Netflix UK has set a May premiere date for the much anticipated ‘Snowpiercer’ tv series the streaming service has announced.

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centres on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly (‘A Beautiful Mind’, and the upcoming ‘Top Gun: Maverick’) and Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs (‘Black-ish’, ‘The Get Down’) lead the cast which also includes Alison Wright (‘The Accountant’), Mickey Sumner (‘American Made’), Katie McGuinness (‘Dirty Filthy Love’), Susan Park (‘Ghostbusters’), Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee Lena Hall (‘All My Children’), Annalise Basso (‘Bedtime Stories’), Sam Otto (‘Jellyfish’), Sheila Vand (‘Argo’), Roberto Urbina (‘Narcos’) and Sasha Frolova (‘The Interestings’).

‘Snowpiercer’ is produced by Tomorrow Studios (a joint venture between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios), along with CJ Entertainment, who produced the original film. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein (‘Cowboy Bebop’, ‘Hanna’, ‘Prison Break’) and Becky Clements (‘Aquarius’, ‘Last Man Standing’); showrunner Graeme Manson (‘Orphan Black’), who wrote the first episode; director James Hawes (‘The Alienist’, ‘Black Mirror’); Matthew O’Connor (‘Continuum’, ‘Tin Man’); Scott Derrickson (‘Sinister’, ‘Doctor Strange’), and the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Tae-sung Jeong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi.

The series, which airs a couple of days earlier on TNT in the US, has already been renewed for a 2nd Season by the network.

‘Snowpiercer’ Season 1 premieres weekly from 25th May 2020 on Netflix UK and internationally. If you’re in the USA, you will find the drama on TNT from May 17, 2020.

Haven't they turned it into a cop show or something?

Not really. Daveed Diggs is investigating a murder on the train, but there's other unrelated subplots that will probably turn out not to be unrelated.

It seems to be more about exploring the whole caste system and what people have had to do to move forward.

Yeah, it was an interesting premiere, but after just watching Snowpiercer the night before in preparation, I'm intrigued how they go about it considering how the movie ended (I have no idea whether either follows the plotlines of the comic).

Daveed Diggs is fucking fantastic, though, I'll watch him in just about anything.
