Luka is so insanely good. And he's only 20 years old? Mavs got lucky with him and hopefully Cuban can actually build a team around him.

As a longtime Mavs fan I'm excited, but also that the team somehow once more becomes incapable of filling the roster with top talent as was the case for most of Dirk's career.

Getting Porzingis is a good start, and he'll become better again as he becomes further removed from his injuries. And they've put down a strong core of talented role players who can all have great games every once in a while.

But the team does need that Jason Terry-esque presence who's a consistent '15 points every night guy' next to Luka's sheer brilliance

Luka being so good at such a young age is going to give us more opportunities to build around him.

But that was with Dirk too, he was 22 when he was dropping 22 a game with 9 rebounds and a block. It still took him till he was 27 before he got his first finals, he was 32 when they finally got that ring.

For some reason, despite the talent having been there for the past 20 years, Dallas remains a bit of an unpopular option amongst players, despite having a team and front office that people laud, and a city/state that has a perfect tax scheme for rich athletes. Nobody seems to really care about Texas, and prefer to go to South Beach or Long Beach instead, because there's a lot more glamour in LA, Miami, or lord forbid even New York where both teams are garbage.

Luka’s a more versatile player than Dirk, especially at this age.  That’s going to be appealing.  But even if it’s not, they have all the lessons from Dirk to better construct a team around Luka if we can’t land big name free agents.

Charles Barkley said dumb stuff, apologized for it, the reporter called him out on twitter, despite the convo being 'off the record' and is getting killed for eight year old racist/bigoted tweets.

Ahh yes the internet in 2019. It's so fun isn't it?

Interesting explanation.

You'd think they'd be nicknamed Beerville, or something like that.

Wat Misaka passed away yesterday at 95 years old. For those who don't know, he was the first non-white player in the Basketball Association of America, appearing for the Knicks in 3 games before the league turned into the NBA. He also won the NCAA championship in 1944 playing for Utah, and the NIT in 1947, serving two years in the army in between. Amazing man, with an amazing life. If anybody ever gets the chance, I highly recommend the documentary made about him.

Instead of re-sending, why don't the work on making the Eastern Conference teams better? I don't want to have the Lakers playing Philly in 'Conference Finals One' or whatever when we could be playing San Antonio or someone we actually have a rivalry with.

Since over half the teams in the NBA make the playoffs, the NBA season really starts in April, and rivalries are built in the playoffs. This helps make those regular season match-ups more heated.

It could turn out to be really short-sighted to do this when they should really be figuring out and fixing why flagship eastern franchises like the Knicks and Bulls are mediocre at best.

Also, the biggest money NBA Finals match-ups, as far as just teams go, is Celtics/Lakers, and if you end up with, say, and all Los Angeles (since everyone wants to play up the Clippers and I'm a homer) Finals because the Clippers beat the Celtics and the Lakers beat the Nets or whatever instead of Boston/LA, then how stupid do you look, because Clippers/Lakers isn't exciting to anyone.

The problem is bad ownerships in the East and a sport where, because one player can make such a difference, tanking is a proven strategy. Instead of a draft lottery, maybe you can have a consolation bracket for non-playoff teams and the winner of that gets the first pick, and lottery the rest, or award them somehow. Just changing who plays in the NBA Finals ain't gonna fix Jim Dolan.

Just reorganize the conferences like MLB and NFL.  It’s stupid at this point to have not done this.  You take your most storied rivals and you keep them in separate conferences so there’s still the possibility of a finals between them.  But you stick the Lakers in one conference and the Clippers in the other.  Dallas and Houston stay in one, San Antonio goes to the other or some combination of it.

As for the mid season tournament, that could be fun, and could be knocked out around the All Star break if it’s single elimination.  But they should get bold and give the winner an automatic bid into the playoffs.  Or, at least a play in against the 8 seed.

My favourite proposed system for drafting is Wins Earned After Eliminated.

So if you are eliminated from playoff contention in February you're home fans will still want you to win. But bad teams still have the best chance at getting a higher pick.

It happened in hockey a few years ago when Buffalo fans cheered every time they lost.

I also would like teams eliminated in the first round of the playoffs to be included in the draft lottery process.
