I don't know if it was purposeful or not, but the mention about the Haas brothers being like the Harts was brilliant. If this were an actual novel, I would consider that to be representitve of Owen & Russ' death, especially the "which one of us would have Bret's success?" line.

Although it probably wasn't even meant to be that way, I thought it was a very good piece of writing, and the rest of it is just as good. I'm looking forward to seeing more entries with this, especially now that you have to work your way back up from the indies.

Keep it up, dude, it looks very promising. (Y)

Sunday, January 7th, 2001

The next day, at around 12:30, I was looking for some food to eat, and the phone rang. I walked over to it and lifted the phone off the base.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Charlie? This is John Corso. Sorry I didn't answer your call, I was in a meeting. We were talking about you and Russ's releases from the WWF."

"You were?"

"Yeah, we were thinking about bringing you two back to CZW. What do you say?"

"Well, I'm glad I didn't have to be the one to ask. That's exactly what I called about. But there's just one problem."

"What is it?"

"It's Russ. He's taking a bit of a break from the business, and he told me I'd be the first one he calls when he makes his decision to come back. So if you bring me back, there's no Russ for now."

"Oh, that's a shame. He's got a lot of talent, that kid. You and him could end up like the Road Warriors of the new millenium. But, yeah, whatever, we have an agreement?"

"Yeah, thanks alot man. When should I report to Philadelphia?"

"We've got a show next Saturday, so if you could be there by Thursday, that'd be great."

"Alright, I'll be there on Thursday."

"OK, thanks, and Charlie?"

"Yeah?"

"If Russ decides to come back, tell him to call me."

"Alright. Thanks for this, John."

"Anytime. OK, goodbye."

We both hung up. After hanging up, I picked up the phone again and dialed Russ's number. He picked up after two rings.

"Hello?"

"Russ, it's Charlie."

"Oh, how are you doing?"

"I'm doing good, but guess who I just got off the phone with."

"Who?"

"John Corso from CZW. They've got me set for a return next Saturday in Philadelphia."

"Oh." Russ sounded a little disappointed.

"Yeah, he wanted me to tell you that if you decide to come back, he wanted you to call him and tell him so he can set up a return for you."

"Really? That's good, at least I know I have a secure option."

"Yeah, well I gotta go, I'll be in Philly starting on Thursday so you'll have to call my cell phone. OK, bye Russ."

We hung up and I began to think about my choice. I logged onto my computer in the other room and went on the Internet. I typed in a wrestling news site and went to it. I clicked on an article that read "WWF, NJPW Signings" and began to read.

Pretty interesting. I'm going to like watching how you handle Charlie in CZW, as well as Russ if he decides to join as well. For some reason, I have a feeling that Russ will gain some resentment towards Charlie as he moves on to bigger and better things, but maybe that's just me. I'm usually wrong about these things anyway.

No disrespect to the deceased, but I think it will be a very focal point in this diary if you do decide to go on with Russ's death. I don't think it is necessary to do so (as your whole motto is a story re-written, after all), but if you do decide to do so it will really be a challenge to your writing ability. Hopefully you make it that far in the diary, as I see this having a lot of potential in being one of the better diaries in the Dome.

Good job. (Y)

I arrived in Philadelphia this morning by plane at around 1 PM, got my rental car at about 2, and I was set to drive to CZW headquarters in Philadelphia. I arrived at the building and walked inside. There was a secretary at the desk. She looked in her twenties, with long blond hair.

"Hello, can I help you?"

"Yeah, I'm looking for John Corso's office?"

"It's upstairs, the third room on the right."

I followed her directions and came upon a door that said "The Boss," and then the CZW logo underneath it, followed by "John Zandig" below that. I knocked on the door and I heard a voice tell me to come in from inside. I turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. Inside was just the man I wanted to see. John was sitting at a nice little desk, in a small office.

"Just the man I wanted to see! Take a seat, Charlie. We've got business to discuss."

I closed the door and pulled up a chair in front of the desk.

"Well, I've been thinking about your position in this company for the last few days. I've decided that you're gonna be wrestling around the midcard for now, we've got our solidified main eventers. But I want you to choose your disposition. Do you wanna be a face, or a heel? I have plans for you either way, it's your decision."

"Hmm...well it looks like we need a few more faces, so I'll be a face."

"Alright, well in this case, how would you feel about debuting this Saturday in a tag team match with Joey Matthews as his mystery partner? You and Matthews will be up against the Backseat Boyz, Trent and Johnny, and it's a CZW Tag Team Title match. You wanna do that?"

