NBA 2014/15 Season Thread

Recommended Posts

With the much-hyped and anticipated preseason ( :shifty:) starting in a couple days, and me not being able to find any other thread for this season, I thought i'd throw this up now.

Also because I really wanted to talk about my excitement (read: brag) that I just bought my tickets to the first three Knicks home games, including the opener against Chicago. Boo your team, Srar! Down with that sort of thing!

I'm very excited for the Wizards this year. Possible shot at the division crown, but not without fights from a still very good Heat team, a good Hawks team, and a maybe good Hornets team. Wizards backcourt is the best in the league, with apologies to Kyrie and Waiters.

I'll hopefully be able to make it down for a few games this year during my free time and see them play.

With the addition of Sefolosha, I'm once again cautiously optimistic about these Hawks. While the Cavs may be the favorite, I feel like the East is actually more open than last year. For Atlanta, having a chance means keeping Horford healthy and getting consistent production from the starters. I could see them challenging for the second seed but ultimately falling to five or six. We still need another 2, though, at least for depth.

Mavericks have sweet new alternate uniforms!

I thought those weren't debuting until the 2015-16 season.

But they are sweet. More teams need to implement city skylines into alternate uniforms.

This season is gonna' be so bonkers. Be interesting to see if OKC can actually go all the way this year.

It's a tough call. OKC will always be there but I don't see San Antonio dropping off much if at all and the Clips and Warriors could be right there with them this year.

Very confident about the Hornets this season. I think that Stephenson will thrive both on and off the court, under the leadership of Big Al and Marvin. MKG seems to have developed a jump shot and Noah Vonleh ( ) & PJ Hairston were steals.

Well hopefully the Mavs can make a good push into the playoffs again this year. Lots of new faces, a few old ones gone like Marion which is a shame.

But with a lineup of Harris/Monta/Parsons/Dirk/Chandler they should be able to impress. Chandler really was a big steal, and I feel he can come into his own this season without having to play second fiddle to Harden and Howard.

And as last year showed, Monta Ellis can be a great team player when he's coached by the right guy, so it's a strong starting five as point scoring is concerned.

As always though, defensively they look a bit shaky. But hopefully Tyson Chandler can bring the same spark he gave the team 4 years ago.

The only thing they're truly lacking is an established Point man. They have a lot of names like Harris, Nelson, and Felton. But none of them are on the playmaking level of a Calderon or Kidd.

I don't know that you can call it a steal when you are paying $46 million on a 3 year deal. I personally think it's a huge overpay, especially when Carlisle just said "One man's bulking up is another man's not quite in shape yet" about Parsons. I get that he was massively underpaid and screwed over by being a second round pick, but I think you guys just added his back pay to his contract.

Excited to go to another Raptors game or two this year, hoping they can improve their performance next year by winning a playoff round. Just need to have another good regular season, I feel like with the new GM (Masai Ujiri) we're on track for a winner.

Cole: Ujiri will keep building good teams as long as he continues to be able to trade with the Knicks.

I'm actually pretty excited to see what the Pistons can do now that they finally have a good coach (we have had a bunch of scrap heap shit since Flip Saunders was fired). We didn't make any splashy moves but bringing in Meeks, Augustin, and Butler were solid moves. Two of the biggest things is that we need to be a better shooting team, which is why the three guys we brought in give me some hope to space the floor. Second thing is that I hope SVG can get either Smith or Monroe to buy into coming off the bench. That is what will happen, but hopefully neither of them fucking pout or put up a shit fit because either of them as a sixth man greatly improves our bench.

Honestly, I think Monroe is the better candidate to come off the bench. He can back up the 4 and 5, so if Smith needs to come out, Monroe steps in, or if Drummond comes out Monroe can move to the 5. Monroe is likely gone after this season, and we probably can't trade him, but hopefully he has a good season and helps us get back to the playoffs. We have some guys that need some playoff experience, even if it is an 8th seed.

I really hope to see KCP take a big leap this season, his defense is already pretty good, but he disappointed with his shot last year. If he can knock his jump shots down, that will greatly improve the team.

Oh and one more thing. Brandon Jennings. He is a knuckle head that takes poor shots, but he is also a talented knuckle head, if he buys into the system, he could actually turn out to be a pretty good point guard. I know it's a lot to ask, but I think he's going to be on a short leash with Stan, and he's still pretty young.

And of course, hoping to see Drummond continue to improve and maybe make the next step to becoming an elite center in the league.

By the way, James Edwards laughs at the idea of "best mustache in NBA history".

That is a bad stache on a bad man. He didn't spend all of his time as a Piston either.

