The Giants are preparing to formally announce Eli as their 2019 starter.

I don't see the point to this.  There's nothing to announce.  The guy is under contract next year, and he was never at risk of getting released.

If they think anointing him as the starter is going to stop the media from asking them if they're still considering drafting a QB in April, they're mistaken.  And I also don't buy the Giants will pass on a QB if they fall in love with one before late April.  So it's a totally pointless announcement.

Even if they drafted a new QB and started him day one, I wouldn’t be expecting anything this year.  The defense needs more of an overhaul than they can do in one offseason.  Whether the QB of the future is on the roster this year or not until 2020 barely matters.
