Basically the Wigan man turned his back to control the ball as he drops and the defender comes behind him and pushes him down. It would be soft. Commentaters did the "it'd be a free kick, but not a penalty". I hate that. A foul is a foul.

I think the referee failed to give it because it was too early in the game.

I'm not saying it's right to do that but I believe that's what went on in his head.

if so, he should be demoted. Fouls are fouls. There's no "..unless it's within the first 10 mins." Ref is giving everything to City. McCarthy and Zabs did the exact same thing and City get a free kick.

Seen two free kicks given to Wigan, although not threatening, it hardly seems like the ref is being biased?
