there’s no guarantee the recruitment will be any better.

Then the recruitment process needs evaluating also. The whole structure of the football side of the club needs looking at because it's clearly not working, on any level, from top to bottom, both on and off the pitch. They're not recruiting players with any vision of what they need or how they want to play football. They've spent years massively overpaying for average players who they are eventually going to have to take massive losses on, which suggests the scouting is not right at the very basic of levels. They're not coaching the players to the appropriate level either because no one is improving, a number of players could be argued are worse than when they signed. There is still no particular vision or philosophy to their tactics or play. The manager, who is woefully out of his depth (another recruitment foul up), evidently doesn't have the respect or the backing of the players, it shows in their efforts.

They need a manager who has a philosophy and a style of play, and they need a Director of Football who also has the same philosophy and style. They need to make it a long-term plan and they need to recruit players to fit that system now and then they need to scout players who will fit that same system in four years time.

Look at Liverpool, everyone knows Klopp's style and they've recruited players to fit his vision. Had to google who their DoF was because he's too busy working on players Liverpool will try and sign in 2022, rather than getting on TV and chasing official noodle partners. Look at the recruitment of the first team, signings from Hull, Charlton, Newcastle, Southampton etc. Gini Wijnaldum was a ghost when Newcastle played away from home, now he's a vital part of the World champions midfield. He's nowhere near to player of Pogba but I can guarantee you Klopp wouldn't swap them, because Gini does his role in the system, something Pogba wouldn't, which would undermine the whole team's performance levels.

They recognised traits in Andy Robertson that would fit the system, signed him from Hull at 23 for £8m and coached him to world class status inside a year. Probably the best left-back in the world. Bargain of the century. This is what can be done when there is an attention to detail and the whole club buys into an idea.

All that is before you even get into their medical department, which by all accounts is another area falling behind other clubs.

Hence Paul Pogba turning to his own medical people to determine his injury. The fact that Marcus Rashford had been playing with bone fragments floating around his foot says it all.

This is all very important - Alot of the clubs playing above the curve (ok, City, Liverpool and Leicester) aren't recruiting like a bunch of dweebs. Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Man Utd are papering over cracks and signing "names" without the product being about the club, it's way of playing and the philosophy - None of the top 7 should be looking at Cavani realistically unless they're looking for someone to sell their worth in shirts.

Can't see it happening as he's about 45 now, probably 23 stone and has scored about three goals in the last five years, but he does 'know the Man Utd way', reeks of nostalgia and he would be invaluable in counteracting Otamendi in the Upper Southwestern Buenos Aries milk sponsorship market.

Not even just that but FSG recruited Klopp for the same purpose. The same people who were part of Liverpool's "Transfer Committee" are doing the recruiting still. In conjunction with the work Klopp and his staff are doing.

United have a big Alex Ferguson shaped hole in their club and no idea/no interest in filling it.

The issue is, it’s not that there’s a Fergie shaped hole as much as the club hasn’t moved into the modern football arena since he left. Arsenal are much the same, albeit a little ahead of the curve than United are now.

Football clubs can’t have a manager that oversees everything anymore, they need a whole team that are in constant communication. From what I can tell, United have Ed Woodward and that’s about it and there’s no suggestion of altering the structure at all. The only thing I’ve seen lately is that they hired Neil Ashton to be a PR adviser to both Woodward and Joel Glazer to assist them with dealing with the media.

He's still got that bulldog like approach though. That never goes!

Wolves were probably the better side, but we only know how to win.

Mane is out injured with a muscle problem, but early reports are he will be back after the winter break, so only missing Southampton and West Ham. He was never playing the FA Cup game this weekend

He can go bollocks. Never gets injured for about three years and then does his hamstring in a double gameweek when I have him captained in FPL. Entire season has been a shitshow.

Three (the mobile company) will be Chelsea's main shirt sponsor from next season, replacing Yokohama Tyres.

Honestly, I couldn't believe it had already been 5 years since Yokohama first became the shirt sponsor. I would have guessed 3 years.

I suppose those CHAMPIONS > Shit > CHAMPIONS > Shit seasons must have warped my perception of time. :shifty:

Anyone know anything about Antero Henrique? United are apparently in talks to make him Director of Football.

Apparently he is meant to be a bit of a dick but he was at PSG when they signed the likes of Neymar and Mbappe but only lasted two seasons cause Leonardo went back to the club

Yeah I saw the reddit post that was supposedly detailing all of his fuck ups, but that was apparently taken from a twitter user whose handle was "Antero Henriques number 1 enemy" or something like that.

Kinda worried if he'll be a splash the cash kinda guy - I don't think that's what we need and we're seeing with the Bruno Fernandes transfer that there is a "Man Utd tax" that exists.
