If you could re-experience any game for the first time again, what would it be?

Title says it all really. What game would you want to wipe your entire memory of and play again for the first time, experiencing all the nuances and story and mechanics for the first time again?

For me it's simple; Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. Both of them just tell such wonderfully crafted stories, and both of them sent shivers up my time the first time I played them. They're two of the few games that I've replayed at least three times each, a feat which is only shared by a couple of Final Fantasy games and everything about them is as close to perfect as it gets.

Mass Effect 2. I've played it like 10 times but I still enjoy it every time. The way you go around recruiting your team like a good heist movie is something I never get tired of. The team is so great too. I love them like real people and I have literally cried like a baby when they died.

All this applies to 3 too but the first game didn't age well

Heavy Rain. I remember I got it a few days earlier than everyone else because it was out in Japan first. Then I spoilered my way through it in the Heavy Rain thread on here and easily listed ten amazing moments of the game.

My experience would be very different now though with a daughter. I get REEEEEEEAAAAAALLLLLLLYYYY emotional when sad stuff happens to kids. I'd be even more invested in the game.

Got to pick a fairly long game... And a story-driven one. So many of the games I play these days are open-ended games (strategy games and such) that would just be a waste.

I don't really know which Final Fantasy I would pick if it were one of those. 7? 9? 10? Maybe not 10.

Then again, I was feeling nostalgic for the first Metal Gear Solid earlier today. I think right now I would go for that.

For me, it's a hard choice, but if pressed I'd choose Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Being (IMO the best ever) horror game the impact is lessened once you know what's going to happen and the best way to deal with it.

Other choices would be: Fallout 3, Pokemon, Heavy Rain, Far Cry 3, Any of the GTA/Saints Row games, Persona 3, and probably a few others I can't currently think of.

Oh man, do it. Play MGS again now. Me and a friend played through it a few months ago and we were both so surprised at just how well it's aged. Tremendous game and excellent choice.

It wouldn't work because games have developed so much. The Legend of Zelda blew my mind as a little kid. All of the games I'd played before were so simple and linear in comparison. It was a totally open world that was free to explore from the outset. I didn't get the same sense of openness until GTA III.

Goldeneye multiplayer and Perfect Dark were also lovely, but that's more because my whole family all used to play it together.

The original Metal Gear Solid for sure, it was my first experience of a game being more story than a game, and the stories are why I love games.

More recently, the entire Mass Effect trilogy, specifically the first and third games.

Also FFIX has got to be up there. I loved VII and VIII and IX had a somewhat 'magical' feel, it was just really special.

I don't play too many story-driven games, to be honest. Most of my backlog consist of Tony Hawk or WWE games. Fable 2, however, was a game that I quickly fell in love with the second I started playing and I'd love to re-experience that because I can barely even remember why at this point. If I could pick a second, it'd probably be GTA 5... I'm not sure, but I really enjoyed the story and it was heaps better than the story of GTA 4.
