The Comic Book Thread (spoilers)

I thought it sounded kind of interested and looking forward to quite a bit of the Marvel NOW books, especially Cable & The X-Force, All New X-Men, and Avengers Arena. People hated the New 52 idea at first, but those have been some excellent books and I think it is worth giving these a try at least.

No thanks on Avengers Arena. 0% interest.

I might give the X-Men book where the original five travel forward in time a shot, maybe, because I quite like the concept but on the other hand it's Brian Michael Bendis and not a street-level superhero comic, and I've never liked him writing anything outside of that.

I'll give Cable & X-Force a go and probably the X-Men one that you're talking about GoGo.

As with the new lineup for Thunderbolts, the new lineup for the relaunch of Uncanny X-Force has me :/

In good news though, I just won an Ebay auction for Uncanny X-Force 2-18, including the 5.1 for 50$ shipped. I dunno how that happened but I'm not complaining.

Marvel has permadeath for 90% of new characters, because they figure nobody's that attached to them anyway. Ain't nobody who died from New X-Men come back.

We’ve teased Batgirl: Spoiled, the fan-produced webseries, on Robot 6 and Comic Book Resources since early August — and now, two months later, the first episode has at last debuted online.

Created by Sax Carr and Marisha Ray (who also plays Batgirl), the series follows Stephanie Brown as she fights crime and tries to determine whether this life of “adrenaline and danger, duty and honor” is one she really wants. As the earlier trailer teased, Batgirl: Spoiled features a large supporting cast that includes such DC Comics characters as Commissioner Gordon, Batwoman, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, The Penguin and Oracle (those last two appear in the first episode, “Blindside,” along with a third whom I won’t spoil here).

The second episode will be released in about 30 days; the producers are hoping to find a convention to play host to its premiere.

One thing I wish they'd stop is their habit of killing off a big name just to mark out an event as "serious business". It usually achieves nothing other than a *gasp* from the other characters and the story moves on like it needn't have happened. Later of course they will often bring them back (like Hawkeye) - which is good, but merely serves to highlight the farce of it all to begin with.

Basically this is me saying I want Wasp back.

Yeah, I agree on that being bullshit. Wasp's death was relevant to Henry Pym over in Avengers Academy and thaaaaat's about it.

Oh, and The Defenders (new launch) has Superheroes in it, but certainly isn't written like a true superhero book. It's one of my top few favorites at the moment.

You're gonna hate me when I tell you it's been cancelled then

Speaking of permadeath in X-Men (A vs. X fallout and Uncanny Avengers 1 spoiler):

In issue 1 of Uncanny Avengers a group of villains stole the body of Charles Xavier and the very last page reveals they are lead by Red Skull who has removed X's brain from his corpse and is holding it up in the air. Kind of fucked up

Nah, I knew it was coming (announced in August) but in the same article I read that news in I was intrigued by Allred doing the new FF book. Loved him with Madman.

So I'm considering ditching my current comic store of choice. They forgot FIVE comics in my pull list. It might be a little long, but I swear, I'm going to walk in to that store the next time I buy comics with a full listing of what they left out from the previous time I was in there, and what I should be getting currently.

Probably should just type up a new pull list of the series that I absolutely need to read, and leave off the ones that I don't care about.

I check mine on the 1st (or first weekend) of every month. Makes things much easier. I also check my stuff before I go so that I have the last # of each series I have in my pull box and then see if the right one(s) are included when I hit the store. Since everything in my list right now has been going for over 3 months, they can't really be shady about it (they aren't anyways, but still) and make the fix quickly. They've only missed on random times so I know it's just regular error when sorting the issues as they come in.

I hate that I usually like stuff that either gets cancelled (Defenders, more than once despite being one of the better books each time it's been in circulation), the LEGION books from DC ... been like that forever it seems.

Also, it sucks that Brubaker will be gone from Winter Soldier after #14 (LINK) ... he's done a fantastic job with it. Thankfully the series will run for a while considering the second Captain America movie and all (although the book was nearly cancelled). I just fear for the book when he's gone. Brubaker has set a fantastic tone and really leaves some big shoes to fill with it. Jason Latour will take over ... I'm only aware of one thing he's written. Lovely.
