EWB's Top 100 Artists 2013 - Vote Here

METALMAN

Recommended Posts

Hello guys. I always enjoy reading and taking part in these things. I don't imagine I'll have a particularly great time collating all the votes but I suppose I ought to do a public spirited act for this place sooner or later!

So here we are.

You can nominate up to twenty bands or artists. These can be your all-time favourites or simply those that you are listening to at the time. It's your list. Do what you wish. Number one artist receives twenty points; number twenty receives one.

Nominating past winners is allowed. I know GoGo liked to keep things fresh by excluding previous winners, but I am quite interested to see how tastes vary over time. This means you are allowed to vote for The Beatles, Muse, Metallica, Cher Lloyd and whatever nonsense has won in previous years. To keep things fresh, I am going to give a special award to the highest placing artist that hasn't previously won. Details of this award will be revealed in time.

Animated discussion, arguments and generally being a dick is encouraged. That's what makes it fun!

I don't really know how I'm going to tally the votes. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous system where the sum total of points was multiplied by the number of nominations because it meant that bands that people quite liked but nobody particularly loved could finish disproportionately high. But on the other hand, merely using the sum total of votes could result in a band finishing really high just because a couple of people really like them, which is just as bad. I'm thinking about multiplying the average points per artist by the number of nominations, because yes I really care about this stuff.

This year, I am willing to permit voting for Alter Bridge. However, by nominating them and similar bands you hereby give permission for others to mock you without mercy. It;s just the way it is.

Nominations will close at an appropriate time.

Go!

I discovered a lot of new genres this year, particularly genres that I never thought I would enjoy; a lot of electronic music especially. So compared to last year's list, which was very rock-oriented and guitar-oriented, this year is probably going to have a lot more new and exciting stuff on it. Also, I want in on this trend - my list will perhaps have a few from Metalman's list (because lets face it, Metalman has great taste) but probably none from Sousa's list (no offense :shifty: ).

It will take some time to decide on 20 nominees, though.

I looked at the Top 25 Most Played on my iPod as a starting point, and then sort of bumped down some guilty pleasures and bumped up some cool people, while also trying to keep it relatively honest. My dream is that people will look at 3, 4, 5 and 9 on my list and nod their heads in vague approval.

The Clash, Blur and Daft Punk have popped in and out of my lists over the years. James Blake has been middling around the top 5 since his debuted. M.I.A.'s been on every list minus 1 year. Kinda cool to look at, really.
