R.I.P Neil Peart

Rolling Stone reports that Rush drummer Neil Peart passed away last Tuesday at age 67. The cause was a brain tumor. He had been battling brain cancer for the last three-and-a-half years.

Damn. I must have missed the news he was ill, so this was a big surprise. Rush had some good tracks.

And so that will be why I didn't hear, then. I know Rush hadn't been doing anything for a while, and I suppose this was probably a big reason for that.

He announced his retirement in 2015 due to health issues in an interview. Initially Geddy Lee claimed that Peart was misquoted and that he was taking a break. However in 2018 Alex Lifeson confirmed that Rush were officially done.

Rush was not my favorite band, but Neil Peart was my favorite drummer. Sad news.

I often listen to this just because its an example of sheer drumming perfection (though its tied with Distant Early Warning for my favorite Rush song):

I don't know Rush that well but he was an excellent drummer. Very versatile. I've watched a load of videos of him just showing off and they're lots of fun. Sad news.
