New patch is out.

They've added some new Argent Tourney dailies, and one is kill 15 Cult of the Damned....and it gives 3 champion's seals, if I remember right.

(Easy as hell, because there's now a new Cult of the Damned area fairly close to the tourney grounds)

So, the faction restriction on PVP realms has been lifted in anticipation of the release of the Faction Change service. Two things:

1. Does this mean the Faction Change service is coming soon? Within the month?

2. You'd have thought that with this, they would've allowed you to transfer toons of opposite factions onto PVP servers with each other, but nope. I tried transferring my 40 Nelf Druid to Maelstrom with my Horde toons, and I got the standard "raghhhh you have characters of the opposite faction on that server you can't do that!" message. Gaaaaayyy. hopefully they change that before Faction Change comes out, but I bet it'll be changed when it comes out and not before.

So, I've been running heroic Trial of Champions since it came out for that sweet, sweet 2h Axe the Edge of Ruin. Tonight I get a PUG group and the first thing I say is "I'm here for the Edge of Ruin, okay?" everyone else says "oh I'm just here for [some other loot] or [for badges]". Cool.

So..

Edge of Ruin drops. The shaman congratulates me. The other ret paladin congratulates me.

The prot warrior wins the roll. Doesn't say a word to me. No "oops, did you want that?" No "fury/arms is my main spec", nothing. God

damn.

I armoried the guy later and he was mainspecced for tanking, offspec fury dps. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

So, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm details may've been leaked. Boubouille (the MMO-champion founder) is fairly connected with Blizzard, so I wouldn't dismiss it all as just rumors and shit right now. One of the most interesting things in these leaks is that the level cap is only 85, not 90; and that rather than new classes, there's new class/race combos such as Human Hunters, Blood Elf Warriors, etc.

EDIT: Also lending a little credibility is that Blizzard's been deleting posts on the official forums talking about this or even linking to MMO-Champion. We'll see when Blizzcon comes around, eh?

EDIT II: "Durotar is wrecked and apparently Orgrimmar could be destroyed. A new Orc city is rebuilt over the course of the expansion." cool.

3 things I read after following that link that I want to comment on:

1. Dwarf Shaman makes no freakin' sense! Wouldn't giving the Shaman class to the Night Elves be more believable?

2. The new races look interesting, but I'm guessing that

Worgens

won't be able to be Druids.

and

3.

If Garrosh declaring war against the Alliance when Thrall hands over leadership of the Horde means all servers essentially become PvP servers, I'll be cancelling my account faster than you can say "MOTHERFUCKER!" (I'm already planning on trying out Champions Online, but paying for it with Time Cards while I maintain my WoW subscription)

And sorry about what happened with the axe, Cloudy. That's one sweet weapon. I want the True-Aim Long Rifle and Marrowstrike from the heroic ToC.

1. Dwarf Shaman makes no freakin' sense! Wouldn't giving the Shaman class to the Night Elves be more believable?

Wildhammer Clan. There's already dwarf shamans in the game - they're Wildhammer Clan NPCs. The Wildhammer Clan's even known for being "feral, shamanistic and in touch with nature".

And I really doubt that they'll do away with PVE servers simply because Garrosh declares open war. Warhammer Online is, iirc, centered around a huge freakin' faction conflict and even they have PVE servers.

D'oh! I forgot all about the Wildhammers! *slaps forehead*

I may end up deleting one of the alts I rarely use - probably my Orc Warrior, since the only Horde character I use on my main server is a BE Mage, and making a Worgen once the expansion hits. (I have a Tauren DK on an RP server (The Steamwheedle Cartel), but I actually haven't logged him on since 3.2 hit except to fix his talent points, and I have a Forsaken Rogue on a different PvE server but have more or less abandoned him because the server he is on (Aggramar) sucks)

Wonder if the expansion will mean there will actually be some use for the unaccessable airstrip in Dun Morogh, finally?

And I'm all for more battle zones like Wintergrasp. I freakin' love doing Wintergrasp, since the lame other side wins due to lag after the other side already won crap doesn't seem to happen much any more.

They either need to up the Honor cap or add some new items. Seriously.

Interesting article on IGN about the history of WoW, starting with Blizzard's founding and Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.

EDIT: Cataclym officially announced. From the wow.com liveblog:

12:09PM showing zones destroyed in lava. Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms. The Barrens full of canyons of lava

12:08PM As the terrible war against the Lich King continues, the defenders of Azeroth fight to secure a lasting peace. But there can be no peace when the world itself is devoured by rain.

EDIT II: Sounds like all the rumors were true. FUCK YES, Blood Elf Warriors.

