#15 Invincible

Didn't mind it. It's got a decent enough story behind it. Mark Wahlberg though just didn't do it for me, he just came across so bland. Decent sports movie although nowhere near the top of my favourite sports movies list.

#16 Runner, Runner

Surprised me a bit. I liked it. I understand if others didn't but I went into it with little expectations after the bagging it copped and yeah thought it was ok. Ben Affleck played his villain role perfectly and Justin Timberlake was meh, ok in parts, horrible in others. Story was good and executed well enough.

#17 The Wolverine

Infinity times better than the previous wolverine movie. I'll echo the sentiments that the final boss fight was horrible but it was what it was. I kinda wonder how much longer Hugh Jackman can actually play Wolverine for though. Story was good though and made sense in the context of the character.

#18 Insidious Chapter 2

Man was I disappointed here. Loved the first film and was looking forward to this one and it just let me down. I can't even put my finger on why. Just didn't get the scares out of me like the first one did and I thought the story was much, much weaker than in the first.

14. Cast Away

Didn't get that snow day Thursday, but I did watch four movies last night, and I'm going to try and watch five today.

Coach Carter was a decent movie. Nothing special aside from Samuel L. Jackson being awesome. It was well-made, but just nothing that hasn't been seen in a sports movie before. Man, Channing Tatum looked young.

All-Star Supes. was a decent animated movie. i haven't read the source material, which probably would've helped me understanding of a few of the characters that crop up. Felt way too rushed, like they were trying to fit 2 1/2 hours into eighty minutes, but it was enjoyable overall. Might try to find a few Batman ones.

Rush was fantastic. Loved it. Powerful, enthralling, suspenseful, the list goes on. Best movie I've seen this year so far. How did that not get any Oscar nominations!? Absolutely deserved a BP nod and Daniel Bruhl should be a Best Actor contender for that. Wow.

Bad Gramps was okay. Everyone who I'd talked to it loved it, but I was watching it by myself so that probably hurt the entertainment value a bit, since comedies tend to be funnier with a group. There were a few moments that had me going, and the little boy was adorable as well. I just would've preferred less "story" and more pranks. The hitting on random women was also overdone and felt a little tedious. Not bad overall.

I'll update this tonight after I've hopefully added another five.

EDIT: Only fit in three today...

Last Vegas was pretty meh. There were a few cute laughs and touching moments here and there, and the cast is so lovable, but the whole thing felt pretty uninspired. It's the senior citizen version of the Hangover, minus the raunchiness.

Walk the Line was excellent. Awesome acting. Awesome jams. Awesome movie. Loved it.

Cast Away is technically a re-watch, but I was really young and remember being bored by it more than anything else with the exception of WILSON!!! It was actually really good the second go-round, probably because I can appreciate it the themes a lot more now that I'm not eight. Plus, the Memphis connection was nice, although I do hate that "Everyone in Memphis breathes Elvis" stereotype seen in this.

16. Donnie Brasco

So I decided to finish out Sunday with two more movies to bring me to a grand total of 9 this weekend. I'll try to watch one at least three out of the five weekdays if I don't get too busy. I had a lot of free time this weekend to binge to oblivion, but there's no way I could watch 9 movies every weekend on a regular basis. I need to catch up.

Sideways was good stuff. I mean, the story itself was just decent, but Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti are fucking awesome. Very charming, It kind of reminded me of a sophisticated, more serious version of Swingers with Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. Coincidentally enough, I watched that one over winter break and would've included it on my list if only I could remember whether or not I saw it before or after January 1st. Same goes for Casino, which I also can't remember if I watched in December or January. Oh, well...

Donnie Brasco was also really good. Not much to say other than that it was really entertaining and I enjoyed it. Lot of tense moments during his undercover stint and it was interesting to see the agent actually become his cover.

#19 Ride Along

Wasn't a fan. I do like both Ice Cube and Kevin Hart but something just felt off. I got the occasional laugh but nothing that would make me ever want to sit through watching this movie again.

#20 Grudge Match

Looking at both men I wondered how they would make the grudge match look somewhat fair and they did a good job with it. I didn't mind the movie and the jabs at Rocky and what not as they actually made sense within the movie.

