My personal opinons on some voice acting.

You might already know this if you pay attention to some of the stuff I post but I really love voice work. I love listening to someone try and give a character a perfect voice or trying to get someone's personality and feelings across with nothing but sound. I came across these videos the other night that compare voices given to famous characters over the years and as I was listening to them I started forming opinions on them and felt like I wanted to grade them. I decided to do a */5 ranking for each voice and if I had an opinion that I needed to put in words then I'd write it out with the grade. I was going to post to Reddit but I've seen how opinion based fun posts just get downvoted to oblivion so I figured I'd post here instead so maybe I might get one or two other people voicing(HA!) their opinion on some of these.

I'll start with a big one that lacks a voice when I read him.

Captain America

Brian Bloom3/5 Not the best but better than most

Tom Kenny4/5 Good for what it is for. It reminds me of an old CN Cartoon-cartoon voice.

Cal Dodd 2/5 Only reason it isn't a 1 is because I like how authoritative he sounds.

Adrian Pasadar 1/5 Good work but doest fit cap one single bit. Too creepy.Sounds like Wolverine

David Hayter2/5

Dan Chameroy2/5

Daren Norris1/5 Bad work.

Justin Gross4/5 Good for a young cap.

Trev Broudy 3/5

David Kaye 3/5

Arthur pierce 2/5 Of the time but I've heard better

George DiCenzo 1/5

Lawrence Bayne 1/5

Sandy Becker 3/5 of the time but actually good

Robin Atkin Downes 2/5 It's good work but I don't buy it as Cap.

Roger Craig Smith 4/5 Silly lines but I find it to be the best fitting

Jeffrey Hedquist 1/5 Ew, doesn't fit. Too small and nerdy sounding.

Chris Evans 3/5 Better than most but still not a perfect fit on voice alone.

This one has a little to do with effects on the voice instead of just the casting.

Venom

Hank Azaria 4/5 I love the duel voice and this would be my favorite if it wasn't for another.

Road Wilson 1/5 It sounds as if they didn't even try for a fit. They just grabbed a guy.

Brian Drummond 5/5 I love it, I read Venom in this one. Duel voiced and monsterous

Daran Norris 3/5

Jason Bryden 2/5

Authur Burghardt 2/5

Steve Blum 1/5 I don't buy that voice coming out of a hulking character like Venom.

Topher Grace 1/5 Ugh, ugh, ugh. Not even the duel voice saves this.

Quinton flynn 3/5 Little too Cobra Commander

Keith Szarabajka 3/5

Ben Diskin 2/5 The duel voice is great again. I think the main voice is too small.

Chopper Bernet 1/5 It just doesn't sound Venom-y

Travis Willingham NA-Didn't hear enough

roger Craig Smith 3/5

Matt Lanter1/5

Danny Trejo2/5 I love Danny, just not as Venom. He'd make a nice Bane, though.

Dee Baker 3/5

David Boat 4/5 This could be a 5 if they did the duel voice thing.

Next up is one of my top two heroes. Oddly I don't think I've ever heard a perfect voice for him. I don't hear one for him in my head when I read him either.

Spider-Man

Paul Soles 1/5 Of the time but still completely ill-fitting.

Ted Schwartz 2/5 Pretty much the same as above but slightly better

Dan Gilvezan 2/5

Chris Barnes 4/5 The closest thing to a perfect adult Peter

Rino Romano 3/5

Tobey Maguire 1/5 So emotionless.

NPH 2/5 Odd one because I think NPH would do good but I don't like the voice he put on.

Sean Marquette 4/5 great teenage Peter

Chris Gordon 2/5

Quinton Flynn 3/5

James Arnold Taylor 4/5 A even better young Peter.

Mike Vaughn 1/5 Ill fitting. Work wasn't horrible

Josh Keaton 4/5 Once again its good for a young Peter. It sounded like at the end it could be good for adult peter too.

Geoff Boothby3/5 Not bad but it doesn't stand out.

Ben Diskin 2/5 Nice delivery

Mikey Kelley/Yuri Lowenthal N/A I don't feel right judging either by those clips alone.

Drake Bell 3/5 Have I mentioned a voice being good for young Peter yet?

Sam Riegel 3/5

Tom Kenny 4/5 I really like this for adult Peter. Still not perfect.

Chris EdgerlyN/A Sound quality is too iffy

Now I'll end on an easy one. My favorite voice.
Harley Quinn

Arleen Sorkin 5/5 No-brainer here. She was the first and Harley was partially based on her so of course she's the perfect fit.

Hynden Walch 3/5 This is a weird one. I don't like her version in this video much but she did Assault On Arkham too and I thought she was great there.

Meghan Strange 2/5 Not bad but I'm not a huge fan.

Janyse Jaud 4/5 I really like it. It's a nice fit. It won't ever be "the" voice but it's fine work.

Laura Bailey 1/5 I love Laura, she voices one of my favorite anime characters but I don't like her one bit for Harley.

Tara Strong 5/5 The perfect replacement for Arleen. I use to not be able to even tell the difference like I can now and even now it's not super distinct.

I'll keep adding onto this thread with more as I go though the other videos like this.

1994 Spider-Man pretty much nailed all the voices I think. Probably rose-tinted glasses, but was still amazing! Venom, Carnage, Wilson Fisk, Vulture, Aunt May, Black Cat and Rhino were all spot on in my head.

What do you think about Trans Atlantic dialect used in the 20s, 30s, and 40s? I always wondered why people in old films sounded....different.

I use to not be able to watch or listen to anything that old because I thought the way people spoke sounded too fake. Listening to old radio broadcasts got me over the hump though. I still think that old broadcasts sound weird compared to newer stuff but it's not a killer thing.

I tend to look back at the shows I watched as a kid as having the perfect voices(Batman,X-Men, DBZ) but when I watch Spider-Man I don't feel as strongly for it's voices. It started the ball rolling on Venom but I think they improved it in Spider-Man Unlimited. Peter is the oddest part for me though. I love his voice and like I said I think it's the closest thing to perfect I've heard for him as an adult but I just feel like a better one is out there. I don't know why it's so hard to impress me with an adult Parker but so easy to get me on-board with a teenaged voice. One thing I think 94 Spider-Man did get perfect is this
