Red Devil-Taker316
I made a post in the general motorsport thread, but this is major news. At a Sprint Car race Saturday Night Tony Stewart hit a an on-foot Kevin Ward. Ward got caught in the wheel and flung about 30 feet. He has been reported as dead on arrival. Rich
Just seen the raw footage of it. Wow, Ward shouldn't have reacted like that and stayed on the track, but this is so sad
HC
Horrible to see a kid my age lose his life. And rumor is Stewart wants to fucking race tomorrow. His P.R. guy is going to have a stroke.
MalaCloudy Black
Stewart's not racing today. Zipadelli said last night that today would be "business as usual", but then issued a statement not long ago saying that Tony Stewart's slept on it and decided he's not going to race today, believing it to be the right thing to do.This whole situation is pretty shitty. There's a family in mourning right now, and this is the sort of incident that could cause serious mental issues for Tony Stewart going forward. Not only that, but people are already calling for his head and calling him a murderer, claiming that he intended to kill Ward. Even if it's found to be unintentional, it's the kind of stigma that's going to hound Stewart the rest of his career.
Meacon Keaton
Stewart has always been an asshole hothead. I doubt he intended to kill the guy, but I'm sure he had the intent to intimidate and scare him and it just went too far.
MDK
Someone tell me why you could get out of your car and walk to the inside of the track while people are racing? And is there no red flag like in F1? I wish I didn't watch the video.

Colly
I'm not planning on watching it, but is that the general gist of it, man walks on racetrack and gets hit by car? I don't even know what sprint cars are to be fair, but I'm imagining its the standard oval thing?
Colly
And again.
MalaCloudy Black
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_car_racing#mediaviewer/File:DaveBlaney40SprintCar.jpgThat's a sprint car. They're typically raced on dirt tracks. And pretty much, yes - man gets out of car to confront other driver, gets hit.
EddieG
ESPN just showed the footage in Nascar Countdown.. why the fuck would they do that? Just how desperate for ratings can a channel be?
Meacon Keaton
Next they'll get LeBron and Johnny Football's thoughts. ESPN blows.
EddieG
Eugh, I know, but thought they'd at least steer clear of that.

Watched the footage, no idea what the guy was thinking walking out onto the track.
Maxx
ESPN just showed the footage in Nascar Countdown.. why the fuck would they do that? Just how desperate for ratings can a channel be? Not at all? They're their own channel, owned by one of the largest media conglomerates in the world.
Colly
Fox are pretty big too and they'll throw any shit on their 'news' channel for what presumably is ratings grabbing.
Maxx
Well, Fox News has direct competition with every other 24 hour news network. Anyways, I think everyone is at fault here, it certainly looks like Stewart could have avoided him, but what the hell are you doing out of your car standing in the middle of the track during a race in the first place? Your Mom
I'm not going to watch the video but I can't believe anyone could be dumb enough to step out in front of racecars while they are racing. I am by no means saying this guy deserved it but I mean how can you be so dumb?
EddieG
Happens all the time in American racing really, especially after a caution when they all have to slow down, but according to eyewitnesses, Stewart accelerated which led the car to go sideways leading to the right rear to hit Ward.
