Apparently the ref in the Leverkusen Dortmund game has stormed off after some arguing. Quality.

Was absolutely ridiculous. Ref sent Kiessling over to tell Roger Schmidt he was sent off, Schmidt refused to go, ref abandoned the game for eight minutes.

Absolute playground stuff from the ref. Why not just sent him off yourself?

Never seen anything like it.

Silvio Berlusconi has claimed Milan’s black striker Mario Balotelli has “taken too much sun”.

Berlusconi, who described Barack Obama as “tanned” in 2008, shortly after that year’s US presidential election, and again after the then Italian prime minister met the president in 2009, was discussing his wish for an all-Italian Milan team. The club’s owner then joked that the Italy forward Balotelli, “is also Italian even if he has taken too much sun”.

Berlusconi spoke at the Serie A’s club training ground during celebrations to mark his 30 years as owner. Balotelli was born in Sicily to Ghanaian immigrants and raised by Italian foster parents. He has suffered racist abuse throughout his career.

Balotelli, on loan from Liverpool, went to Anfield in 2014 after a season at Milan. Berlusconi says Milan could buy Balotelli back “if he wises up”.

I mean technically Italians aren't a race; they're a nationality :/

I'm talking about racism, and section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 gives the legal definition of racism as offences against

persons defined by reference to race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins

Irrespective of that though, the comment 'Italy's gonna Italy' can easily be read as a commentary on the many issues within Italian football with regards to race, which seem to permeate the game from fans to owners. Jumping in and immediately taking faux offence (or, fauxfence) to that comment is just evidence of you twisting Lineker's words, which doesn't seem very nice. :/
