These are the projected pots for the draw which takes place on the 6th December. Confirmation of the pots and the format of the draw will be announced some time next week.

So, who do you think will win the tournament? I've had a strong feeling for Argentina for a while now, if not them then maybe Uruguay. I really don't fancy Spain this time or any of the Europeans for that matter, and I don't see Brazil doing too well either.

As for England, I'll be happy if we get out of our group and don't lose on penalties.

I hope we get France or Algeria in our group

Can't see Uruguay winning after needing playoffs to qualify.

I'm gonna say Brazil's team looks a lot better than it has in recent years, and in front of their own crowd, think they'll do it.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Belgium reach the semis too.

Switzerland, Iran, Algeria, England - Will be the best possible draw.

Germany, USA, France, England - Will be more along the lines of the group drawn, I'm sure, knowing our luck.

Always got to fancy the Brazilians, especially on home turf but that can work against you.

I've got a feeling Holland may finally pull it out of the bag, Belguim dark horses.

Really excited about this World Cup, always adds something special to the Summer.

I hope Belgium do well, and I always love following Holland, which I'll do next summer.

As for the winners, aside from Brazil and Argentina, I think Spain and Germany are in with a shot.

If I had to pick one now, I'd say Argentina.

Germany.

I don't know that the US will get out of the Group Stage because this is a very strong field (yes I know how that sounds, but seriously the 'shit' teams this go are actually pretty damned good) and the few teams I'd be comfortable with, we can't be drawn with.

With these pots, our best case is Switzerland/Algeria/and one of either Boz-Her or Greece. That being your best case scenario, doesn't exactly make you optimistic.

I know everyone is on Belgium .... but I see Colombia and Russia as surprise teams.

I reckon you should treat Baddarina to a trip to Holland next summer, then send her shopping as we watch a game and have a few beers.

Already got a family holiday planned for July, but we're definitely looking to go somewhere alone together, so I'll keep that in mind!

Argentina or Germany. If I had to stick my hypothetical mortgage on one I'd go with Germany.

ABE!

I'd go with Germany. Spain probably won't win again but I can see them going far, Belgium too. Brazil would be nice I suppose but I will go for ze germans this time.

I'm hoping Argentina finally do it, though I've long since felt that it'll never happen in my lifetime. They're always just a step behind.

It's probably going to be the three usual suspects, though, in Spain, Germany or Brazil. Belgium are dark horses, but I can certainly see them reaching the semis.

Eh what? Knowing your luck? England hardly ever get difficult groups. :/

I would put Germany, Argentina, and Brazil as the favorites. Belgium, Colombia, Italy, and Spain are other sides who I could see in the semis or, depending on the draw, reaching the final.

If I were picking one it'd be Argentina.

There's quite a few teams who could realistically win it (Spain, Brazil, Holland, Argentina etc.) but I've got a feeling 2014 will be Germany's year. I really wouldn't be surprised to see Belgium do really well though, they've got a really good team and an excellent recent international record

Would be good if we crashed out ASAP so that I could actually enjoy the majority of the tournament.

Assuming you're talking about England I wouldn't worry. If we make it past the second round I'll be amazed

Three people have been killed in an accident at a Sao Paulo stadium that is due to host the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Cup football.
A senior local fire official said crews were called to the Arena Corinthians after reports of a collapsed crane. The crane fells on to the stadium, destroying parts of the stands.
The arena was due to be completed at the end of December to meet a Fifa deadline. Brazil has admitted it is struggling to have all 12 venues ready.

:/ They saying the Arena Corinthians won't be used in the World Cup. And there goes billions of public taxes.

I have a weird feeling that the final will be Brazil vs. Argentina and Argentina will win 2-1, with a Messi brace.

Who are you referring to with 'they'?

It's literally just happened, so let's wait and see what is announced once the dust has settled. Although I imagine you're probably right. Brazil actually only needs eight venues but elected to bid with twelve. So it'll just be a matter or replanning the logistics of the opening ceremony.

Was it Japan and South Korea that had 20 venues? That was ridiculously stupid. And they were all tiny.

Japan and South Korea provided ten venues each, the smallest of which was Daejeon (41,000).

So the Woman's World Cup starts tomorrow, with hosts Canada facing China. Anyone else going to be watching?

I'm supporting Sweden personally, them and Canada.

We've got a month until the World Cup! So exciting!

Anyway for some reason the BBC suddenly posted news about Japan's squad because Shunsuke Nakamura (the ex-Celtic player) has been recalled.
However the best news is that Kawaguchi is back in the squad as third choice goalie! He's a total legend. A chirpy little Japanese shot stopping legend:

My local team is Nagoya Grampus and we've got two players in the squad but one is Tulio who hasn't had the best couple of years.

Is Jesus (Kennedy) in the Australian squad? He's Nagoya's big lanky striker who looks useless for 89 minutes and then bundles in a header in the last minute pretty much every game.

Anyway, Japan are annoying me because their style at ANY kind of football is to try to dribble the ball into the net (a bit like Arsenal but less successful) instead of one person just deciding to let rip from around the box. If they actually shot from 16-25 yards from time to time they'd actually be pretty decent.

We have an England thread, but not a general one, so here it is.

Norn Iron are 1-0 down against Russia with around 25mins to play.

Wales vs. Belgium is on Sky Sports later, and Holland-Turkey can be watched on ESPN.

Fully expecting a comfortable Belgium win this evening. Can't see Wales handling them.

Scotland play Serbia, and Rep Ire vs. Kazakhstan is currently goal-less.
