37. 'Overexposed' by Maroon 5 - The first half of this album is just the best kind of delightful pop. I'm not that fussed on the second half, but that's mainly because the first half is such wonderful Maroon 5 goodness.

38. 'Scream Aim Fire' by Bullet for My Valentine - My hometown boys! This was essentially an album full of singles. Every single song sounds like it's built to be a single in my opinion. But some of them are just fantastic all the same; namely Waking the Demon, Scream Aim Fire, and Eye of the Storm.

39. 'Dark Horse' by Nickelback - As hated as this band is by some people, I can't help but like their music, and I really don't understand why my opinion is so different. I enjoyed it anyway.

27. 'Little Machines' by Lights (20th October 2014)

28. 'Blunderbuss' by Jack White (21st October 2014)

I've heard plenty of songs by Lights, but never actually listened to a full album, so I figured I'd give her latest album a shot, and it's pretty damned great. She's one of those artists I've meant to properly check out for years but I could never really find the motivation, but I'm glad I finally did. It's a really complete album and she clearly knows her range and style well. Some really good individual songs on there too, but if I had to pick one then I'd say 'Meteorites' is it.

Jack White's album was pretty underwhelming. Very samey and nothing really stood out. Distinctly middle of the road stuff.

1) Perfume Genius 'Too Bright' - Interesting, not my usual cup of tea but his voice and the sparse use of instruments add up to a worthwhile listen.

I'd also not been aware that I'd heard one of his songs on the radio the other day, so that was a surprise.

Using Metacritic initially to get my first lot of albums to listen to.

2) Earth 'Primitive and Deadly' - Brilliant. Love the use of Mark Lanegan and a couple of other guest vocalists to just add an extra layer. Dark, but beautiful.

3) Jack Johnson 'From Here To Now To You' - checked this out after I saw Benji had listened to it. Like some Jack Johnson, but haven't listened to him in years. Interesting, more up tempo music that I really enjoyed.

4) Anthony and The Johnsons 'I Am A Bird Now' - this was perfectly fine, though not as good as I might have expected. 'Hope There's Someone' is still a killer song though.

5) Elliot Smith 'XO' - liked what I heard. Was busy marking so it was mostly being used as background music.

6) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx' - Just really fun. Always heard good things, but was skeptical heading in. Well worth a look.

7) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx (II)' - More of the same, just better.

8) The New Pornographers 'Brill Bruisers' - Was listening on the underground so was occasionally drowned out - what I heard was good. Catchy, fun pop.

9) The Bug 'Angels and Devils' - Felt the first half was better than the second half, but that is because the initial few songs appeal to my tastes much more.

I've part listened to a couple of albums as well, so will finish them off at some point.

10) Brand New 'Deja Entendu' - so much better than I expected. Hadn't fancied it when it first came out, but just much more versatile than I imagined

11) DFA 1979 'The Physical World' - liked their debut stuff, and this is more of the same. Some good, raucous electro-rock and roll.

12) Flying Lotus 'You're Dead' - a little bit mixed, wasn't sure what to expect and it hit the right spots in some areas. Quite unsure in general how I feel overall - worth a look I guess

13) The Melvins 'Hold It In' - brilliant new album from the Melvins - just real rock/metal shapeshifters in terms of sound - makes me want to get into more of their stuff.

14) The Melvins 'Houdini' - had heard a few songs before from this, but this is the first time through. A little heavier than their newest album, but with more standout moments. Very, very good.

15 The Melvins 'Eggnog (EP)' - just kept playing on through Spotify without me realising :shifty:

16) New Godflesh

17) Ryan Adams 'Ryan Adams'

18) Corrosion of Conformity 'IX'

Will give more thoughts later - this is a post more so I don't forget!

44. Rainbow - Rising
48:13 was alright, prefer the rock sound of Kasabian to the electronic mish-mash. There's a couple of decent songs on there, mostly part of the first five. I really hate the song "Glass", that's a bad track. Last Shadow Puppets was Miles the DEMON Kane and Alex Turner's band and it's indy music by the numbers. My thoughts on Phoenix are pretty much the same. I liked some aspects of The Astronaut, but twelve/sixteen minutes for a song that doesn't really develop isn't fantastic. I preferred "La La Land" to "The Astronaut" but the band was probably aiming for something different altogether. "Rising" is a brilliant album, everything gels well.

1. Pink Hearts, Yellow Moons by Dressy Bessy (1999)

Picked this up at a record store in Portland a couple months ago and just didn't remember to listen to it. Dressy Bessy are the kind of twee power poppy '90s female-fronted indie rock that I'm a complete and total sucker for (see: my undying devotion to that dog., my having a Tiger Trap album that I did the shit out of), and in Dressy Bessy's case it's also an Apples in Stereo side project so it has sort of a jangly guitar sound too. It's solid; no real bad songs, though some of them like "Little TV" don't really go anywhere or do anything interesting. Very short too, so I'll probably have listened to it a second time by the end of the day.

Best Song: Well, it's

which is infectious and adorable, but since I bought the album specifically because I knew and liked that song I'll instead say

29. 'Battle Born' by The Killers (22nd October 2014)

30. 'The Fall' by Gorillaz (23rd October 2014)

Best song on Battle Born was probably 'Runaways', but it was a very middle of the park album. Nothing special and certainly didn't have the usual Killers pizazz.

Gorillaz album I tried to listen to once before but didn't give it a full chance. Tried again and whilst it's not great, it's a good little experimental piece and I always have time for a band I like trying something a bit different. 'Amarillo' and 'Aspen Forest' were the stand out tracks.

32. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out by Panic! at the Disco- Panic!'s first album and its aged well to be fair and is still well worth a listen. There is something about "I write Sins not Tragedies," brilliant song.

33. Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die by Panic! at the Disco- From their oldest album to their newest, this mostly just feels like a solo album from Brendon Urie. I mean, it practically is one, and it shows. It's not a bad album, but it lacks the charm of their debut album and isn't even as good as Vices and Virtues in my opinion.

34. Don't You Fake It by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- It's ok I guess, but really nothing special. "Face Down" and "Your Guardian Angel" are probably the best.

35. From Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy- Used to be my favourite FOB album and it's still not bad like.

36. Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy- This is probably my new favourite FOB album now. Never really gave the album tracks a good go before now and "Bang the Doldrums," especially, is really good. The singles are great too.

Velvet Underground and Nico is a fantastic album, nothing more can be said. On the other hand, I learnt that I really don't like Fozzy, maybe they're not for me. Jericho should have stuck to wrestling. Further is cracking, Swoon and Escape Velocity are lovely electronic tracks, although every song on the album are just as good.
