AFC Wimbledon have been granted permission to return to Plough Lane and build a new stadium.

After a lengthy period of consultation with Merton Council, the Dons have been given permission to make the move from Kingsmeadow back to the area where Wimbledon played up until 1991.

AFC Wimbledon chief executive Erik Samuelson believes it is one of the most significant moments in their history, having formed in 2002 after Wimbledon relocated to Milton Keynes and were rebranded MK Dons.

“We are all absolutely delighted,” Samuelson told the club’s official website. “This has been a momentous day for our club and the most important event since we re-formed it 13 years ago..

“Following the sale of our former Plough Lane site and the decision by the FA to allow Wimbledon FC’s Football League place to be moved to Milton Keynes, our fans did something unprecedented in the football world - we decided to re-form the club, enter the football hierarchy at the lowest level and repeat what the old Wimbledon FC did with massive success, namely make our way up through the many leagues into the Football League.

“We started with nothing, no team, no stadium, no manager, not even a strip to wear.

“But what was different this time was that the club was formed by and remains owned by the fans, in other words we are firmly rooted in our community.

“We have never lost sight of that and so we have focused the majority of our community works on Merton because this is our home and we are delighted that we have been granted planning approval to return to Wimbledon.”

AFC Wimbledon’s stadium plan is for a 20,000-seater stadium with an initial capacity of 11,000.

The plans include the provision to build 602 residential units, along with retail and commercial space and a leisure club.

Sussex Police are to look into an alleged racist incident during Brighton’s game at Derby on Saturday.

The Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale reported on Twitter that one of his team-mates had been racially abused. He received a response from PC Darren Balkham, Sussex Police’s football intelligence and liaison officer for Brighton.

Stockdale wrote on his Twitter feed: “Disgusted that a derby fan today racially abused one of our players... No place in the world should any person have to take that! #kickitout”

PC Balkham responded to Stockdale’s post, saying: “I am aware of this incident having been contacted post match. I will liaise with colleagues from Derbyshire police.” Stockdale replied thanking PC Balkham.

Derby have said they are taking the allegation seriously and will also refer the claim to the police. “Derby County are concerned to hear about allegations of racial abuse by a supporter directed at a Brighton & Hove Albion player during Saturday’s game at the iPro Stadium,” read a club statement released on Sunday. “We take these matters seriously and will be referring the allegations to the police. Abuse of any kind has no place in the culture of Derby County Football Club.”

The match finished in a 2-2 draw, with Chris Martin’s late penalty earning Derby a point.

For those who didn't see my Facebook rant, when Crewe scored to go 2-1 up against us in the 90th minute yesterday, my dad and mate who I was with decided enough was enough in the freezing torrential rain so made for the exit. I went with them since it was my lift home, even though I pretty much ALWAYS refuse to leave before the final whistle no matter what.

So of course, walking away from the ground a big cheer goes up, and then another one. We won 3-2 with goals in the 93rd and 95th minutes, first time that's ever happened to the Rovers in all the time I've supported them, and I missed the whole bloody thing. Fuming.

I think I'm still mad about it, what are the odds? We never leave early! I once sat til full time in an almost empty stadium when we lost 6-0 at home to Ipswich on a Tuesday night, and argued with my mate about leaving away at Brighton when we lost 1-0 to a 97th minute goal, since we were on the supporter's coach anyway and wouldn't be getting anywhere by leaving early.

I just can't leave a game early. I just don't understand it. I'll be there supporting my team till the bitter end no matter how disappointing it may be.

Plus why pay money for something and leave before its finished.
