The Download Festival Thread

DFF

Recommended Posts

It's quite early, but rumours are starting to surface regarding the festival, so I thought it made sense to stick a fresh thread up to discuss it.

Thrash Hits claim they have a pretty strong rumour sent their way that sounds legit. Over the course of the next so many days/weeks/however long they want to string it out, they are gonna drop clues as to these bands identities.

The very basic opening clue was that, none of them played Download 11 or 12.

Speculate away!

Sunday night headliner is going to be Iron Maiden, they (apparently) have a new album and haven't played Download for 6 years. I wouldn't be surprised if Green Day or Foo Fighters played too since they've never done it and both will have new albums out (3 of them in Green Day's case <_< ) in 2013, though I think Green Day are nailed on to play Leeds/Reading this time around. The third headliner will probably be Rammstein, they're pretty strongly rumoured.

In the absence of an amazing second stage headliner I'd probably go see both despite not being a fan of either (though Rammstein is more through never having really listened to them) just to say I've seen them... Same with AC/DC if they were to play.

Oh Matt. Don't tell me Iron Maiden are playing. I pretty much have to go if Maiden are there. Seeing them live last year was a dream come true, and it was not a disappointment. Have vowed to go when they tour again next year.

It's now been confirmed. Iron Maiden will headline Download next year.

The name Download was chosen for the festival for two reasons. Downloading was a dirty word in the music industry at the time, due to file sharing, and rock is seen as a rebellious genre of music. The organizers faced pressure from the rest of the industry, with some even claiming that the Download Festival would "destroy the music industry".[citation needed] Also Download was to be a Monsters Of Rock for the 21st century and the internet would provide connectivity with its audience.

So yeah, pretty much.

Rammstein leaked that they are the Sunday headliner. Their Facebook guy uploaded all their summmer tour dates early, and it was on there. Obviously, when they realised what had happened, they took it back down. I'm guessing that's why the second announcement is this morning.

And Pearl Jam are rumoured to be the 3rd headliner.

I hope the third headliner isn't Pearl Jam, just because I saw them 3 months ago and that'd make 3 headliners I don't particularly want to see. Besides, I think they'll put someone more alternative on a la Prodigy last year. I hope so anyway.
