Admin Lineker Posted May 27, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted May 27, 2015 Main points: It has been confirmed that there will be a fresh inquiry into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Corruption did, it has been stated during the news conference, 'extend to Fifa presidential campaigns'. Total of 47 charges dating back 24 years. Arrests come as Switzerland opens its own inquiry. Swiss federal prosecutors open criminal case. Defendants have surrendered $150m in illegal profits. US banks and wiring used in bribery. gunnar hendershow
Good, fuck FIFA. Surely we can get the IOC within the next 5 years too right? Come on Justice Department, I'm counting on you! Sadly, and what should be most important, is the slaves who are dying to build the Qatari World Cup venues will continue to die. Journalists are being arrested trying to expose it. That's the real scandal, a large-scale human rights violation, that is happening directly under FIFA's watch. And unfortunately it's hard to do anything about it, but at least we can get them on widespread corruption.
Admin Lineker Posted May 27, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted May 27, 2015 Six of the seven top Fifa officials arrested in Zurich as part of a twin corruption probe are challenging their extradition to the United States, the Swiss justice ministry said. This is going to drag on forever...

thatshortguy
If you're going to pull the David Caruso bit, at least have Caruso and The Who at the presser. Very intrigued to hear these wiretap conversations. I really have a hard time believing that this will change anything, but the fact they actually went after such a large organization is promising. thatshortguy
EDIT: And Sepp Blatter is not allowed to leave Switzerland until further notice. Now we're in the deep end. I really want to see what concrete stuff they have against ol' Seppsis.
Marcos
I still think the best thing UEFA can do just now is announce that all their members will boycott future World Cups/FIFA altogether until Blatter resigns. A football governing body without England, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy, France etc is not a very strong one, and the World Cups would suffer as well (obviously discounting Scotland from my first list as we never qualify anyway).

Rafael
I really wanted Havelange and Teixeira to get theirs too, but I'm happy with Marin. And Romario has called for an investigation on the Brazilian FA (CBF).

Admin Lineker Posted May 28, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted May 28, 2015 Unsurprisingly, Blatter and Valcke will not be appearing as scheduled at the Fifa medical conference today. Head under the parapet etc.
Benji
US Justice Department + FBI presser is happening live now. STOP CALLING IT SOCCER. If the yanks are the ones to finally sort out FIFA, I'm fine with calling it soccer forever, they'll have earned it.
Admin Lineker Posted May 28, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted May 28, 2015 Sepp Blatter denies responsibility. Obviously. But they carried on mostly as normal today, putting on shows with interpretive dance and everything. Lol. Also Putin has backed Blatter to serve a fifth term. Insert your own jokes here. Blatter has refused to step down.
TCO
Seriously, if this doesn't oust him then he's there until he's dead. Maybe longer.
Matt
Only way it'll oust him is if those that have been arrested already spill the beans on him.
TCO
If he was locked up, I legitimately think that the election would still be a close call. FIFA's reputation is in tatters and some of their biggest sponsors are implicated too. It boggles the mind that he'll still be president after tomorrow.
