If there's evidence that they cheated in the world series, why can't they take the world series win away?

What sort of actual punishment would deter them and other teams from doing the same thing?

Taking away stuff that’s already happened is largely pointless.  The fans and players will always have those memories of having experienced it.

The best punishments would be for moving forward.  Maybe a postseason ban for X amount of years and allowing players to opt out of their contracts immediately if they want to go somewhere where they can win a title.

It could be an effective death blow to the franchise.

MLB is way too far up their own ass when it comes to its history to have a vacant World Series champion in their record books. And no, GhostMachine, before you suggest it, they shouldn’t just award it to the Dodgers for losing to them in the Series.

As for what they could do, one of the best and most reasonable and easily enforceable suggestions is a two-year postseason ban for those teams that qualify. Should you be a team like Baltimore or Miami, then you turn to forfeiture of first and second and maybe third round draft picks and a fine that would make Peter Angelos shit tears.

I wouldn't even suggest that at all. What's done is done. Just punish the hell out of them so they think twice about ever doing it again.

The Braves have signed Will Smith to a 3-year $39 million deal with a team option for the 4th year at another $13 million. Gettin' jiggy wit it.

Also Jake Odorizzi accepted the Twins qualifying offer and Jose Abreu accepted the White Sox's QO.

Madison Bumgarner, Gerrit Cole, Marcell Ozuna, Anthony Rendon, Stephen Strasburg, and Zack Wheeler all declined their QO's.

There’s thinking that Cora and Beltran might get fined rather than suspended so as to not punish the Red Sox or Mets who weren’t involved at all.

That would make sense, as long as its a heavy fine. Like at least 25 percent of their salary next season.

Yeah I think it's definitely Schilling's turn. Walker, maybe (hopefully) Rolen. Jeter is obviously going to be close to or unanimous.

And, hey, maybe the voters will finally get their heads out of their asses and induct at the least Bonds and Clemens!

Don Mattingly and Lou Whitaker out of the Veterans Committee since they can't be trusted to induct Marvin Miller despite his enormous, lasting influence on the game.

If Mattingly goes in, then Keith Hernandez needs to go in too.

Hernandez has a higher WAR in his peak years but Mattingly's career numbers peg him above all the normal HoF metrics (he's at like 134 on the Hall of Fame Monitor which James ranks as a virtual lock) whereas Hernandez is below HoF on all those metrics. The thing that voters used to hold against a guy like Mattingly (longevity) is increasingly less of an issue since people are increasingly aware of the dreaded "compilers".