#21 Thor: The Dark World

Maybe I was just having an off day because not even this movie felt good to me. There was nothing wrong so speak with the film I just didn't get the wow factor that I had watching previous marvel films. I feel as though Loki is just about played out now and with the ending of the flim, it just doesn't seem that is the case with the story. The after credits scene got me looking forward to guardians of the galaxy though, so that is something.

#22 Odd Thomas

Had never heard of this film til I flicked it on to watch. Surprised me. I liked it. Story was good, twist at the end was somewhat foreseeable but still surprised me when it actually happened. Don't think they'll make a sequel but its open enough for more story which I'd definitely take a look at.

1. Inception- Awesome film, didn't expect it to be as good as it actually was, Leo was brilliant in it and was impressed with a lot of the supporting cast in particular Ellen Page and Cillian Murphy, this was the first time I have seen anything with him in it and was pleasantly surprised.

2. Wolf Of Wall Street- Part 2 of Leo, and wow what a performance he put in that man will do absolutely anything for an Oscar, it could have definitely had some parts cut out of it as the running time seemed a bit too long. I usually cringe at Jonah Hill but he impressed me a hell of a lot during this.

3. IP Man- Having never really been a huge fan of foreign films or martial arts in general, but this was really good with impressive fight sequences, I will need to catch the other parts to see if they are as good as this one.

4. Class Of 92- Being a United fan I had to watch this and it was absolutely brilliant with the insight in to the on field and off field antics of them was interesting particularly the fact that Scholes has a dry sense of humour and was a bit of shit on the training field, it also made me appreciate what a great player Nicky Butt was compared to the sorry centre midfielders we currently have.

5. Attack The Block- It was ok, wasn't great, wasn't poor. One of the main reasons I liked this film was through one of the supporting actors the guy that played Pest, made the film for me as he had some of the best lines during the film.

6. Nebraska- This was a pleasant surprise I thought it was a brilliant story and was played perfectly throughout, I am glad I gave it a chance as it is a film a usually would not go for.

The last ten days have been pretty interesting; I was heavily let down by Inside Llewyn Davis, finally got to see Hoffman's Oscar winning performance, watched my first Milos Forman film, discovered Pariah, which was a brilliant coming of age story & got to see Abbas Kiarostami's first film out of Iran. The Hunt & The Lego Movie are the pick of the bunch I've seen recently, but there's a bunch of really good films in there; only ones I didn't like were Ginger & Rose and The Five Year Engagement.

Watched a few incredible films over the weekend, plus I wanted to add in dates for my own benefit. I think that I've done/doing two contemporary film modules in Uni mean that I've watched a fair amount of modern films this year.

1. This is Spinal Tap (1988)

2. American Hustle (2013)

3. 12 Years A Slave (2013)

4. The Mummy (1999)

5. The Angels' Share (2012)

6. La Haine (1995)

7. The Apartment (1960)

8. Nosferatu (1922)

9. Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

10. Ace in the Hole (1951)

11. Goldmember (2002)

12. The Idiots (1998)

13. Italian for Beginners (2000)

14. Taste of Cherry (1997)

15. Cutie and the Boxer (2013)

16. The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972)

29. U.S Go Home (1994)

30. Ginger & Rosa (2012)

31. Capote (2005)

32. The Five-Year Engagement (2012)

33. Pariah (2011)

35. The Hunt (2012)

36. Winter's Bone (2010)

37. Certified Copy (2010)

38. Taking Off (1971)

39. The Lego Movie (2014)

40. The Thing (1982)

41. In The Name of the Father (1993)

42. The French Connection (1971)

43. In America (2002)

For what it's worth I thought The French Connection was incredible, and having seen My Left Foot previously, as well as two of his films over the weekend, I realise how talented Jim Sheridan is, and how completely absurd it is that he went from making fantastic Irish film to directing 50 Cent.

Whilst I'm not going to get involved in the full on challenge, I do want to document what I've watched this year, and actively challenge myself to watch more where possible.

So far:

1) The Darjeeling Limited

2) 12 Years a Slave

3) The Seventh Seal

4) The Five-Year Engagement

5) The Lego Movie

6) Beauty and The Beast

7) Cool Runnings

Pretty abject so far, but will grow. Last three over the last two days - will try and watch a few more this week (looking at Looper, Moneyball or X-Men: First Class, due to the missus being away from Wednesday).