"I'm not really sure, John. I've never really teamed with anyone besides Russ before."

"Well now's a good time to start, because Russ isn't around anymore. He may not ever return to the business, you should start learning chemistry with other people. Matthews is a tag team specialist, like you, so I think you two might be able to work a few matches."

"Hmm...fine I'll try it. So I'll be there on Saturday, and I'll tag with Matthews against Acid and Kashmere. Thanks again John, I hope this will benefit both of us." I said as I got up out of my chair and extended my hand.

"Anytime Charlie. You're always welcome in CZW." He said, accepting my handshake.

I walked out the door and out to my car. I drove to my hotel just outside of Philadelphia and checked in. After I got to my room, I laid down on the bed and I got a call on my cell phone. My caller ID read Russ's number. I picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hey Charlie, it's Russ. I was just wondering how the day went."

"It went good, I went to John's office today. We had a talk about my place on the roster. I'm gonna be at the show on Saturday in a tag match for the CZW Tag Team Titles with Joey Matthews against the Backseat Boyz."

"Oh...you're in a..tag match?" Russ sounded very let down by that.

"Yeah, I know, it's gonna be tough without my brother there, heh, but I'm gonna go through with it."

"Oh, well Mom and Dad told me to tell you they said good luck."

"Tell them I said thanks a lot."

"I will. Well listen, I gotta go, I'm about to go out to eat with the family. I'll call you either later or tomorrow. Bye."

"Bye."

I hung up the phone, and I grabbed the remote control that was on the nighttable next to my bed. I began to go through the channels until I found something interesting. This wouldn't be for a few minutes, until I turned on WWF Smackdown on UPN. I would watch that for the next hour, before I drifted off to sleep.

Haas to CZW?

by The Man

There is news circulating around the wrestling world that former WWF developmental talent Charlie Haas is going to be signing with Combat Zone Wrestling and will appear on Saturday at CZW's next show, Crushing the Competition. No one is sure whether Haas will be appearing in a singles or tag team role, because his brother, Russ Haas, did not sign with the company as of yet. There is no word on whether he will be used in a babyface or a heel role, but the last thing CZW needs right now is another heel, so he'll probably be used as a face.

Charlie and his brother Russ were both outstanding prospects on the Ohio Valley Wrestling roster until the WWF's massive roster cut of a few days ago. They were both released, along with most of the OVW roster at the time, and Haas is the first of the former WWF wrestlers to find work, having done it in only a week. He has appeared for CZW before, back in 2000, winning the CZW Tag Team Championships with his brother Russ. This man is looking to put himself on the map, and CZW may have been the right choice.

Until next time, this is The Man, telling you to stay tuned for my next article.

i like the article by the man, it was very well written and there was a clear difference between haas' diary and that, which was good.

i like russ calling once again, though i dont think its needed anymore, maybe that will be it for him for abit. for some reason i can sense a twist in the story where corso turns into an arse... but i shall have to wait and see. but at least your employed.

Saturday, January 13th, 2001

I arrived at the show in south Philadelphia at around 5 PM, two hours before the show was set to go off. I went to the main locker room, where the superstars would meet and talk before the show, and as I walked in there, only a few wrestlers were in there. I saw Super Crazy, Nick Berk, Jon Dahmer, and Trent Acid. I walked over to Acid and he looked up at me.

"So you're gonna be in the match tonight? You're gonna be Joey's partner?"

"Yeah, I don't really know if me and him are gonna work well together, so don't make us look too bad." I laughed as I explained that to him.

"We won't. We're out first, so I've gotta get ready. Good luck in the match later."

"Thanks alot, you too."

Later that night...

The show had begun and the music of the Backseat Boyz had hit. The ring announcer introduced Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere as they made their way out to the ring to some heat from the crowd. I made my final preparations as I stood backstage, ready to walk out. Joey Matthews's music hit and he walked out to the ring to some cheers, but before he got in the ring, he got a microphone.

His words drifted in and out of my mind as I focused on my return.

"My partner is a former PCW Tag Team Champion...he's a former ECWA Tag Team Champion, he's a former Jersey All-Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champion, and tonight, he's going to become a two time CZW Tag Team Champion. He's been employed by the biggest company in the world, the World Wrestling Federation, and now, he's back here in Combat Zone Wrestling. My partner is none other...than Charlie Haas!"

