Former Parma president Giampietro Manenti has been banned from football for five years after a failed attempt to help the club avoid bankruptcy.

Manenti was arrested earlier this year on charges of money laundering after Parma were declared bankrupt with debts of more than 200m euros (£147m).

His ban from the Italian Football Federation came after he used cloned credit cards and other illicit means.

Parma Calcio 1913 - the club's replacement - are now in Serie D.

The old club, who were only taken over by Manenti in February, went bankrupt in March but were funded by the Italian league to see out the season - finishing bottom of Serie A.

Parma, who featured former Italy internationals Gianfranco Zola and Fabio Cannavaro, won the Uefa Cup twice and the Cup Winners' Cup once during the 1990s.

They also won two of their three Italian Cups in the decade, and were Serie A runners-up in the 1996-97 season.

The new Parma are backed by pasta maker Guido Barilla and other business executives.
