  1. Jason Momoa was the best thing about that entire movie! If anything, I feel like Vin Diesel's character having no counterpart for his seriousness and stoicism ever since Paul Walker died is a big problem. I had hoped that either Dwayne Johnson or Lucas Black would take Walker's place eventually. But Johnson and Diesel had a very public falling out and Lucas Black has barely been part of the franchise, only making cameos. So for the most part it has been Diesel doing his own thing by himself (or sometimes accompanied by Michelle Rodriguez whose character is almost as stone-faced and dour as Diesel's is) while the rest of the crew usually gets their own subplot and they only ever interact for the big action set pieces. And Diesel on his own just isn't fun to watch, particularly when his performance is somehow getting more serious and earnest while the movies get more outlandish and over the top with each new instalment. That issue was really noticeable in the last movie in which John Cena was playing the antagonist and they had him act just as serious and dour as Vin Diesel. It was awful. The franchise was in serious need for someone to balance out Diesel and they found just the right person in Momoa. I really hope that the director and the producers tell Diesel to fuck of when he inevitably throws another tantrum and tried to get Momoa fired or get him to tone down his performance..
  2. A PSA regarding a 100% game completion progress-halting bug in the bounty hunting side-activity:
  3. As per her official Facebook page and a statement made by her publicist, the legendary singer passed away at age 83 in her home in Switzerland after a long illness. My first memory of Tina Turner was watching her perform the theme song for the James Bond movie Goldeneye live one some TV show and it blowing me away. It is my favorite Bond opening song to this day. R.I.P. to a brilliant singer and and absolute legend.
  4. My pick for worst cover ever would be former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen cover of Whitesnake's Still Of The Night. It is a baffling pick of a song to cover as it doesn't fit her singing style at all and the and the cover turns out to be terrible. The weirdest choice they made was messing around with the main riff which is one of the best parts of the song:
  5. So my favorite anime this season by far is Insomniacs After School. As the name suggests, the anime is about two high school students who both suffer from Insomnia. One day, Ganta Nakami stumbles upon the school's abandoned astronomical observatory. While trying to take a nap in there, he meets fellow insomniac Isaki Magari who has been taking naps there for a while. They both decide to turn the place into their personal sleeping spot at school. They eventually get discovered by a teacher and in order to continue to use the room, they have to resurrect the school's astronomy club together. It is really sweet. But in today's episode, one of two says something ominous:
  6. Well, we might have lost. But there is at least some good news: The bland commentator who has done Eurovision here since 1997 will retire after this year's edition. So at least there is that.
  7. Last place for Germany again. I really thought that this year we had a chance to at least make it to the 2nd column. I figured the juries wouldn't appreciate Metal but I hopped the audiences would enjoy it more than they did. Oh well. See y'all again next year.
  8. The juries don't seem to enjoy German Gothic Metal. Brutal.
  9. Indeed. It would be terrible if Eurovision became political. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hear the Croatian entry again tomorrow which is not political at all and certainly not made in response to any current geopolitical events: No sir, no politics here.
  10. I feel like it might have something to do with 2K putting out decent WWE games again. When work started on Fight Forever, the WWE 2K series was in crisis after the botched release of WWE 2K20 and they were forced to take 2 years off. That really was the perfect time to start a new wrestling game franchise. But then the WWE 2K series made it's comeback in 2022 and it appeared like Visual Concepts had turned over a new leaf with their wrestling games as both 2K22 and 2K23 are getting good reviews. Maybe the developers at Yukes think that what they have isn't enough to compete with the new 2K games and that is why they keep delaying and adding new stuff.
  11. I bought Jedi: Survivor a few this a few days and I'm finally starting it now. And right away I'm noticing the same thing as I did when I first booted up Horizon: Forbidden West: The recap video of Fallen Order that plays automatically when you start the game is awful. If I was a new player, I'd be completely lost. Hell, even as someone who has played Fallen Order I'd still would have been lost if I hadn't just watched a recap video on Youtube to refresh my memory. If anyone here wants to skip Fallen order for whatever reason and jump into the series with Survivor: Look up one of the video recaps on Youtube.
  12. I have to concur with Chris2K's opinion. The movie was really good. Unlike Taika Waititi, James Gunn still delivers. I'm sad to see him go from the MCU but I'm also curious to see his vision for the DCEU once this writer's strike is sorted out (hopefully in favor of the writers).
  13. Who cares about what Springer's intentions were? Maybe his approach to daytime talk shows was a bit more humane than that of his contemporaries or the people he inspired like Jeremy Kyle. But the end results were the same. The guests were still allowed to humiliate themselves in front of a jeering audience in the studio and in front of TV screens. I just fail to see anything good that came from that show. If he truly cared about his guests, he shouldn't have done the show to begin with.
  14. What is happening? Why are we suddenly tying ourselves in knots trying to find something noble and altruistic about the TV show that he moderated? The Jerry Springer show is the last show on earth in need of critical re-evaluation. It is a show about exposing those living a the margins on national TV (often pitting them against each other) for the rest of the nation to gawk and laugh at. Lowest common denominator bullshit that people watch to feel better about themselves because even if there are things going wrong with their lives, at least they're still doing better than the people on the show. It was deeply exploitative and shouldn't be celebrated. And while I agree with the embedded tweet above stating that it is a bad faith argument to say that the show is somehow the root of all of America's problems, I still think the show was deeply exploitative and shouldn't be celebrated.
  15. So I finished the Burning Shores DLC. Spoilers ahead: Overall I'd say it is worth getting if you enjoyed the main game.
  16. Does .Fun fall into this category? They broke through with their 2nd album that went platinum in several countries and had 3 multi-platinum single and then announced out of the blue that they were going on hiatus from which they haven't returned yet and probably won't any time soon given how successful Jack Antonoff has become as a producer.
  17. The only real answer is of course John Parr's St. Elmo's Fire:
  18. They actually patched a couple of things including adding the Buckshot Lariat to the game (it is called Slingshot Lariat and only available to use a a Signature move or Finisher) among many other things. It is a pretty good patch.