My old CZW theme hit as the crowd gave a nice pop for me as I walked out from behind the curtain. I stopped before I walked down the aisle, and the crowd gave a little bit more of a cheer. The fans in the front row slapped my arms and back as I walked down the aisle. I walked around the ring, slapping fans' hands as I went by. I was glad they remembered me from my last stint here. I got in the ring and we went over our strategy.

"I'll start. I don't really know if you've fought these guys a lot, but I know that Acid hits hard with kicks and punches and things like that. Kashmere is more of a fundamentals-kinda guy." I said to Joey.

"Yeah, I know, and Acid's a pretty good high-flyer too, so watch out for that."

I stepped in towards the middle of the ring as the referee lifted the vacant CZW Tag Team Championships. He then handed them to someone on the outside of the ring and the bell was rung as Johnny Kashmere and I locked up. He locked in a side headlock, and I bounced off the ropes and sent him running to the other side of the ring. I ducked as he came back, making him hit the other side. I hit a hip toss, but he got right back up and I ducked an enzuigiri. We both got to our feet again and I blocked a punch, hitting a blow of my own. I took him down with a legsweep and I began to go to work on his knees. First, I locked in a knee bar, followed by dropping an elbow on the exposed knee area. After three elbows, I locked in a spinning toe hold, but Kashmere kicked me off into the ropes. I bounced back and was hit with a dropkick. He began to work over my shoulders and neck area with chokeholds and strikes. My neck was feelings sore as he whipped me into the ropes a minute or two later, but I came back with a running clothesline. That sent him over to his tag team partner, Trent Acid.

Acid entered the ring and he ran directly into an arm drag, after which I tagged out to my own partner, Joey Matthews. I handed Acid's arm over to Matthews, who kicked it fiercely. He then went after the back of Trent Acid. He applied a rear chinlock and drove his knee into Acid's back. I looked on as Matthews drove a forearm into the back of the opponent and lifted him back up. He locked in a rear waistlock, but Acid broke it and applied a waistlock of his own. He then released it and hit a standing dropkick to Matthews' back, knocking him straight through the ropes and out of the ring. Acid boasted in the ring, raising his arms. He walked over to the ropes and motioned that he was going for a high risk maneuver. He grabbed the ropes and used his arms to propel him over the ropes and out of the ring. However, Matthews moved, sending Acid straight down to the floor! Both men squirmed around on the floor, and Matthews rolled Acid into the ring, before sliding in after him. He covered, but only for a two count. After that, both men crawled over to their respective corners. Acid tagged in Kashmere, who attempted to grab Joey's leg before he could tag me, but he slapped my outstretched hand, and I was now in the match!

Kashmere ran backwards, not wanting a piece of me, but I hit him with a punch. I hit him with a flurry of forearms and punches, before Acid came up from behind me and kicked me directly in the back. I cringed in pain, and then Kashmere locked in a side headlock. He spun around and turned that move into a hammerlock. He spun my arm back around and Irish whipped me into the ropes. I held onto the ropes on the way back, causing him to miss a dropkick. I then walked over to Joey and tagged him back in.

I looked on as Matthews had a lot of momentum, hitting all kinds of moves. About three minutes later, Matthews whipped Kashmere into the ropes, but telegraphed a back body drop. Kashmere locked him in a front face lock and planted him with a DDT! Kashmere lifted him up, but Joey kept fighting. He hit a punch to Kashmere's gut, before bringing him over to our corner and making another quick tag. He locked in an arm wringer, and I delivered an elbow to Kashmere's twisted arm. Kashmere would quickly hit a legsweep, knocking me on my back, and he dragged me over so he could tag in his partner. Each man grabbed one of my legs, and split them apart, causing extreme pain in my lower body area.

Acid took control and tried to Irish whip me, but I reversed it, sending him into the ropes. He came back and was hit with a snap belly-to-belly suplex. I quickly capitalized and locked in a bow and arrow lock while he was down. Kashmere had to come in and break that up. I lifted up Acid and applied a reverse front facelock, and I dropped down, hitting a reverse DDT. I quickly ran over to his legs and locked in an STF! Before he could tap out, he was able to reach the ropes. I got off of him, dragged him to the middle of the ring, and locked in a Figure Four leglock! He screamed in pain as Kashmere ran in and stomped on my chest, prompting me to release the hold. Acid gained control and tried to go to the top rope. He jumped off, attempting a cross body, but I hit a standing dropkick to his chest! I lifted him up and hit an Exploder suplex, but only for a two count. After that, I tagged out to Joey.

