five years on, things have changed and the club is looking to appoint a director of football, who has responsibility for continuity of playing style and recruitment. In the best cases, a DoF brings outstanding talent to a club and works closely with its managers. Txiki Begiristain, for example, has worked with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona and Manchester City. Monchi, now at Roma, set the template for a whole club when at Sevilla, where he spotted players like Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic. Such people know football and can not only evaluate a prospective signing based on ability but also assess whether or not he can fit into a system. What is more, those players might not necessarily be the biggest names; a tactic United have often used with patchy results.

For the DoF model to work, there would need to be compromise on all sides; when a manager and director of football do not work together, it can be negative and destabilizing at a club. When they do, they can help each other do their job better. It remains to be seen how Mourinho would work with a DoF -- at Real Madrid he fell out with Jorge Valdano, who left his job as sporting director -- or whether he will have any say in who takes the role, though both will have a say in transfers. There would also be input from Woodward, as there is now. But it is better to bow to, say, Edwin van der Sar's knowledge than that of Woodward in the inexact science of football recruitment.

A good DoF is adept at identifying talent and negotiating transfers and would know if player X at Barcelona or Real Madrid was genuinely seeking a move, as opposed to using any "interest" in United to get himself a better deal at his current club. Knowledge and contacts are vital in DoF role and ideally, in these days of managers' ever-shorter stays in one place, they can look to the longer term. United is a club still undergoing significant change, with senior positions -- including a new director of communications -- to be filled. That pales when the team are playing well and winning but, when they are not, supporters justifiably ask questions.

A director of football will not be a panacea for every transfer market issue. However having a skilled, respected operator, who works and cares for the club, could be a significant asset.

  4. It still kind of baffles me that T-Dog survived  as long as he did  with so little attention paid to him and with even less character development given to him.

Then they kill him off and Merle later briefly rejoins the group in the very same season . If there was any reason  to keep a character alive for as long as they did with T-Dog with obviously so little care shown for the character, it surely should have been to see Merle & T-Dog on-screen together again for  the first time since season one considering  what happened with them back then(racism/dropped keys).

Alexis Sanchez admits “the time has come for Manchester United to win more trophies” as they prepare to open the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Jose Mourinho’s side ended last season empty-handed, with even the January arrival of the Chile international forward unable to steer them to silverware. They did reach the FA Cup final, where they came unstuck against Chelsea, but more is expected this time around as they head back out on domestic and European quests.

Alexis concedes that the Red Devils have to deliver, despite taking in a quiet transfer windowthat saw no new signings arrive on deadline day, with the 29-year-old having moved to Old Trafford in order to challenge for major honours.

He told United Review ahead of a season opener against Leicester City: "The first four or five months were a learning period. Now I want to go all the way, I want to fight for everything. I am preparing myself mentally and physically to face all that lies ahead. Now that I know my team-mates, I can focus on what I want to win. I am here to demonstrate the quality I’m here for. The time has come for United to win more trophies. We need to be fighting among the best."

Alexis managed just three goals in 18 appearances for United last season as he struggled to produce his best following a high profile arrival in the winter transfer window. He has now got a full pre-season under his belt in new surroundings, with Chile having missed out on World Cup 2018, and the former Arsenal man is raring to go. Mourinho will be looking to him for inspiration from the off in the current campaign, with the Red Devils aware of the need to hit the ground running if they are to mount a title challenge.

Sanchez added on the approach United must adopt: "As Manchester United… as a big team, pressing forward, and with a desire to win – with the mindset that distinguishes United from others. United is a big team. Even though we have improved a lot, we need to keep improving. Now it is time to prove it, to fight for the top spots, and I think this is the season to do it."

  6. I remember one of the things that used to annoy me when I collected the series was not being able to get a perfect CAW because they'd included almost all of what you needed but one part was inevitably left out. Want to create the Bushwackers? We have their taunts, entrances and moves in the game but you'll have to call them Rod and Todd The Fighting Mongooses because we didn't add Butch, Luke or The Bushwackers to the announceable names. :shifty:

  7. One of my favourite ever youtubers was a guy called WeazelZone.

Probably the 3 biggest games he got me into were Rimworld, The Long Dark and Prison Architect. With the Long Dark, I'd never even slightly been interested in even watching a survival game before him. I'd also credit him with my interest in Death Road to Canada, 60 seconds and Papers Please  as well.

He gave up youtube though because of how dickish it was getting with ad revenues and various changes. He tried twitch but is now on Facebook live streaming and posting shorter sub 20 minute lets plays in his facebook group.

Pretty shitty month for him, just now, as his mother just died of cancer 2 days after his father in law committed suicide. :crying:

  8. I was hoping Negan would get what he deserved unlike in the comics and when they took responsibilty for Abraham's death off of Dwight and onto Negan in addition to keeping him still ending Glenn, I thought it was the shows way of keeping Dwight's hands clean and making it easier for a tv audience to accept him as a good guy later on and setting Negan up for a satisfyingly brutal death later down the line now that he was directly responsible for 2 major character deaths.

It might help admittedly if I'd not stopped watching a few seasons ago and seen any progress Negan may have made as a person/character but especially if Andrew leaves I guess they'll be keeping everyone else they can and I won't get that satisfying end I craved. :(

  9. I legitimately thought he already was the only one.

On another note it's interesting to me that she's apparently more known for Facts of Life as I only knew her from Different Strokes. Facts of Life was just one of those shows that never made an impact in Australia, at least not my part of it(Boy Meets World was another).

  10. I'd always thought it was 2 timelines (In fact I could swear I heard the original being referred to as the Prime Universe) but  I also thought that they were unlikely to ever revist the original except in maybe novels or the odd game and that any future TV Shows would likely be set in the new universe(or at least take their inspiration from the world set up in the movies and be some kind of weird hybrid).