From MMO Champion:

World of Warcraft - Cataclysm Preview Panel

Below is a small recap of what was said during the Cataclysm Preview panel, I'm still working on organizing the information to make it more readable. Pictures should be available shortly as well.

Quote from Blizzard staff

General

Level cap will be 85 because developers wanted to focus on the right things: redoing Azeroth and providing more end-game content.

A new guild advancement system will let you earn guild perks and level a guild through 20 levels with points to spend in a talent tree. You will access abilities such as cheaper repairs, less durability loss on wipes, or mass resurection.

Phasing can now add and remove terrain based on your progress. Coasts will be progressively more flooded depending on how far you are in a storyline for example.

Path of the Titans

Talent trees won't be extended, you will just get 5 more talent points.

The Path of the Titans will let players follow a path (not restricted to classes), this is a new talent system with new skills and passive abilities.

A mastery system is being added as well, a lot of talents will be reworked to be more fun. The point is to get rid of a lot of the talent skills and not make you spend all your points in a talent tree just because it gives you more damage or higher crit chance.

Archeology

Archeology is a new secondary profession, not many details about this one but we'll probably hear more about it in future panels.

Deathwing

Deathwing, the leader of the Black Dragonflight will be the main vilain of the expansion.

Deathwing heard the whispers of the Old Gods after the arrival of the Burning Legion, he eventually grew very powerful and also became very very crazy.

His plan was to catch the Alliance and Horde unaware with something so massive that it would bring up the Elemental Planes.

The Elemental Planes were created by titans to contain the elementals, they weren't happy with this decision and some of them like Ragnaros got really angry.

New races - Worgens

Other races were discussed for the alliance, but the developers really felt that the alliance needed a monstrous race and horde needed something fun and tiny.

Genn Greymane closed the Greymane Wall to block the Scourge's plague. Gilneas got nervous as the Scourge progressed to the south.

Arugal was a patriot, he called the Worgens to battle for Gilneas but eventually was surprised by how dangerous what he called down was.

Worgens are from somewhere else ... or even someWHEN else. They have a wolverine temperament and spent a lot of time trying to contain the beast within.

One of the Worgen racial will be Dark Flight, a short duration sprint

New Races - Goblins

Goblins are a technological race from Kezan, their society is broken up into trade cartels run by trade princes. They are new factions and not the ones you can already see in game.

The Cataclysm hit Kezan really hard and it's possibly destroyed. The goblins are now refugees on the Lost Isles.

As a goblin you start as a neutral cartel and eventually join the horde as you progress through the questlines.

Racial - Rocket Belt will have multiple functionnalities, you can use it to launch yourself forward or launch rockets at targets.

The World

Azeroth is now flyable. Pretty much all the zones will be changed to some extent, some of them like Elwynn Forest won't change too much but others like The Barrens will be sundered in two by Deathwing.

The Wailing Caverns are now a lush and verdant Area.

Desolace now has a lot more waters and a lot of plants can be seen in the screenshots.

The Horde finally conquered Southshore.

Auberdine was destroyed and the night elves have set up a new camp north of it. Garrosh wants to expand the horde and has built a fortified camp at the south of the zone.

Stonetalon has been cleaned by the Goblins, Azshara will be the new Goblin zone, and are using quarries in the mountains of Azshara to build their town.

We all left a little part of ourselves in Northrend and the old world will be much darker than it was to make heroism and brotherhood more meaningful like Warcraft should be.

Every zones will be revamped with new quests, items, and art. The old world will be a brand new experience and you won't have to deal with the annoying agility/spirit quest rewards anymore.

7 new zones will be added : Twilight Highlands, Mount Hyjal, Deepholm, Uldum, Gilneas, The Lost Isles, Sunken City of Vash'jir.

The Worgens and Goblins starting zone level goes from 1 to 15.

Sunken City of Vashj'ir will be an underwater zone and was the home city of Lady Vashj before the original sundering, this is a gateway to the Abyssal Maw. Going through the Abyssal Maw will take you to the Elemental Plane of Water, even if the zone will be underwater you will be walking on the sea floor here, new underwater mounts will be available and should have the same speed as normal flying mounts.

Deepholm will be the new hub of the expansion, you will have portals here to let you teleport to Hyjal, Uldum, etc ... The Twilight's Hammer now serves Deathwing and have brought him back to full health in the Temple of Earth at the center of the map.

Uldum will have at least two dungeons and is heavily inspired from Egypt. The sea at the west of Tanaris was just an illusion created by the Titan and Uldum is actually a brand new zone. It is rumored to hold a super weapon. Uldum is also the home of the Tolvir, a race of stone-like cats created by the titans.