Joey came in and immediately ran at the ropes and hit a springboard Moonsault off the second rope! He made the cover, but Trent somehow kicked out! Matthews lifted him up and whipped him into the ropes. He went for a back body drop, but Acid performed a front flip instead of landing on his back. He ran straight at me and knocked me off of the apron with a Yakuza Kick, before running up to Joey and hitting a low blow with the precision of an NFL kicker! Acid made the cover and the referee made the count for the 1, 2, 3! The Backseat Boyz are the CZW Tag Team Champions! They celebrated in the ring as Matthews clutched his lower abdomen and I was out on the floor.

CZW Crushing the Competition Results (01/13/01)

by The Man

1. MATCH: The Backseat Boyz def. Joey Matthews & Charlie Haas to win the vacant CZW Tag Team titles!

  • The three men made their entrances and this kicked off a very short show of only three matches.
  • Matthews grabbed a mic and said that his partner was a former tag team champion of four different promotions, and then introduced him to be Charlie Haas!
  • Haas got in the ring and started the match against Johnny Kashmere.
  • At the ten minute mark, Trent Acid attempted a plancha to the outside of the ring, but Matthews moved, sending Acid crashing to the floor!
  • Around fifteen minutes later, Haas hit a belly-to-belly suplex on Trent Acid, followed by locking in a Bow and Arrow lock!
  • After that was broken up, Haas locked in an STF, and then a Figure Four, but Acid did not give up.
  • Matthews would hit a Lionsault soon after, but only got a two.
  • The finish of the match came when Acid flipped over Matthews's back, hit a Yakuza Kick to Haas on the apron, turned around and nailed a low blow on Matthews for the win at the 37:00 mark and the Backseat Boyz are the new CZW Tag Team Champions!
2. MATCH: Super Crazy def. Ruckus
  • This was an excellent junior matchup.
  • Ruckus took it to the veteran early with lots of cartwheels and flips and acrobatics.
  • Ruckus hit a handspring moonsault plancha, nailing Crazy on the outside of the ring.
  • Crazy got back in the ring after Ruckus, and Ruckus went after him with hard kicks.
  • Later on, Crazy went for a moonsault, but Ruckus moved and Crazy landed on his face.
  • Crazy then got up and was hit with a jumping hurricanrana.
  • Close to the end of the match, Ruckus went for the Poetic Ruckus (450 Splash), but Super Crazy rolled out of the way!
  • Crazy jumped to the top rope with the speed of a cat and hit the Crazysault for the win!
3. MAIN EVENT: Yoshihiro Tajiri def. Red to win the vacant CZW World Heavyweight title!
  • This was an amazing match, with both men showing great focus and psychology.
  • The 18-year old Red gained control of the match early, hitting a head scissors. followed by a standing moonsault.
  • Tajiri used his stiff kicks to get the advantage, and he backed Red into a corner. Tajiri ran backwards, and then went for a handspring back elbow, but Red moved out of the way!
  • Tajiri bounced forward into a reverse STO by Red! That only got a two before Tajiri kicked out.
  • Red picked up the more experienced Tajiri and went for a DDT, but Tajiri took him down with nice legsweep.
  • Tajiri was looking for the Buzzsaw Kick, but Red ducked and took Tajiri's leg out from underneath him with his arm.
  • With cheetah-like quickness, Red stood up and went for the Red Star Press (Standing SSP), but Tajiri moved out of the way!
  • Late in the match, Red went for the Tiger Feint kick, which he calls the 718, but Tajiri ducked and when Red turned around, Tajiri spit red mist in his eyes!
  • With Red unable to see, he was easy pickings for Tajiri, who kicked him in the knee, getting him down to his knees, and hit a huge Buzzsaw kick! Tajiri picked up the win and is the NEW CZW World Heavyweight Champion!

It was a little long, but if you have the time, the longer, the better! Nice diary by the way, I have been following it, and it looks really good. I also like how you are writing the matches, and also writing the rest of the card!

Two nights after losing to the Backseat Boyz at Crushing the Competition, I decided to hit the gym. Sunday was my off day for all my soreness and things like that, where I mainly just stayed in my hotel room and rested. I set out for Ellis Athletic Center, the closest gym to the hotel. I drove down there in my rental car and got out. I entered the gym and I saw a few CZW wrestlers inside. Inside were Jon Figueroa (aka Red), Claude Marrow (Ruckus), and Joey Matthews. I walked over to Matthews, who was benching some weight. I laid down on the machine next to him and started to talk.

