Catherine was fucking great, and I'll take "batshit mental, weirdly horny puzzle game" over a thousand "LETS PLAY AT BEING ARMY MEN!" first person shooters any day. I can count on my fingers the amount of games I enjoyed on the PS3, and Catherine was one of them. And not because of tits, but because it was something different and challenging.

Pretty sure no one said anything about it being bad? Just that it was pretty clear how they were marketing the game?

And where does the FPS comparison even come from? I'm pretty sure most of the people discussing it really don't care for modern military shooters all that much, either.

I thought Catherine was pretty bad to be honest - apart from the moments in the bar. The puzzle gameplay never really clicked with me and I thought the story started off dealing with it's adult themes quite well and then quite royally ruined that.

Eh, there are some parts of the story that could have been done better. The Erica reveal for example, and the angry boyfriend bit. And the 30 year olds acting like college guys... well, when you think about it, that was part of the conflict... IE that Katherine wanted Vincent to grow up.

The puzzle gameplay... well, I never had a problem with grasping the concept of the gameplay, but that might be years of growing up with Tetris and spacial reasoning games. Did you dive into it in Normal, or did you start with one of the easier difficulties? Also, did you try the practice minigame?

I'm not that good at puzzles, but it looks like an interesting game and I got it free on PS+ the other month. I've been trying to decide what game to start this weekend - do you think it'd be for me even keeping in mind that I'm not very good at puzzles, or will I just get frustrated?

The first few levels are pretty easy before it ramps up the difficulty. I say it is worth giving it a try.

As someone that's been a big critic of Nintendo in the last few years, I have to say, they've totally won this month on new releases. Mario 3D Land and Zelda: A Link between Worlds are way more interesting to me than either Killzone or Dead Rising. Good thing I have a 3DS and remember that I never enjoy Mario games as much as I think I will!

In that case, Resident Evil 6 re-play? >_>

...Well, if you want to play it just for the story, there' always Very Easy mode...

It does get pretty difficult, especially in the latter half of the game.

Things that do help, other than just going on Very Easy:

1) The arcade machine in the bar is essentially a minigame version of the puzzle engine with two key changes to the rules: There's no time limit, but you have a limited amount of possible moves you can make. The solutions for the first twenty or so levels will help you get a feel of the essential maneuvers.

2) Talk to the sheep in the dream world. All of them. Some of them will show you maneuvers you can use. Some of them will be glaringly obvious at first. Others, like the "Inazumi" technique (which I could describe to you here but it makes much more sense with the visual aid the game gives you) are not only more subtle, but in the later part of the game, vital to your survival.

3) There is an escort floor. I warn you this because your escortee has the intelligence of a concussed lemming. You'll know when it happens, just be ready for it.

4) Don't panic.

5) Don't get frustrated. You will die. Often. Megaman often.
