I just don't see how he can be banned for both. I was calling for a one year ban from international football so he would miss the Copa America since that's the big CONEMBL tourney.

Why can't an individual be punished for a mistake he makes? It shouldn't fall on Uruguay only.

FIFA's point is that he's crossed the line for a 3rd time and doesn't deserve to play football for four months. They're not saying "Haha, fuck you Liverpool", they're banning Suarez the individual who happens to be a complete cunt that plays for Liverpool.

Not entirely sure how I feel about it.

This is the fault of everybody that supported him through past transgressions. It's the fault of the owners for keeping him around knowing this was a probability. Zero sympathy, but at the same time, the real victims here are fans of Liverpool, and it fucks up our season before it's even started. That makes me angry, and it could set us back a few more years, which is just utter bullshit. But that's what happens when you employ somebody like Luis Suarez, no matter how magical a footballer he may be.

Liverpool fans? Victims? Who'da thunk it?

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Luis Suárez of Uruguay following an incident that occurred during the FIFA World Cup™ match between Italy and Uruguay played on 24 June 2014.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that:

· The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player).

· The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

· The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

· A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

· The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated,” said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

I don't understand why Liverpool are upset. He won't even be there next year .

Does the ban from even "administrative activity" not prevent a transfer?

Luis Suárez has now been banned for 34 games since 2010 without receiving a single red card. Actually quite impressive... in a way.

Meh, we did alright without him start of last season. Got a decent fixture list up until Christmas time, it adds more pressure onto the likes of Sturridge/Coutinho/Sterling but we'll be fine, hopefully add a few players into the squad over the summer. Just hopefully get rid of him as soon as we can, from reading FIFA's decison it mentions administrative activities which I'm guessing includes things like transfers, contracts etc. He should be banned from all forms of football, if it was just international games there's normally only about 6 of them a year, this is more of a severe punishment for him because he can't play any football whatsoever.

Fantastic footballing talent but talent can only get you so far in all forms of life not just football. Guys lucky to still even be able to do the thing he loves and get paid thousands of pounds a week, if I went around biting people several times I'd be locked up and long term prospects in life would be fucked up cause I'd have a criminal record. I've got no sympathy for him, as much as I admire his footballing ability and he's possibly the best Liverpool player I've watched during my life time he's a horrible human being.

On a biased point of view he's fucking over the club I love and support cause it means we will be without our star player for some time now but the bigger issue is he's lucky to have not serious injured someone which is the most important thing and he's done it several times.

Nine international games, nine Premier League games, three Champions League group games (and a League Cup game but he probably wouldn't play in it anyway).

That's approximately double his ban when he did it the last time...which doesn't seem unreasonable if he keeps bloody doing it.

Classic Ian Ayre.

Liverpool Football Club has released the following statement in response to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee's decision regarding Luis Suarez.

Ian Ayre, chief executive officer, said: "Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment."

What's the point in issuing a statement about not issuing a statement.

If he appeals the ban, could he feasibly still play on Saturday against Colombia whilst it's being reviewed?

I'd imagine FIFAs response to any appeal would be to laugh in his face.
