EWB's Favourite Stand-Up Comedian 2013 Voting Thread.

Recommended Posts

So, we've not done this in a while, it seems.

And EWB fucking loves lists, don't we?

So let's do one. This one.

Usual rules. List ten stand-up comics, in order of preference from 1 to 10. Number one gets ten points, and so on in that fashion.

Any stand-up is eligible, living or dead. There's a possibility that there might be debate over whether someone can really be classed as a stand-up comic - someone who's more well-known in other areas and has maybe dabbled in one or two gigs - but I doubt I'll care enough for it to be an issue. Let's assume it won't be.

And so, here's my list;

1. Rob Newman

2. Stewart Lee

3. Richard Herring

4. Doug Stanhope

5. Reginald D. Hunter

6. Simon Amstell

7. Kevin Eldon

8. Stewart Francis

9. Milton Jones

10. Jeremy Hardy

I honestly would struggle to do ten, can I just vote Lee and Herring first and second just so they briefly fill those spots? David Baddiel third for no reason.

I used to go to some comedy club in Leicester Square after work on Fridays and I saw some absolutely brilliant people there. But I've forgotten them so none will feature here.

Let me put Stewart Lee at number one for now and I'll get back to you on the rest.

Is Jon Richardson any good? Never really been compelled to watch his stand-up. Sarah Millican, too, but I'm actually interested in hers.

It appears that I don't really care much for stand up but Frank Skinner just gets better and better, smarter and less smutty as he gets older. I've always preferred Richard Herring to Stewart Lee. There's something about the honesty and open-eyed approach. The guy recorded a series of podcasts commentating a snooker match between "Me1 and Me2". I never liked Amstell on Buzzcocks but his stand up is smart, almost delicate. He also uses swearing sparingly, for effect, rather than as punctuation - something I'm a big fan of.

1. Frank Skinner

2. Richard Herring

3. Simon Amstell