Ragnaros used the cataclysm to come back from the Plane of Fire where we sent him and his now sieging the World Tree in Mount Hyjal to burn it down. Malfurion is back from the Emerald Dream. The whole zone (Hyjal) will make extensive use of phasing.

Twilight Highlands will feature Grim Batol,

Apparently Orgrimmar will be rebuilt and reinforced with steel, it now looks a lot like Garrosh strongholds...

Undercity has been redesigned to be flyable, it now looks much more impressive from the outside.

Deepholm isn't really connected to Azeroth, the connection is where Deathwing

The Twilight Highlands will feature Grim Batol, Deathwing literally broke open Grim Batol as he emerged from the ground. This is the new Twilight's Hammer base in Azeroth and both Horde and Alliance will have a new port town with boats here. The Red Dragonflight is still here but has been pushed back to the west of the zone near the Wetlands.

Dungeons & Raids

The Firelands will be a new raid dungeon, it will let you go to the Elemental Plane of fire and visit Sulfuron's Keep, Ragnaros will be here and he's really pissed.

Uldum will feature two new dungeons, the Lost City of Tol'vir and the Halls of Origination (a titan city)

Grim Batol will have a level-up dungeon and a raid instance.

Skywall (Air Elemental Plane) will have a level-up dungeon and a raid instance.

The Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep will be back in a brand new level 85 heroic version.

Blackrock Caverns will be a new level-up dungeon located in Blackrock Spire. This is an entirely new dungeon, new art, new creatures, new everything.

Player vs. Player

Battle of Gilneas will be a new battleground where the objective is to control the city by controlling as many districts as possible.

Tol'barad will be a new PvP zone and will also be the most important daily quest hub. Just like Wintergrasp a battle will happen every few hours and the winning side will get access to the Tol'barad Prison and extra daily quests, the really profitable ones.

Rated battlegrounds will be added to the game and should get you the same rewards as Arenas.

New arena maps will be added.

I've got to say, I'm liking the look of things. I've been wanting more from Gilneas for a while now. Definitely gonna role a Worgen when I get this. Can you imagine how bad ass a Death Knight Worgen is going to be?

The new look of Orgrimmar, imo, only lends credence to the leak that..

Thrall's going to hand the Horde over to Garrosh, either to serve on the Council of Tirisfal or to become the new Guardian.

I've been reading the comic (which I believe is somewhat canonical) and it is certainly hinting in that direction.

I ordered the Blizzcon webcast, and I can fill you in on a few other things:

Goblins: Can be any class except Druids and Paladins. Yes, that means there will be Goblin Shamans running around.

Racial mount is a car. Goblins get a bonus to Alchemy skill, and their racial ability is a rocket belt that can be used every 2 minutes and has two different abilities: a speed boost (at one of the con panels, the ability was described as a reverge-Disengage) or rockets fired at enemies. Goblins will also be able summon a "pack hobgoblin" every 30 minutes that gives them bank access. Also have a permanent 1% bonus to attack and casting speed.

Worgen: Can be any class except Paladins and Shamans. Worgen get two forms: a regular human form and a Worgen form. The human form is basically just for standing around; they automatically switch to Worgen form when entering combat, or using one of their racial abilities. Darkflight lets Worgen increase their speed by 70% and can be used every 3 minutes, and it causes them to switch to Worgen form if not already in it. They get a permanent 1% bonus to damage, and curses and diseases have reduced duration on them. They get a bonus to Skinning and can skin faster than other races (hasn't been confirmed, but its rumored they won't need to carry skinning knives, due to having claws in Worgen form, but I doubt it). I missed part of the panel and haven't watched a replay yet, so I have no idea what their racial mount is, or if they even revealed that yet.

Hunter and Warlock classes are being altered:

Hunters will no longer use mana, but will have something called focus, which works sort of like energy for rogues and feral druids. Steady Shot will cause focus regen to double. Aspect of Viper will be changed to something entirely different or done away with. Ammunition is being changed to be an equippable item that isn't consumed! (YAY! I am fucking tired of buying Saronite Razorheads)

The way Warlocks use soul shards will be changed. Soul shards won't be inventory items (making soul bags useless, I assume), but will be shown below the Warlock's health and mana bars. Soul Shards will only be consumed when using a new ability called Soul Burn, which affects the way other Warlock spells and abilities work. (For instance, using it with Fear or demon summoning, it makes them instant cast)

I saw previews of how some of the areas are going to look after Cataclysm, and the Barrens is going to look freakin' awesome!

(I already plan on making a Worgen (no idea what class, but won't be a Druid), but I'm seriously considering making a Tauren Paladin, even though I already have a Human one)