Fine, do I need to pull the Kurt Rambis card!?

With free agency set to begin tomorrow, I think it's time to start a new topic.
Kemba Walker is expected to sign with the Boston Celtics. So much for giving the Hornets a homedown discount.
Nikola Mirotic is expected to sign with Barcelona of the Euroleague. Did not see that one coming.
Warriors are going to give Klay Thompson a max contract, while Durant is taking meetings with the Knicks, Clippers, and Warriors.
Kawhi Leonard is also meeting with the Clippers, along with the Lakers and the Raptors.
Kyrie Irving is trying to get something done with the Nets.
Derrick Favors is going to open up free agency taking calls from whoever, although the Jazz have until July 6th to guarantee his contract or make him an unrestricted free agent. The Jazz are expected to meet with Bobby Portis in LA tomorrow. I'm sure the talks there will decide what we do with Favors.
Bunch of other rumors out there too but that covers a lot of them, I think. Should be a fun summer.

Figured since the first big move of the off season just happened and with the draft tomorrow, it would be ok to start a new season thread.
The Hornets have agreed to trade Dwight Howard to the Nets for Timothy Mozgov.

Couldn't find a thread for this coming season, so.
I need help. It appears the League Pass option where I could pay relatively little and choose any 8 games a month is gone (boooo). And I don't want to pay £25 a month. So the £15 option is to pick a single team. Thing is I've never really settled on a team to follow/support. So I need to choose a team that's going to be an entertaining watch this year, plenty of exciting/close games. I'd also rather not watch the top few teams spend half the season dominating their opponents.
So who would people advise I consider?
I've thought about the Thunder but not a huge fan of Westbrook, same for the Rockets and Harden. I thought about the Bucks but Giannis doesn't reason enough on his own. Hell, I've considered LAL for the freakin' circus show of it all this year but I just can't.
So who EWB? Who? Please help. Who's going to be a fun team to watch this year?

Kyrie Irving is the standard edition cover star, DeMar DeRozan is the Canadian edition cover star and Shaq is on the standard and gold Legend editions.

MyLeague is my favorite mode in the 2K games, so adding a story + G-League and new CBA stuff like supermax deals has me pretty hyped.

So this game released worldwide 2 days ago, and apparently according to the reviews it is p. gud. And most importantly, no Spike Lee in the career mode.
      Some changes & additions
      - 2016/1992 USA Mens Basketball Team
      - 2016 Australian Mens Basketball Team
      - 'Living' Arenas, unique sounds and looks of all the 30 different NBA courts.
      - 'Dynamic Commentary' with Chris Webber, Steve Smith, Brent Barry, Clark Kellogg, and Doris Burke alternating as third commentator.
      - David Aldridge new sideline reporter, replacing Doris Burke.
      - MyCareer interviews with EJ/Shaq/Kenny
      - More coaching animations and clips during timeouts
      - Face scanning now available on PC
      - Improved physics and animation, no more 'canned' animations.
      - Better ball physics.
      - No more ghost limbs, balls will react to all limbs and no longer ghost through whenever the AI pleases. (better hitboxes)

      - MyLeague/MyGM expansion teams, to a maximum of 36 teams, with Draft Lotteries and expansion drafts.
      - Start MyGM/MyLeague from the off-season.
      - Jersey retirements in MyLeague/MyGM
      - Rotation Timelines, to finetune exact rotations between all four quarters. (Keep your clutch players in late when they play less early on.)
      - MyLeague/MyGM 'Dynamic Rule Changes', to alter certain rules on a yearly basis.
      - Team Rivals in MyLeague/MyGM, to slowly build new rivalries between teams as they face each other in playoffs and clutch games.
      - New MyCareer story starring Michael B. Jordan. Allowing you once more to play in College, and also to play for Team USA.
      - Dynamic Duo, a new chemistry system where two players with great chemistry improve each other when they're on court. (e.g. Klay/Curry)
      - More 'choice' and you're not railroaded into Spike Lee's vision of a Harlem kid with a black twin sister and black parents, even though your player is whiter than a carton of milk.
-- TL;DR, lots of shit changed.
It's also getting great reviews on the internet, with IGN giving it a 8.9, Polygon a 8.0, and a lot of others above the 90... So apparently it's p. gud.

Personally though, I'm not sure if I should get it just yet. I've already found it priced around 30 euros on keysites, but with the (pre-)season still a bit away, the chances of starting a legit MyGm/MyLeague with good rosters is a small one, since with training camps a lot of shit is going to no doubt happen.
Anyone here getting the game, or already got it? What are your opinions on this year's title?
