Still can't work out whether Vinicius is going to become the world beater many think, or if he'll suffer for rarely having an end product. 

His assist for Isco was good, but he had a golden chance in an empty net after Benzema's header in the first half, and fell on his arse, inexplicably, and fell over again during the 2nd half after getting in behind the City defence. Can definitely see the potential there, but he won't last at Madrid playing like this. 

Also, I knew his La Liga record wasn't great this season, but I didn't think it was quite as bad as 1 goal and 1 assist in 17 appearances.

His showboating reminds me a bit of a young Ronaldo, but he doesn't seem to have the same kind of game intelligence even at that age. Saying that, loads of people said the same about Ronaldo so who knows.

You've just been caught at a weird transition period in the club tied in with a transfer ban. It's a weird limbo of its a Champions League team thats not good enough for the latter stages of the Champions League when matched against the "big boys". 

Smart investment in the summer in key areas over a season/two seasons and you'll probably  be back in the latter stages.

On the subject of investment, does anyone know roughly how going out in the CL 2nd Round equates financially to a Europa League run via finishing 3rd in your CL group?

Just curious if there's theoretically a financial argument (albeit an obtuse one) for finishing 3rd rather than 2nd in your group.

• Round of 16: €1,100,000
• Quarter-finals: €1,500,000
• Semi-finals: €2,400,000
• Losing finalist: €4,500,000
• Winners: €8,500,000

It has the Champions League listed as

• Round of 16: €9,500,000
• Quarter-finals: €10,500,000
• Semi-finals: €12,000,000
• Losing finalist: €15,000,000
• Winning the Final: €19,000,000

 

Basically you'd have to get to the final and lose to match getting the round of 16

Jose's lack of subs, and in particular his snub of Ndombele and Parrott tonight, was more about him than it was helping us to try and win the game. We're down to the bare bones, we were exhausted and 3-0 down and he refused to change it until the 78th minute...to make a point? I miss Poch.
