Here are some good ones I've listened to lately. (All available on Spotify)

SIN-atra, a heavy metal tribute to Frank Sinatra

This one features a 'house band' (with Billy Sheehan and others) and various guest vocalists, including Dee Snider, Tim Ripper Owens, Joey Belladonna, Devin Townsend and others covering classic Sin-atra tunes. It's pretty cheesy, but it's a lot of fun

Highlight:

Jani Lane (Of Warrant) sings 'That's Life'

Harder and Heavier: 60's British Invasion Goes Metal

I absolutely love this one. 60's British rock tracks covered by all star supergroups. Dee Snider, Vinny Apice, Frankie Banalie, John 5, Tracii Guns, Rudy Sarzo and loads more.

Highlight:

Gregg Bisonette (Of David Lee Roth), Scott Ian (Of Anthrax) and LEMMY (You know who he is) cover Twist and Shout

Loud Rocks

Sorry about the awful cover art on this one, no idea who thought that was a good idea. This one is collaborations between metal bands and rap groups. It got a bad rap on allmusic, but I really like it. It's got a fantastic lineup. Static-X, Dead Prez, Everlast, Mobb Deep, Tom Morello, Chad Smith, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Xzibit, and loads more.

Highlight: System of a Down & Wu-Tang Clan covering 'Shame on a Nigga'

Judgement Night Original Soundtrack

This one is the soundtrack to a movie I've never even heard of, but it's the same deal as above. Metal Bands and Rap Groups collaborate on either original tracks or covers. Features House of Pain, Onyx, Run DMC, Pearl Jam, Slayer, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Cypress Hill, Faith No More, others.

Highlight: Slayer and Ice-T do a medley of Exploited covers. So weird.

Twisted Forever – A Tribute to the Legendary Twisted Sister

Mostly rock bands covering Twisted Sister tracks, although for some reason Chuck D is in there? I don't know either. I really like this one. Twisted Sister had so many great tunes back in the day, it's nice to hear some fresh takes. Featuring Anthrax, Overkill, Joan Jett, Nashville Pussy, Fu Manchu, Sevendust, Cradle of Filth.

Highlight:

Motorhead doing Shoot Em Down. (Lemmy covering stuff will always be my highlight)

Humanary Stew: A Tribute To Alice Cooper

Another banging all star lineup, this time covering the king of shock rock, Alice Cooper. This one' got Dave Mustaine, Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Don Dokken and loads more for your approval.

Highlight: Roger Daltry (The Who) and Slash (You know who) covering No More Mr Nice Guy

I think that's enough for now.

What about you guys? You got any of these kind of things to recommend. They're helping me cope at work at the moment.

My story related to this involves an album called '¡Policia!' which is covers of songs by The Police, notably involving Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack and then a bunch of people I've never really heard of. This is only of significance to me because, well, let's just say this album was supplied to me by Dragsy, but half the songs are at a normal volume and the other half is turned to 11. So, if I'm not careful, I risk going deaf everytime I listen to it so thanks for that. I suppose it makes things more exciting.

The Punk Goes series is an interesting mix, they have done compilations on Metal, Pop, Acoustic, 80's, 90's, Classic Rock and Christmas. To me the only downside is the occasional band who just start screaming.

One of my favorites not part of the series but sort of related is the Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show which I came across looking for stuff by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes

My go-to "Various Artists" album is always Rise Above: 24 Black Flag Songs To Benefit The West Memphis Three. It's all Black Flag covers, but it has a cast like Ice-T (covering "Police Story"), Lemmy doing Saint Vitus' "Thirsty & Miserable" (because of course), Chuck D and Henry Rollins covering "Rise Above", and Tom Araya (of Slayer) covering "Revenge".

You can find the full album on iTunes or on YouTube. It's all worth a listen.

I remember Kerrang's tribute to Master of Puppets being pretty good, partiocularly Trivium's cover of the title track and Machine Head's Battery cover.

I decided to go relisten to this album and as I did, I realised that Kerrang also did an American Idiot one which from what I listened to was mostly horrible but they also did a Nevermind one and it's pretty good so far, I'm up to Polly and there hasn't been a bad cover yet

Judgement Night is a so-so movie, but the soundtrack is seriously awesome. Me and some friends found it years ago when one of the tracks, Fallin by De La Soul and Teenage Fanclub, was on a BMX vhs we had. Another really good song off it is Dinosaur Jr with Del The Funkee Homosapien

and Cypress Hill with Pearl Jam

I remember Judgement Night. I don't remember much about it, other than the four dudes go to a boxing match, or try to but end up in trying not to get murdered by a drug kingpin. Emilio Esteves is the star, and Dennis Leary is the bad guy.

Anyway, I used to have a ton of compilations. Technically, I still do but they are on my Ipod with a dead battery. Some of my favorites were...

Eat My Angel Dust - Compilation of all the great music from sleazy 60s biker flicks. Headlined by Davie Allan.

Oi! The French Connection - Basically a bunch of French punk, great stuff on it.

Nuggets - We all know the Nuggets compilations, there are hundreds out there. Basically it's all the garage and psychedelic rock from the 60s you can handle. It branched off into regions, countries (seriously, find Turkish Nuggets, or Portuguese Nuggets, hidden gems), and other things.

They did Metallica's Black Album too, and are apparently doing another one soon, but I'm not sure who.

Kerrang did an Iron Maiden one as well. They also had High Voltage and Higher Voltage which I still have. They have covers like BFMV - Crazy Train, Atreyu - You Give Love A Bad Name, Fightstar - Breaking The Law, FFAF - The Boys are Back in Town, and Lostprophet - Davidian (awkward)

I've got an NME Cure tribute CD that's really good. Get Cape Wear Cape Fly do a really breezy laid back Without You, Futureheads pretty much do to Love Cats what they did to Hounds of Love, plus there's an even gothier Lullaby by Editors, British Sea Power mucking about with A Forest, and Marmaduke Duke doing Friday I'm In Love. I'm gonna have to dig it out, it's ace.
