EWB Draft-Style Fantasy Premier League 2014-15 (Berober's League)

Initial Post

So I've been wanting to run a draft-style Fantasy Premier League league for a few months now, and I've found a site which will do the brunt of the spreadsheet work for me, so why not get it up and running! We still need to draft manually, so with just under a month to go until the season starts, now should give us plenty of time to do so. Here's how we're doing it:

  • Over the next few days, let me know below if you're interested in taking part. Theoretically, this can be done with as little as two people, but I think 10-12 teams should be ideal.
  • Drafting will take place in this thread. Positions are 1 GK, 3 DEF, 3 MID, 2 FW and 2 FLEX (Any outfield position). You also get 5 bench players, so 16 players in total.
  • Scoring is similar to the standard leagues, the table in full is found here
  • If a player is transferred out of the league during the draft, and he has already been drafted. (eg. Hazard goes to PSG for £1bn and he was drafted 3rd) then whoever owned the player has priority over the next pick to compensate.
  • If a player is transferred into the league during the draft, he is fair game for whoever has the next pick.
  • Drafting will be snake-style, so the order switches around each round, so whoever picks last in one round picks first in the next, and vice versa. If there are 4 teams drafting for example, it goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc...

If this sounds interesting but you'd like to know more, I'll try to answer any questions you have, the website I'll be using is http://draftepl.com/ and if you're still interested, then sign up below!

The official website player list is also located here so this should let you keep track of players to look for...

Of course! I'd suggest looking into a few sites' rankings for the time being for which players did well last year to give you an idea of a draft order (you might need to sign up on the first link, but the rest should be fine). Since draft-style PL isn't really a thing, there's no official cheat sheets or draft rankings to go by.

Otherwise, once the season starts, this should be ideal for getting you involved in the PL, having to track up to 10 different games going on over a weekend :)

Okay. We're at 13 people here. I worry that 13 (or 14 if we even it out to avoid bye weeks) might be too many, since we're drafting 224 players against 220 players starting each week (I know this'll be where the bench comes into play, but it's still becoming very stretched for players), so I'm gonna open up a question to you guys. If we get a few more people interested quite soon, does anyone want to run a second league of this? If not, I'll close off signups at 14 for sure.

Seriously though, thanks for the interest in this.

I'd be up for 2 leagues, can have the 2 winners/top 2 of each league face off in a playoff system maybe, with the results leading to a first and second division for next season should you do it again.

I don't think multi-league playoffs within the website would be possible, although, depending on how long into the season we can start a new league, a "top 4" final league might be workable or something like that. Otherwise, next season a promotion/relegation system would be easily workable here.

Have one draft for priemership players and one draft for championship/div1-2 players.
