The Walking Dead Video Game

Didn't see a topic for this, but seeing as Walking Dead seems to be pretty popular on EWB (as it should be), I figured it's a good time to spread awareness of this.

Like the Sam & Max games, it's a multi-parter and only Episode 1 is available now, but you can preorder the whole thing.

I love their choice to do it comic book style graphically. I'm not usually a fan of cel-shading with few exceptions (Viewtiful Joe) but it's very appropriate given the original source material.

Non-spoiler stuff: Lots of fun with dialogue. From what I've played so far the characters remember choices you make so it effects the story in ways that Heavy Rain (I can't help comparing the two because of the dialogue interface) just didn't. It takes place on Z-Day. The opening scene is absolutely glorious. Telltale does a very good job with giving you an "in a horror movie" feel when you encounter zombies.

Spoiler stuff:

Possible Michonne sighting VERY early on, but she's way in the distance so it's not a certain thing.

However you DO get to meet Hershel! And camp out in the barn! :w00t:

The main character was convicted of murder and was going to jail when the game begins but the exact details are vague. However you get the impression that this does matter a lot, as a lot of dialogue involves how your leg got fucked up and where you were going when you got the injury.

Not "look out for" but a funny moment: "Hello? Total stranger entering your house through the backyard! Please don't shoot me!"

My dad's a *huge* fan of The Walking Dead, and we both have pre-ordered/played through half of the first episode. I've gotta say, that it's pretty awesome, glad to see someone else enjoying it!

Anyone else feel really fucking old right now?

Love this game!

What I love is how characters remember exactly what you said and did in the past and use it against you. Case in point, in the pharmacy when Kenny and Larry are debating about what to do with Duck since he's may or may not have been bitten, I sided (by accident, I clicked the wrong button) with Larry. Ever since than, I've showed my complete and utter loyalty to Kenny, but he ALWAYS brings that incident up. When Larry's heart gives out in the freezer and you have to chose whether to kill him or help him, Kenny brought up that I wanted to do something about the kid in the pharmacy. So Larry got killed.

It will be interesting to see where episode 3 heads. Lily, in my story, is on the outs with the group, but I've made sure to secure loyalty with everybody else. I'm pissed Mark died, because I gave him food (what a freaking waste!), but I kinda got the impression he was gonna kick the bucket when he randomly showed up.

Just got to the part where

I had to leave the farm because I saved Duck instead of Lee, and Hershel didn't trust me,who did you guys save? game is awesome so far.

I tried to save Shawn too and Kenny ran in and saved Duck but you Shawn still dies because you can't get the tractor off him and the zombies get to him.

You still get kicked off the farm because Hershel is bitter and angry at Kenny for running away.

Yeah, i think most of the decisions affect the dialog rather than the grand story. But i am not to let down by that because other games prepared me for this to happen and they actually openly admitted this in the preorder forum so i knew plaing it ten times would not radically change much.

I expect a few things with bigger impact to happen somewere in episodes 4 and 5... maybe all of your seemingly dialog only decisions from earlier episodes will stack up untill than and give you a finaly tailored to how you behaved.

Finished Episode 2

Same happened with me with Kenny. I was helping Larry and WHAM he killed him, Then he went off on his own. I also am siding with Clementi all the way so she didn't want the food in the car so I didn't take it. On the bad side of Kenny who thinks I am not taking him serious any more, on the good side of the rest. Can't wait for episode 3
