365 films in 365 days

Your Mom

Recommended Posts

1. Dallas Buyers Club

2. Training Day

3. Kick Ass 2

4. He Got Game

5. Nebraska

6. Her

Did an Oscar Nominee double feature, seeing as the only other BP nom I've seen was WOWS on Christmas.

Nebraska was just lovely. Charming performances all around. Great stuff.

Her, while I admired the style, concept, and acting, was just meh. Felt like I was watching a 2 hour, miving hipster photo. Just too masturbatory. Like HHH vs Undertaker.

Going to watch a couple movies tomorrow. I got a ton of watching to do if I'm going to get close to 365.

Eurgh, I'm only at 15. There never seems to be enough time, plus I want to get through the movies made in 2013 before I tackle anything else.

What I've watched this year:

  1. The Rescuers
  2. Rush
  3. 12 Years A Slave
  4. Don Jon
  5. Fruitvale Station
  6. The Nightmare Before Christmas
  7. Sweetwater
  8. Before Sunrise
  9. Before Sunset
  10. Before Midnight
  11. Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics
  12. The Wolf of Wall Street
  13. Grudge Match
  14. Her
  15. American Hustle

Added 6 this week. Probably going to watch one or two more later tonight, but right now:

16. The Selfish Giant (2013)

17. Blue Jasmine

18. The To Do List

19. Ernest & Celestine

20. Frozen

21. Dallas Buyers Club

As it's the 27th here, I'm behind watching one a day by 6. Hopefully if I watch two a day I'll be caught up by February.

After about another week, I've watched:

22. Out Of The Furnace

23. Escape Plan (yuck)

24. August: Osage County

25. Justice League: War ( )

26. Drive ( )

27. We're The Millers (Rewatch :pervert: )

28. The Heat (double yuck)

29. Paradise (yuck)

30. Free Ride (wasn't bad!)

31. Justice League: The New Frontier (another rewatch :pervert: )

So I'm at 31 on the 2nd of February, 2 movies away from one a day! :w00t:

It's extremely easy to get into, in fact it's quite addictive.

Plus it'll help you keep track of your movie of the year come Oscar time.

Without wanting to derail this topic, how do you use Letterboxd?

As in, with Goodreads, I went back and literally graded every book I could ever remember reading. Did you do the same with Letterboxd, or is it more of a 'going forward' thing?

Also, is there any real benefits to having more reviews on there? Like, with Goodreads, it shapes recommendations.

You can put every film you've ever watched there. Some people have about 4,000 films on there.

I use it more going forward just to track what I'm watching, and as benkid said, be able to see what my 'Movie of the Year' is.

I think I will make it, I usually watch one or two movies when I get home from work unless I go out with friends. I also watch movies during night shifts. I'm already ahead of shedule and I should be ashamed. Here's what I've seen so far this year:

39. Ultraviolet (2006)

40. Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

41. Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

45. Predators (2010)

46. Ender's Game (2013)

49. The Lone Ranger (2013)

50. Horror of Dracula (1958)

Made it to 50!

Does it offer recommendations?

I guess the reason I asked about logging past films is my general inability to remember what happens in films >_>

It doesn't recommend movies. But you can follow people and that's how I discover gems and turds!

The Golden Child was a Netflix recommendation because I watch Big Trouble in Little China. It was ok at best. GLOW was really interesting and a fun look at a wrestling company I didn't know anything about.

7. A Time to Kill

ATK had a ton of big names in it(McConaughey, Samuel Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Kevin Spacey, and Oliver Platt) which caught my eye, and it was okay I guess. The performances were all good but the whole "Maniacal Klansmen at All Costs in 1996" angle felt a little over-the-top. There's a chance school gets closed tomorrow due to weather, and I've already picked a handful of movies to knock out if that's the case. Fingers crossed.

So at the start of the year I mentioned I'd do this as well in the "what did you watch today" thread so I thought I'd add it in here too... I've been pretty slack lately with my watchings and am falling a fair bit behind but ill usually watch 2-4 things at a time, so I don't think catching up should be too hard... Hopefully... All thoughts on movies in the list for this post are already posted in the other thread...

The List So Far:

1. Fruitvale Station

2. The Spectacular Now

3. Out Of The Furnace

4. Chronicle

5. Armored

6. Good Will Hunting

#7 Don Jon

Liked it. Thought JGL did a good job with the writing, directing and acting. Solid movie and story which didn't feel to drag on like it could have.

#8 Wolf Of Wall Street

Loved it for the most part. Wasn't til near the end when I thought, holy hell this has felt like it's gone forever. Leo continues to play some awesome parts and Jonah Hill surprised me a little more.

#9 Escape Plan

Predictable. Arnold & Stallone, can't complain too much. It is what it is. I didn't love it, didn't hate it. I did get a laugh out of some parts of it but yeah just your ordinary prison break movie imo. Jim Caviezel is someone I usually like watching, not this movie though, he just came across so bland and cheesy in parts.

#10 Justice League: War

Was another great DC animated film. They seem to know exactly what they're doing with the animated films and this reboot was perfect and sets up some great things for the future.

#11 You're Next

Messy. I didn't like it. People had talked it up a little bit to me though and that could have been why it was a downer but yeah I didn't think it was very good and the acting was bad.

#12 Maniac (2013)

Remake of an original which i'd never seen. Was gory and nicely done. Man I thought the score was pretty suspenseful and gave a pretty scary vibe too it. Elijah Wood really surprised me and gave a great performance.

#13 Last Vegas

I got some good laughs out of an awesome veteran cast. Story was perfect and everybody played their part well. Not a must watch but it's a decent enough watch.

#14 This Is The End

Man, each time I watch this movie, I get more laughs out of it and I love it a bit more. Was definitely one of my favourite movies from last year. Hopefully the actors do more of these films where they play themselves to a degree, came across perfect and everybody had something awesome to do.

I wasn't a big fan, but I seem to be in the minority. A lot of people love it and swear by it. It's got some interesting imagery, but I found the whole thing every disengaging and hard to invest in. But it's well worth watching, and my opinion probably isn't the one to go by. I'm still interested in watching a lot more Bunel.
