The Budweiser FA Cup

Recommended Posts

I don't really see the problem. It's "the FA Cup with Budweiser" and it'll probably only be called that going to or coming back from adverts, or during draws, or once or twice in the build-up. It'll still be the FA Cup in most discussions, it's not like commentators will be tripping over themselves to add the clunky "with Budweisier" bit during matches or anything. And I prefer it to "the E-On FA Cup" if I'm honest.

Facebook to stream first FA Cup clash

Non-league sides Ascot United and Wembley FC will kick off this season's FA Cup on Friday night, with the game being streamed to a potential audience of 700 million people on Facebook.

The social networking site are 'televising' the clash, which, although it will not reach the majority of its potential viewers, is the first of its kind anywhere in sport.

A 90-minute stream will be provided by Budweiser, the competition's new sponsors.

''As a long-standing supporter of football globally, Budweiser is committed to brining the world`s most prestigious knockout competition closer to the fans,'' said marketing director Ian Newell.

''What better way to demonstrate this than by broadcasting the very first kick to a global audience via Facebook.

''This is the first time a FA Cup tournament fixture has been broadcast live on the social network, which is great news for football fans and clubs alike.''

It's a great idea to reach a wider audience, With the right streaming it shouldn't have any major problems but more and more sports should start tapping into the social media market. It's like the UFC streaming prelims on Facebook its a good idea.

Stourbridge are 2-0 up against 10-man Plymouth. It's live on ESPN if people are interested (not long left though).
