With Burrow to the Bengals feeling like a near-certainty, the Giants/Washington game this weekend will likely decide who gets Chase Young.  Both teams have beaten Miami this year but head to head records don’t matter in draft seeding, the tiebreaker is strength of schedule and Miami has played better teams.

I can’t ever in good conscience root against my team.  But man, losing Chase at the final hurdle to a division rival would hurt.

Fuck that.  I bleed green until I die.  But I know if the weird confluence of events work out and the Eagles make the playoffs, nothing will change.  Our offense will stay stagnant under Mike Groh, who had previously been fired by his own father.

I'm hoping we miss the playoffs, because fuck Mike Groh

The Lions could possibly get the #2 pick still. If they keep Quin and Patricia it wont matter because they'll fuck it up.

I expect they will both be back next year and it will just set the team back even further. Patricia is a fucking awful coach, he's every bit as bad as any of Millens hires. His scheme sucks, his coaching style is alienating good players, and apparently any good players we do have will be jettisoned because they dare have a voice in the locker room.

And Quin has just continuesd to outsmart himself with his drafting and personnel moves.

Yeah, no.  I won't be upset if the Giants lose by any stretch, if they lose I'll immediately be like "WOOOOO CHASE YOUNG!!!"  But the day I sit down and watch a game and openly root for the other team, let alone a division rival, is the day I turn in my fan card.

The team has serious, crippling weaknesses across at least six positions:

Tackle
Wide receiver (Giants fans are in denial about this, I like Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard but neither of them get any separation)
Edge rusher
Linebacker
Safety
Cornerback

The state of all of those positions are so bad right now that any of them can sink a team entirely on their own.  And most of those positions also have terrible 2020 free agent classes.

Not to mention they're led by a Duke QB who has committed a million turnovers, already has been injured, and if returns this week, could be 2-11 with losses to abysmal teams like the Jets, Lions, and Washington on his ledger.  It's fine to want to see what he can do with better pieces around him but nobody can tell me with a straight face that they're totally confident in him.

Bottom line - do I want Chase Young?  Of course.  But to think his presence would magically turn them into 2020's version of the Niners is ludicrous.  They have a million needs to fill even if they end up outside of the Chase range.  Shit, even if they are picking #2, if Miami offers up multiple first rounders I'd have to seriously think about it.  I'd also trade Barkley without hesitation because if he stays healthy next year and resembles his rookie year performance, he's going to want a cap-killing contract.  But I know that won't happen.

It's possible for bad teams to turn around in one offseason, but not one as broken as this team.

See this is why I think it's laughable when fans, writers, et al. rejoice that their team loses games to "improve" their draft position. Like the Giants, I'm not in any way a NY fan but good for the team to get Eli that win - I think that does far more for a franchise moving forward than moving up or down a pick.

Yeah, there is no way I could root against the Cards for any reason. I was embarrassed we ended up with the #1 pick last year, even if it did give us Kyler.

Maybe it's because I'm British and rooting against your own team is just massively alien to us, we don't have the franchise system or Drafts to balance leagues in our sports, but yeah. I relish every win and get angry/frustrated/sad at every defeat.

Also, I am surprised by how bad the Lions have been. Didn't see them as a bottom 5 team at the start of the year.

No sorry you’re going to the playoffs so we can fire Garrett.

And I’d much rather have the Skins get Chase Young.  The Giants have shown themselves to be capable of putting together good defenses.

Giants need adequate coaching before we draft another great player and ruin them. Our OL was solid on paper but when you have an OL coach in Hal Hunter having them all regress then we're just taking two steps back. I still have no idea why we hired him based off his resume and we're wasting Barkley because of it.

As much as I've somewhat enjoyed watching  the Giants (and Redskins) suck, I do not like seeing divisions that aren't competitive, where you've got one or two teams dominating. If the Patriots were not the only consistently good team in the AFC East, they might not have even half the playoff and Super Bowl appearances they do, but when the Bills fluctuate and the other teams stink more often than not....

Of course, I won't argue that with a Patriots fan. Because they wouldn't let something important like facts get in the way of arguing how great the team is.

I'd like to see the Giants get back to being good. The Redskins, on the other hand, can continue to be crap until the day Dan Snyder is no longer their owner.

At the end of the day, you still have to get past all these good teams to get to (win) the Super Bowl.  Yeah it's a mostly trash division - but they still have to get past Pittsburgh, Denver/Indy, Baltimore, KC, etc...

And it's a rotation as to the ok team in the East.  It's the Bills turn now.

I remember being so critical of the Patricia hire. Poor VP had so much optimism. I hate what they’ve done to you, VP. :(

I wanted to give it a chance but he's really bad.

I honestly don't see how they can improve next year. Stafford stays healthy and the run game suddenly becomes great is our only hope. His bend don't break defense will not work. And even if it could work we have very little talent on the defensive side of the ball. It needs more than an off-season to fix.

The firing of Jim Caldwell was idiotic, the hiring of Matt Patricia was somehow even more idiotic.

It's telling that the Pats D immediately became amazing the minute he left Foxboro.

I don't think Caldwell was going to take us any further but his players loved him and played their ass off for him. Plus, he's a good man where as Patricia is possibly a sex criminal and kind of a fucking twat in general.

It's hard to sell players on the new boss when the old boss was loved and also had them in playoff contention. Like, if they went 3-13 and canned him the players would feel like they let their coach down. But firing him after a 9 win season just has to be deflating.

Pro Bowl selections are out. Cards have Chandler Jones and Budda Baker deservedly selected as starters. Zane Gonzalez, Dennis Gardeck and Kyler Murray are alternates.

Ravens dominate with 12 selections, and I think on a glance the only teams with no representation are the Dolphins and the Giants.

Technically the Giants are the only team with completely zero representation since Minkah Fitzpatrick played a couple of games with the Dolphins.  Even the lowly Bengals got a representative, although no surprises that it's Geno Atkins...the same defensive tackles and offensive linemen go pretty much every year.
