:crying:

Oddly, posting this video seems both the most natural thing in the world...and at the same time, feels really inappropriate.

I don't really understand why, so I'm just going to post it and get a little emotional watching it.

I think what makes it shocking/disorienting is that by and large the main TOS cast has lasted so long. It's 2015 and until today, all but two of them were still out there. There are some figures out there that have basically existed as long as what we'd consider geek culture has, and Nimoy (along with Shatner, Takei, Nichols, and Koenig) was one of them.

Truly a legend in front of and behind the camera. When you think of Star Trek, Spock is usually the first one that comes to mind. Also a part of not one, but two memorable Simpsons episodes. He will be missed....unless William Shatner can find a way to bring him back. :(

It sucks that he's gone. Of course, this is a fate all of us have to deal with one day, and of course Nimoy was 83. However, the man, or rather the character he played, had a strong influence on me. Spock in a way was Star Trek, at least with the original series and the first six films were concerned. He was a character that I watched and loved, and after that, it was always awesome to see Leonard Nimoy show up.

He was there in Civilization IV, letting us know about whatever goody showed up, he was there after Star Trek, narrating Nova, and he lent himself to Star Trek Online, providing an excellent narration. Although I can't blame him for wanting to get out of Spock's shadow, he later embraced it.

He was one of the greatest pop culture icons in history. He'll be missed greatly.

And since Star Trek is so easy:

This news hit me so fucking hard right at the start of my work shift. I had Star Trek on the brain all day strangely enough and recalled that Takei mentioned Nimoy had been hospitalized, so I was a little worried and oh man what a whirlwind of emotions. I expected him to live forever.

My friends and I are meeting for dinner and hanging out tomorrow and I think it's only fitting if we watch Wrath of Khan at some point.

And by god we better watch the Futurama episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before"

I honestly wish there was something I could say that could sum up how sad I am that Nimoy is gone. As a kid, watching the various Star Trek series is one of my fondest memories with my dad. Even to this day, sci-fi is the main thing we have in common. Nimoy's portrayal of Spock was something that I always loved, and speaking with maybe some level of retrospection, I'd guess it was probably because like a lot of Star Trek fans, I wasn't exactly the most popular guy in school, and Spock's position as something of an outsider was something that spoke to me and numerous others. His appearances in stuff like Fringe, The Simpsons, and Civ only furthered my love for the man.

He'll never read it, but for myself, I just want to say thanks to him. He brought a boy and his father together, and gave a young kid someone to look up to when it felt like he was alone.

This is probably one of the first celebrity deaths I've been sad about. My dad is a Star Trek fan and my parents named me Kirk. They say the two aren't related, but I never believed that. So growing up, watching Star Trek was just a thing. I grew up watching TOS reruns. I remember watching TAS. We watched TNG while having dinner. So after hearing that Leonard Nimoy passed away, I felt different then I did when someone like Robin Williams or someone passed away

Leonard Nimoy was one of my favorite actors, period. Not just for Star Trek, but also for Mission: Impossible and various guest roles, and hosting the original In Search Of...

Something cool: Yesterday in Star Trek Online, over 1,000 players went to Vulcan on their own just to have a moment to pay respects to Nimoy. The developers have already said that they plan to add an in-game memorial to him when they do maintenance on March 5th. But they're keeping what that memorial will be a secret. (Nimoy narrates some parts of the game, including the opening movie, as Spock)
