Hello fellow movie geeks,

with more and more people posting in the 365 day thread I was thinking, maybe we need to re-open the filmclub. And discus which plan would be the best longterm one! Who's in and who got some amazing ideas?

1. Lars
2. Benkid
3. Jimmy
4. GA
5. Srar
6. Jericode
7. Benji
8. Ellis

If we keep it towards the more main stream movies we should be fine. 80's the oldest decade? We go by week with people giving us 3 movies and we should decide together which one is the one to watch we'll start with Benkid

Week 1: Patriot Games (Benkid) (12-01-2015 - 18-01-2015)

Week 2: Hard Boiled (Jimmy) (19-01-2015 - 01-02-2015)

Week 3: Leaving Las Vegas (GA) (02-02-2015 - 09-02-2015)

Week 4: Bernie (Srar) (10-02-2015 - 23-02-2015)

Week 5: Fargo (Benji) (24-02-2015 - 03-03-2015)

Week 6: ??? (Ellis) (04-03-2015 - ???)

I'll give it another go. I think we need to broaden the selection process though; last time (if I remember rightly) we based each week off actors and directors, and I hadn't even heard of half of the ones that got chosen. I gave up by week three purely because nobody picked choices that I knew well enough :P

I'm not saying we can't do it that way again, but I think a few theme/genre based selections would allow more accessible choices. Or maybe just moderate and choose a few more modern actors/directors as well. There were three weeks out of seven last time where all the chosen films were pre-1960. Those films are older than my dad :P

I was a little confused about that, though, we all voted on how we were going to choose the movies and the majority chose actors and directors.

Also I'm pretty sure the whole point of the film club was to experience something new, but people simply wanted to watch something they knew, which again was weird to me.

Is that a bad thing? 30's to 50's had some of the best movies I've ever watched.

That's you. That stuff isn't exactly accessible to everyone. And experiencing something new doesn't have to mean it's old and obscure either

Like I said, I'm not saying we can't do it that way, I'm just suggesting that it isn't done every week.

Adversely limiting it directors everyone knows really well could become a bit dull, I think some sort of balance would work. And also I think genre stuff could be problematic cos it's too open and Everyone could watch different films and then there's no discussion
