Take A Break!

Is anyone out there like me when they get stumped on a game, instead of trying your hardest and seeing it through, you just give up? Worse yet, whenever you finally get around to picking it back up, you totally own the thing that was giving you so much grief in the first place?

I just had that moment as I stopped playing Vice City Stories for a bit. Part of it was because of a difficult mission (the one where you have to protect the truck via a helicopter minigun) and part of it was because I was in the middle of moving. So after about 2 or 3 weeks of settling in, I decided to pick it back up. I must've played that mission about 30 times before giving up before. This time, I beat it within 3 tries.

Worse yet, I got stuck while playing Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast. It was at the part where you're in the underground fight club or whatever and I could not get past the chick I had to fight. No matter how many times I fought her, I couldn't win. So I put it away...for TWO YEARS! For two years, I didn't play that game. So one day I was really bored and popped it in. Somehow, I beat her my first try and went on to beat that game within a few days.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Anyway, yeah, this has happened to me before. It was in Manhunt, I spent a good few hours trying to get by the god damned guards heading toward the mansion. I gave it up for awhile as I was starting to go slightly insane. I came back to it and blew right through it.

Edit - Nevermind, topic title.

Kingdom Hearts 1, I got it (as a gift) when it first came out and played up until the level involving Tarzan. Apparently, I did some thing out of order storyline wise and couldn't figure out how to fix the problem so I could continue on, eventually I gave up and out it away. Fast forward several years, once again the same relative gives me Kingdom Hearts 2 as a gift. I play it, beat it relatively quickly and gets me in a kick to bring back out 1 to beat it (so I can better grasp the storyline in 2).

I started a new game and it only took me a few days to beat it and I got breezed past the Tarzan level within the first day.

Happened to me just a little while ago, actually. For seven and a half years I've struggled to complete Final Fantasy VII (as I've gotten older I've had more patience to train my characters), and I've only managed to battle Safer Sephiroth once (this was about five and a half years ago) and he managed to kick my ass without a problem. Fast forward five years and a countless number of games I finally managed to get back to the final few bosses...and on my first try was defeated by Bizzaro Sephiroth. I leave it for about six months until about three hours ago where I decided to play it again, considering I was struggling with the final battle in Final Fantasy IX (I have no luck with these final battles...). First try defeat JENOVA easily, Bizzaro Sephiroth took me five minutes. However the battle with Safer Sephiroth took me fifteen minutes, twelve pheonix downs, five Super Nova's (which contributed to the fifteen minutes with it's over the top cinematics)...however it all ended with a Cid attack and my long struggle was over. Sorry for the little story there.

Another game that made be take a break would be Vice City. It took me at least thirteen attempts, and a two month break from the game, to beat Hilary in the Club Malibu mission. Played it again a few months ago and completed it first time no problem. I'm currently hoping this works with a mission in Vice City Stories (Light My Pyre, I think it's called).

Dawn of War: Winter Assault. The mission where you're playing as both Eldar and Imperial Guard, and as the Guard you have to escort the Land Raider through the Chaos Gate (you'd think a fucking Land Raider could drive through a gate by it's fucking self! So the Chaos Marines are shooting at you? YOU'RE IN A LAND RAIDER. Run the cunts over!). But yeah, I could never get past that until I tried yesterday.

First fucking time. Sure, I sacrificed the entire Eldar army to do it, but that's what they're there for, fucking Xenos scum.

There was a game on the PC called "Mafia" a few years back, and I logged on to my other computer the other week, and I started playing and remembered for months I'd been stuck on a stupid mission where you had to be absolutely silent and sneak around before killing 5 people and then head to a house. I'd looked at internet guides on how to play it and everything; yet I couldn't beat this particular level. Needless to say I finished the level at the first time of asking. <_>

Holy crap, I got stuck on Mafia on PC too. For me, I got stuck on the parking level garage. It was hard enough to make it through all the bad guys on every level without dying but once I did, that wasn't all as I had to escape from it as well. Finally, I just gave up. It's been a long time since I've played that. I actually wanna pick it up for PS2, along with some other games that I got stuck on mostly because I hate PC controls.