"Hey Joey."

"What's up Charlie?"

"Nothing. I see you decided to hit the gym too."

"Yeah."

"Well, since we're both here, we might as well get to know each other if we're gonna be tagging often."

"Yeah, and for the next show in Delaware we're each gonna be fighting one of the Backseat Boyz. I've got Johnny and you get Trent."

"Really? I haven't talked to Corso yet, so I didn't know that. But do we get another title shot in the near future? Or is there a stipulation, like, we have to win both matches to get a title shot?"

"I don't know, Johnny just told me yesterday about it, and our next show isn't until sometime next month. All I know is it's gonna be in Dover, Delaware and it's called Delaware Invasion."

"Oh."

"Yeah, well let's hope we get another title shot. A lot of people were telling me backstage that they thought me and you showed a lot of chemistry as a tag team."

"Really? I didn't re-watch the match, so I wouldn't really know. But I guess it makes sense, since we've both been in tag teams for a lot of our careers, and we don't have opposite styles."

"I guess you're right. But anyway, hopefully we can get some gold pretty soon. You aren't the only one trying to put yourself on the map."

"You're in ECW. I haven't got anything left besides CZW."

"Yeah, but I'm nowhere near any of the titles, they've got me as a curtain jerker with Jason* and we aren't near the Tag Titles. And then you gotta think about the tag division and how established they are. You've got Doring and Roadkill, the FBI, RVD & Sabu, Spike & Balls Mahoney, Mikey Whipwreck and Tajiri, the list goes on and on. I just don't think I'm ever gonna make it in ECW, so I want some more national exposure so maybe WCW or WWF will get some interest in me."

"That's exactly how I feel. I'm not sure if I wanna go back to the WWF though, I kinda wanna stick it to them by going to WCW. I'm not sure yet, though."

"I know what you mean. But listen, I gotta get back to my hotel, I gotta meet one of my old friends at a restaurant while I'm still in town. I'll talk to you another time."

He got up off the machine and walked out. I stayed there and began to bench press some weights. That's all for today.

Corino/Douglas, Hart/Cabana, Signings

by The Man

On his official website, Steve Corino called out Shane Douglas, saying "he was a bitch for leaving ECW for the shit promotion that is World Championship Wrestling", and that "he knew he couldn't hang with the big boys so he left town". Douglas has yet to respond.

Not only were the older guys going at it, but the younger ones were as well. Teddy Hart was quoted on a Calgary radio station as saying Colt Cabana "just plain sucks at wrestling." Cabana focuses on more of an old school style, while Hart works more of a high flying style. Again, the victim of the verbal attack has yet to respond.

WWF picked up a few new faces today, and they are looking better and better with their roster additions now. The list of signing is as follows:

Rhino

Devon Storm (Crowbar)

Mark Jindrak

Air Paris

AJ Styles

Gran Apolo

Chris Harris

Justin Credible

James Storm

Johnny Stamboli

Michael Shane

I laid down in my hotel room after another long day of working out and thinking about my future. I thought about Russ and whether or not he'd return to wrestling, and if he did, what about Joey Matthews? Would Corso make me fight against my brother or have Matthews turn on me or something? My thinking was interrupted by the ringing of my cellphone. I looked at it and the number looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on whose it was. I picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hey Charlie, it's John Corso from CZW."

"Oh, I knew I knew this number."

"Heh, yeah, it's me. Anyway, I was just calling to tell you that we've got a show in two weeks. Delaware Invasion is gonna be Tuesday the 7th. You're gonna have a match against Trent Acid, and Joey's gonna fight Johnny Kashmere. If you both win, you get a Tag Team Title shot in March at Break On Thru."

"Oh, Joey told me about that about a week ago, and I asked him whether it would involve a title shot or not. Thanks for clearing that up John. But I've got one more question."

"Shoot."

"What are your plans for me if Russ comes back?"

"Hmm...I haven't really thought much about it, but I'll give you an answer should that situation come."

"Alright. Thanks alot."

"Anytime, I'll see you at Delaware Invasion in two weeks, right?"

"Right."

"OK, I'll talk to you later."

We hung up and I went back to my regular business, laying down and watching television. But then a question popped into my head.

Do I even WANT the CZW Tag Team Titles?
